What were the top 3 differentiators that most influenced your company's decision to purchase HPE 3PAR? Based on your actual experience with the product, did it meet those expectations?
1. Low latency (Latency dropped 96% compared to legacy EMC array and is still that low with full production load)
2. Scalability (Scale Up and Scale Out supported by the 3Par all-flash arrays, compute and storage capacity included for scaling options)
3. Lower TCO through advanced data features (dedupe, compression, thin provisioning, zero detect, etc., currently >4:1 data reduction even with large amounts of non-dedupe friendly files a staggering drop in cost per TB and less expensive per TB than a legacy EMC VNX)
1) Enterprise-Class features at the price of mid-market arrays – most of the features available on 3PAR today are features that are usually available only on the high-end (enterprise/mainframe-class) storage most especially on the availability part.
2) Ability to handle high-performance workloads – certain 3PAR models can go from 2 to 8 controllers and is able to handle mixed workloads of random and sequential. Multiple controllers have high impact on sequential workloads which not all arrays of the same class are able to provide the same.
3) Ability to easily move data around within 3PAR and other 3PARs – there are a number of features that let you move data around – different tiers, different raid, different 3PAR arrays and these can be done online.
Chose 3PAR for cost and ease of migration.
Looked at EMC, HPE and Pure, and having run a POC on all three all performed well. Cost difference was considerable between the three with EMC the lowest but HPE not far behind with a simpler solution. Pure priced themselves out of the race and gave us less bang for buck storage wise although they do have a very compelling story with their hardware refresh and seem to have more sophistication in their encryption and management tools. At the end of the day - any of the big all flash will do the job and all have a good support behind them.

2) Awesome phone home - any support issue -> HP 3PAR support already had logs and could help diagnose issues, sometimes even before it became a big issue.
3) true space efficiencies both thin provisioning and snapshots
Since we are a non-profit, cost always has to be number one. We have to get the best we can get for the minimal price. We were also a long time HP customer, so staying with HP made senses at that time. We did look outside of HP at Compellent and EMC. And were upgrading from a EVA 4100 that was way past its prime. The 3Par checked all of our boxes as far as cost. We were familiar with HP support and had a good relationship with the tech in the area. And the performance was really good. The 3Par had the ability to move "chunklets" of data that had high I/O to faster drives and migrate back when the I/O slowed down.
Configuration options, building the array to serve it's intended purpose
Drive types, Nearline - Fast Class and SSD as Tiered Service levels
within a single LUN as needed.
Ease of use, after installed and configured. Presentation to hosts and
the LUNS to the hosts was pretty simple to use for an end-user.
These are some of the key items I like the best about this array.
Deduplication on asic without to lose performances
Possibility to take out of a 3PAR system a backup of a LUN that is on-line. This option is possible if use all HPE tecnology like "StoreOnce" that is a VTL of HPE
My company sells 3PAR we haven’t purchased one for our use.
That being said, 3PAR has been HPE’s most successful storage in their history. The main reasons my customer purchase 3par are:
1. Massive scalability including active-active nodes(up to 8), broad ecosystem support and multi-tenant capabilities
2. All-inclusive, robust SW feature set
3. High availability features such as cage-ha, peer persistence, etc.
I have sold over 100 3PAR and have yet to receive one complaint or have an issue with the 3PAR. They are rock solid.
We had a great analysis task between 3 options.

Finally, we decided on EMC VMAX250FX, the project not only contemplated a change of storage, it is much more, the project is a great renovation of HW in our DC and only one support provider for all infrastructure.

Technically as you know, comparing the All-Flash model of the 3 options are currently very competitive, knowing that VMAX250FX compress but not does deduplication unlike Pure and 3PAR, but the level of service support offered and the economic value has been decisive to choose Dell/EMC option.
