Originally wrote and installed an Lotus Notes application in my home mission of UNTSO in Jerusalem. Eventually installed the application in 14 UN locations around the world.
Each mission was doing telephone personnel billing by hand. There was usually one staff member who spent most of their time each month setting up the bills, distributing them to the individual staff members, doing collection and then creating reports for the Finance section.
By setting up a personnel database and connecting it to the output of CDR out of an Errricson switch, was able to automate the system. It included
Generating the bills.
Routing them to the owners
Getting their electronic approval.
Routing the bill to their manager for approval.
Generating monthly reports for finance for automated collection.
There was also a module to reconcile old reports with payments.
In addition to writing the system, I trained staff on location, presented the system to high level management, maintained up-to-date documentation and provided support to all international missions from the office.
Might have written it in a different tool, certainly something that supported large amounts of raw data and could be accessed through the web.
