The solution can be improved by speeding up the load time when pulling up information.
View full review »I would really like to see a more robust timekeeping solution in Workday. Currently, most organizations are using Kronos for timekeeping and Workday for HR data. They then integrate Workday with Dimensions to manage time-related activities and payroll processing.
I think if Workday could enhance its timekeeping solution to match the functionality and flexibility of Dimensions, it would be a really good product.
Another area for improvement is payroll. Workday payroll is not very extensively used in the North American market, but it is more widely used in Europe. There is a lot of complexity in payroll processing in North America, but I think there is still a lot of room for improvement in Workday.
In the next release, I would like to see pre-built or predefined connectors for Dimensions and other applications. Currently, we have to use Boomi or another middleware application to integrate Workday with these systems.
I think pre-built connectors would be very helpful, especially for Dimensions, which we do not currently have a connector for.
It's challenging due to the frequent changes, but I believe most of these changes align with our company's evolving needs. Our organization is constantly changing, requiring new fields and information. Sometimes, when you access the platform, you'll encounter new mandatory fields. I'm confident that these changes are driven by our company's requests, rather than being under the control of the vendor provider. My only suggestion might be to include a brief description of any new fields we introduce, making it easier for people to use them. Perhaps this is something they can consider implementing. They can also include training whenever there is a new update.

The solution has some features missing when you put them in the test studio or Confluence Studio. I would like the tool’s coding to be easier to understand and automated. Most of the coding these days is automated. Any query given can pull the answer directly which can make the solution easier to understand.
View full review »I'm not sure they have added this feature yet, but there should be a cellphone version, so we do not need to do it on a laptop. I'd like to log in on a cellphone and have the same features. I'm not sure if that is already available or if it's on the roadmap, but that would be a great feature.

The user interface could be modernized somehow.
Errors are not very clear in some cases. I've been experiencing some issues within the application that the error messages or what I needed to do were not very easily clear to me. I needed to contact an expert in order to facilitate the problem resolution.
Technical support could be better.
View full review »Workday could improve by adding other features, such as messaging to candidates and other recruiting capabilities that other new-age solutions have.
View full review »It's tough to pinpoint specific areas that need improvement because Workday is constantly evolving and listening to customer feedback. They have a system in place called brainstorming, where customers can raise concerns and suggestions for improvement. Through this process, Workday is able to gather feedback from multiple customers and develop solutions to address issues. If there are any areas that we find challenging or would like to see enhanced, we raise a brainstorm and work with other customers to bring it to Workday's attention.
Workday has recently made some enhancements that have helped in various areas. One thing that comes to mind is the ability to customize branding and imagery. Currently, you can brand the platform with your company logo, but when it comes to specific features or solutions, they still retain control over the images used. It would be great if we had the ability to alter those images, as different countries may have different preferences for imagery. We should have more control over the imagery used within the platform.
One potential feature that could be added is the ability to streamline business processes through quick tips and guided tours. This would allow for a smoother and more guided experience for colleagues as they navigate through different processes and steps. It would be similar to a guidance system or a step-by-step tutorial that could be added after the business process to guide users through it.

Workday does have a community site where people can go on and off for suggestions. They call them Brainstorms, and you can vote them up. That is something that they do well, but oftentimes, they seem to be racing to deliver something based on what a competitor is delivering. For example, if they hear SAP has this new functionality and learning that's going to be coming out, they prioritize there, which makes sense, but unfortunately, some of these Brainstorms may get neglected where the product might not be improved as quickly or as needed for the customers. You might be waiting for a year or two to get a feature that you'd like released. They should pay more attention to customer feedback and ensure that customer feedback is an essential part of their product roadmap.

There were a lot of issues. There were consistency or accuracy issues with the data we had, and every time we had to pull reports in Workday, it was difficult.

The expenses and reimbursements module could be improved. Creating expense reports is time-consuming and inefficient compared to other expense solutions.
Workday could also be easier to use.
View full review »It is very unique as compared to other tools in terms of the employee master data and how it is organized. That's why sometimes the information needs to sit in two different systems because, in Workday, it is organized differently. This issue is not related to benefits. It is more or so related to how you categorize employees. I don't think this is a problem that could be solved. Workday is aware of this. It is one of those kinds of situations that you just got to live with.

View full review »It's great for operational / detailed reporting and some low-level analytics, but for heavy-duty analysis against large data sets, I find it's a bit lacking. For instance, the indexed data sources only work when using non-calculated fields. Most clients have a TON of calculated fields used for reporting purposes, so I find this severely limits the appeal of such data sources. Non-indexed data sources don't perform very well against large datasets compared to a data warehouse / star schema / OLAP cube.

I would be happy if it was faster. Currently, when I try to navigate within the solution itself, it is a bit slow in terms of the page load time. When I click on something, it usually takes time to load. When you click on different icons or areas on the website, it is slow. Even when you navigate between different models, it is a bit slow. I would like to see a bit faster performance and a better user experience.

In essence, I think that all areas of the product have the potential to improve even if they are good already. At the same time, from one release to the next, Workday makes the effort to improve the product. The company has two updates per year. The product is always getting better with each release. If there was anything specific that I thought of that I would improve, it would be the Benefits domain and the advanced computations.
What clients seem to respond to as being in need of attention and want to see developed for the program is apparent in the community cooperation. Workday uses the community to brainstorm and collect feedback and drive innovation. To work with brainstorming, you go to the community and you create a brainstorm (propose an idea and enhancement), and then people in the community vote on it. You get votes and rankings based on response to your ideas. I think Workday is quite proud of the large percentage (40% or so) of what comes out in their releases comes from brainstorms and client feedback. There are tons of things that people propose and say they want in the product in upcoming releases. Workday does this for the customers and suggestions do get put into the product. I've never heard of something like this being done with any other product.
There are other enhancements that go untended that have been languishing for years. I am interested in one feature now and the development just is not spending the time to fix it. They are good but they are not perfect. You can see that they are trying to meet client needs. Using that as an example, you can only put a certain task in certain BPs. Additional data can only be an action item in a few business processes like Hire, Change Job, etcetera. The idea is that users would like the option for the additional data to be available in other areas.
Another example is the default field in Questionnaires. People have asked that the field not be required as a default. Little things like this you can workaround, but it's the little things that are kind of nice. On the other hand, little things get less attention in brainstorming so they get less attention in development.

The cost of Workday is certainly not inexpensive. It's very pricey.
If your data is not very clean, it does make for a bit of a mess. It was part of the reason why we had to bring Epic in.
I have found, within the hospital experience, that Workday's overall contribution to making healthcare better was lacking. Without a doubt, COVID has forced companies to be more responsive to the needs, and so forth, within a hospital system, healthcare, whatever. And as such, within a matter of months, the technology will exist that all we'll need is a smartphone to do enterprise-level type of work. You will no longer need a tablet, for example. You will no longer need a PC as official intelligence would have taken over.
They're a leader in the market. I just wish the price would come down and they will continue to work really hard on making AI what it could be for them.
They've got to continue to grow, as they can get behind very, very quickly in the AI space. As quickly as AI is able to interpret what you now want as fast as the market's going to change. They need to stay on top of it, or they will get left behind.

They don't offer any backend database access. This is one limitation that I found in this product. Workday hasn't opened up about what kind of database they are into, which can make it easy for the technical team to emulate issues. It would be good if they can offer backend access to the technical team.
It would be helpful if they can also provide a Troubleshooting Guide that we can use to troubleshoot issues. When we have an issue, there are very limited resources to refer to.

Something that can be improved, is legislation within a country. There's something about paying dues in the country for legal requirement that's provided by SAP success factors, but it's not the case with Workday.
Another thing that can be better, is the flexibility of the screens. Sometimes I find it hard to customize the screen and that is quite frustrating. But that's actually one of their selling points as well. So they are pretty good, I have to say.
Setting up reports can be a bit tricky, and I've also noticed that integration with payroll can sometimes be an issue with Workday.
View full review »For reporting, Workday only allows users to select which table to join, and it defaults everything. It should allow users to specify the type of join table (inner join / left join / right join / fields to join).
The Payroll module is not usable for Asian countries. It is not possible to customize it the way we want. We need to use another payroll system and build payroll integration.
Payroll integration is terrible. It has a lot of limitations.

Analytical tools have needed improvement. Workday has just released Prism Analytics, to replace the current analytical tools, so it’s in the early stages. Workday has great reporting capabilities today, but if we don’t have a fully consolidated system we need the ability to marry that external data with the Workday data to perform analytics. Prism will enable this to occur.
There is too much of a one-at-a-time concept in the workflow. The system is designed with the object model in mind, which is brilliant. Transition from one thing to the next is a never-ending relationship experience. As a leader, however, there are many times when merit and performance are not in isolation and one employee at a time. More thought into seeing the department or departments as a whole would be really valuable.
We use Workday as the source of all employee data. This means that via integrations built in-house, if as a new employee you are onboarded with Workday, you have accounts everywhere else. As a manager, I give it a 3/5. Lots of great data, but since I don't do this all the time, I find it to be not all that intuitive. Much of this may be based on how workflows have been implemented, but it nonetheless leaves much to be desired. Also, while the browser is powerful, the mobile app is so limited it is mostly useless. Lastly, as a power user I would give this a 2/5. So much can be done with the tools, but we constantly run into roadblocks that can only be pushed through with a hard to find, incredibly expensive contract resource. This is the only SaaS product I can think of that we have this experience with.

The implementation could have gone a little smoother. Typically, they give you credits for hours to use, and you go through them quickly. Then, they charge you per hour on calls after that, so I had to negotiate it because I implemented it myself and did not use an outside party.
With respect to technical support, there is some room for improvement.

I cannot really use Workday, because they don't have worker payroll in the product. We have to solve our payroll. I hope one day they will be able to have their own localized standard payrolls for all countries.
In terms of reporting, we have to rely on a consultant to do the report customization. If we have an employee who is working for two or three countries, we don't have a simple global employee number to keep track of them, because then you have to use a separate employee number for different countries.
The most important thing is to be able to do your own reporting, which it can't do. We rely so much on our consultant to customize reports for us. Also, if you want to have authorization of certain roles, there is a lot of inflexibility in how the authorizations can be set.
For time management, it does not have a calendar generator. For example, if you want to have a shift calendar for an entire year, you need to push the entire year's calendar into the system instead of being able to generate it using a time management pattern.

The security console should be made less complex. This way, if anybody wants access to a particular business object then they can simply send a request to access the corresponding parts. Once the administrator sees the request, they can set permissions to specify whether the user has access or not.

The UI, UX (user experience) is very bad. It is not very interactive. As a user, when they look at Workday, they find it difficult to navigate. If they have any queries, I am not able to launch a case. I have to find a solution to my issues.
For an IT user, it might look like a large platform but from an end-user perspective or someone new to IT, they will find it to be very difficult.
