As Chris and Karthik have mentioned, step by step. Do you have enough hosts to handle your VM's while one host is updating? Also, you have to update firmware for each of the hosts. I did a small environment (5 hosts, 140 VM's) and used the Dell Enterprise iDRAC to get…

About me

Ms. Phillips brings over 20 years cumulative experience in multiple IT disciplines ranging from IT security, virtualization, network design, project management, Voice over IP, eDiscovery, forensic analysis and LAN/WAN design.

In addition, Ms. Phillips is an evangelist of resilient and redundant network design, based on the capabilities of various organizations. Continuity of Operations (COOP) has come a long way in the past decade, and leveraging public and private cloud environments have become a staple of modern network design.

Over the past five years, Ms. Phillips has designed and implemented VMWare deployments for small and medium business in the Washington, DC metro area. The largest deployment has grown from a three host environment into a seven host environment split between the main office and a SOC-2 compliant data center. This particular environment supports 140 virtual servers (mixed OS), with replication of critical virtual servers between locations. Network security monitoring is provided by AlienVault OSSIM, NetFlow analysis and firewall log analysis tools.
