Amazon Web Services, a collection of remote computing services, also called web services, make up a cloud-computing platform offered by Amazon.com. These services operate from 11 geographical regions across the world. The most central and well-known of these services arguably include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud and Amazon S3. Amazon markets these products as a service to provide large computing-capacity more quickly and more cheaply than a client company building an actual physical server farm.
DigitalOcean is an American virtual private server provider based in New York City. The company leases capacity from existing data centers, including sites in New York, Amsterdam, San Francisco, London, Singapore and Frankfurt. It is an Infrastructure as a Service, comparable to Google Storage and Amazon S3 online storage services. DigitalOcean has received $90.4 million in funding across four venture rounds from Techstars, Fortress Investment Group, Crunch Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, and IA Ventures.
