I’ve tested EMC XtremeIO two years ago, I don’t know Hitachi, but there are two things that push me to buy a Pure Storage, first is an EMC low performance with words more than 16 Kbits and the second is the design, I don’t want a big UPS in the middle of the more…

I agree with you about the power of SAN backup, we also have used workflow to backup Enterprise Vault. Another interesting feature that we use is the S3 library to vault on cloud the deduplicated backup.

I'm an happy Pure User, and after 2 non-disruptive upgrade I agree with this comment, the bad side is the reporting (used space, performance etc.)

About me

December 2004 to present
Chief Information, Facility, Purchasing and Services Manager - Roma Metropolitane S.r.l.
Since 2004 as System Engineer and afterward as Chief Information Officer, reporting directly to CEO, I was committed for the company’s Start-Up, from design to deployment of the main site and data center to the software selection of the Information System. I’ve projected and implemented Network Services (multi-site domain on Windows servers, Exchange mail server with Enterprise Vault for all users, Internet connection), LAN (core 1/10/40 Gbit and distribution 1/10 Gbit PoE), WAN with VPN (Juniper, Cisco and Stonesoft) to the construction sites implementing a deduplication infrastructure (Riverbed) to optimize connectivity cost and bandwidth.
I've drawn up Back-Up and Disaster Recovery solutions with vCenter and storage replication using Cloud Services to vault data (NetApp, Simpana, S3 and deduplication appliance Datadomain).
The information system is currently based on ERP and BI SAP ( FI, CO, MM, PS, BW, SEM, TR and HR), document management systems Sharepoint, IBM FileNet, Smarteam (to support project management) and STR Vision/Planet (BIM).
With the storage consolidation and server virtualization project (VMware, NetApp and 3Par) I’ve achieved a remarkable infrastructure, power and cooling savings.
The implementation of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VMware View) in conjunction with application virtualization and software distribution systems has allowed me to reach targets as rapid client deployment and information security.
I’ve extended the VDI project to include 2D drawing, 3D modeling and rendering workstations with the adoption of NVIDIA GRID video cards and using an all-flash array storage, it allowed to extend the benefits of virtualization to all workstations.
Since 2013, as Chief Information, Facility, Purchasing and Services Manager, I have been leading a 14 person team divided between five Organizational Units:
• Information Technologies: projecting, deploying and managing the company information technology of all sites (as described before);
• Purchasing: suppliers selection and management, market survey and purchasing, suppliers and inventory assets registers updates, service agreements;
• Facilities: acquisition, electronic distribution and mail archiving, mobile and PBX telecomunication, internet data connection, all the essential services such as reception, security, maintenance, cleaning, catering, waste disposal and recycling;
• Technical Archive: manage and archive project documentation, searching document in local and remote archives, scanning project of old paper archives;
• Technical Service: main site maintenance, including HVAC, Electrical, Fire Alarms and FFE.
The management of all investments and operating costs of the company, gave me the opportunity to face a lot of challenges in all areas for the spending review, the adoption of innovative solutions has allowed me, with targeted investments, to bring down the operating costs.
Among the various projects, I have achieved a 50% optimization with fixed telephony services, mobile, PBX and data connectivity, concentrating all services on a single operator and migrating to a VoIP architecture (Shoretel), with a two years ROI for PBX, phones and switch.
With the adoption of IT tools such as digital signature and workflow authorization and the consequent "digitization" of company procedures, I was able to optimize processes with a considerable saving not only on the execution time but also on stationery and print services costs.

I was responsible of planning and implementing the internal LAN and network services on Microsoft Server and Linux. I’ve planned and deployed Active Directory in a NT 4 domains consolidation project on Windows 2000 server.
As member for the CCTV city control project, parking projects and controlled traffic zone project (distribuited OCR), managing sanctions system’s Oracle database for Rome police department, I’ve implemented network monitoring with HP Open View and graphic environmental impact studies with 3D modeling and rendering software.
As teacher I’ve taught Windows and Office courses and developed internet/Intranet web site on HTML, ASP and Flash.
