About me

I’m the Technical Lead and Team Leader of the Retail Assist technical services team, based near Witney in Oxfordshire. Our approach is one of openness, honesty, and demonstrating passion in everything we do; I’ve been part of Retail Assist for 4 years and have over 20 year’s technical experience.

Before joining Retail Assist my working life began as a Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy. Following an initial one year of military and technical training, I joined the frigate HMS Brazen for active service during the first Gulf War. In the following years, I was deployed on the guided missile destroyers HMS Gloucester and HMS Glasgow, travelling to over 50 countries while operating and supporting weapons systems. On completion of my military service I re-trained for a career in IT; after a year at the Lincoln Financial Group, I joined the IT Infrastructure Team at Oasis Stores Ltd. Now 14 years later, I have deployed and supported the IT systems and infrastructure for many of the high Streets leading fashion Brands, working with Mosaic Fashions Ltd, Aurora Fashions Ltd and currently Retail Assist.

The working environment at Retail Assist is fast paced and proactive, preferring prevention to cure, being dependable and ready to take the initiative, as well as always being ready to help; this company mentality suits my personal ethics and working style.

I'm a VMware certified professional (VCP5-DCV) and hold other certifications including Hyper-V Virtualization (Microsoft Specialist), Cloud computing (VCA-Cloud), Workforce Mobility (VCA-WM) as well as the ITIL v3 (2011) Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management.

I’m always interested in hearing from former friends or colleagues so feel free to contact me if you’d like to connect. (Email: richard.haverly@btinternet.com)
