What do you think of CA Clarity PPM?

Hi All, If anyone is looking for a Project and Portfolio Management tool, then I highly recommend CA Clarity PPM. Of all the PPM tools we had tried, Clarity PPM (now called as CA PPM) is the most robust, multi-functional and reliable tool. The different modules in CA PPM include Resource Management, Project Management, Portfolio Management, Timesheet Management, Financial Management and Demand Management. The technical side of this tool asks from Clarity developers skills in the following areas: XML Open Gateway (XOG), GEL scripting and NSQL. The reporting platforms supported which can be integrated to this PPM tool are Jaspersoft and Business Objects. But CA has recently dropped Business Objects support from v14.2 version onwards and has only Jaspersoft now as the reporting tool.…

What is most valuable?

Deep Dive and Transaction Analysis Triage capability. The AppMap feature is very very helpful in visualizing. Also ACC is a huge help with agent maintenance/management… more»

How has it helped my organization?

We are introducing 10.1 in our dev environment and then prod down the road. APM is a new culture here so we are working with customers in getting them introduced to the… more»

What needs improvement?

User Experience is a BIG one. Integration of all of APM components into one swift deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you can get a SME to architect and install then definitely go that route vs the vendor itself. There are upside to having the vendor due to the fact that they have… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

There was no APM solution prior to the intro of APM. Thus, we are still in infancy from a culture perspective. They are still learning as we they go, the tool.

What other advice do I have?

It’s a great product and provides a lot of in-depth data. Focus and leverage this product as a deep dive one and have another layer above it (another high-level view… more»

What is most valuable?

* Root Cause Analysis. For example, I have an application in my environment and it suddenly it goes down. I then need to find out which team to consult and whose fault it is: coding, database, network, or something else. No one is ready to… more»

How has it helped my organization?

It reduces the downtime of applications, and has, in fact, minimized it to approximately 5 percent, and possibly even less than that.

What needs improvement?

Automatic report generation needs work.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

I used logs to study applications' behaviour, but that requires a separate team to properly handle it. There was dependency on their workflow. Now, we don't require a separate team. Additionally, the CIO can see the reports on his mobile.

What other advice do I have?

You should only use a preferred partner of CA. Over the couple of years, since I first reviewed the product here, my rating of it hasn't changed. I still rate it at eight out of ten. I rated it eight because it is a good CEM experience but… more»

What is most valuable?

The ability to create models/diagrams at multiple levels (nest/embed them) helps in taking models from high-level business requirements and building them into detailed… more»

How has it helped my organization?

Using the test modeling approach helped * get early alignment on requirements * prevent design and implementation defects in earlier development phases if models were used… more»

What needs improvement?

Aligning models so they look clear and readable without having to move boxes around. Saving different subsets of test cases, use cases, etc., of a given diagram, for… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Recommendation is to go with concurrent licenses as oppose to seat license; this gives more flexibility.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We used another test modeling solution. ARD has better integration with automated test scripting and with test data management. We also switched to it because we were… more»

What other advice do I have?

It is important to ensure that people first understand modeling concepts and the organization's defined modeling best practices before jumping into tool implementation. It… more»

What is most valuable?

The combination of extract, mask, and load, along with synthetic data, is what is generally needed by any of our clients, and CA TDM has really good compatibility in both of these areas. CA is one of the few tool suites that has end-to-end… more»

How has it helped my organization?

If you take DevOps as an example, suppose development has happened and the binary code has been deployed to a certain server. To do continuous testing or continuous integration, you need the test data. CA TDM has a feature where it can… more»

What needs improvement?

There are multiple things which can be improved in CA TDM. It has a feature called TDM Portal, where testers can find test data by themselves, based on multiple models. They can reserve the data so that it belongs to one group or… more»

What other advice do I have?

There are, let's say, five market-standard tools you can choose from. If you choose CA TDM, you need to bring out all your questions for your PoC journey. You have four weeks to get answers to whatever questions you have. There is a set of… more»

Apart from CA TDM, I've used IBM InfoSphere Optim, which was number-one TDM tool for quite some time, and I've used Delphix. Now, a couple of more tools have come into the market, like K2View. At one point in time, about two years back, CA… more»

What is most valuable?

The best thing about the product is its agility. It is a complete solution: people, process, and technology.

How has it helped my organization?

Previously, in IT Operations, this function was used to induct resources. It's a type of training platform for them to understand operations as an entry point. We used to take four to six months to… more»

What needs improvement?

CA needs to add a few more products in this suite, because right now they have automation, DR switching, and the third one is relief management. They could add change and release management.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This is a support system for us, not our core business, so we purchased this product inexpensively. Later on, we came to a very good deal, but it took us three years to finalize. We recently purchased… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Automic has been a Greenfield project. We were the first implementation and a number of banks went with this solution after us.

What other advice do I have?

Anything that can be automated, should be automated. The world is changing and new things are coming out a daily basis. These things take away your day-to-day spend, give you ample time to look… more»

What do you think of CA Privileged Access Manager?

What is our primary use case?

It reduces the viral attacks on my website. It also allows certain users access to see what happens daily.

What is most valuable?

The password manager is a valuable feature. It saves time for the user. The users do not have to remember the password or change the password. It is a user-friendly solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is enough power to support our whole organization and the scalability potential is very wide. We currently have between 50-100 users of the solution.

How is customer service and technical support?

The tech support is good. They are very…

What is most valuable?

It really helps with getting the alignment between strategy and execution for the product teams, all the way down to the delivery teams.

How has it helped my organization?

* It really helped to connect the dots between what the overall vision was down to T-Mobile. * Having that view into features and roadmap from product to delivery teams, and where they are going, then execute on. * Being able to have the information, helping to facilitate those conversations, and… more»

What needs improvement?

What I have learned is that a lot of features that I am looking for, in many cases, are part of a different tool set that CA offers. Really it is more learning about which features and tool, those features would be in. A lot of the features that we would be looking to add, I am learning may not be… more»

What other advice do I have?

I would give it about an eight and a half. The reason why it would not be higher is because some of the things we are looking for we had to get other tools to plug into. Whereas, some of the other solutions we have seen out there, it is all-in-one tool set.

How has it helped my organization?

What needs improvement?

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not involved in the pricing.

What other advice do I have?

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the end-user experience and transaction monitoring.

How has it helped my organization?

It has improved our transaction monitoring significantly.

What needs improvement?

The installation could be improved. Also, they need to concentrate more on the cloud for cloud monitoring.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We used HPE Diagnostics earlier. But since the client already had an existing license of CA APM, he wanted to leverage the existing toolset rather than going for new tools.

What other advice do I have?

Definitely a good product, worth going for. Since I first reviewed the product here, about two years ago, I would currently not change my rating of eight out of ten. CA APM hasn't changed much in that… more»
