What do you think of SSIS?

Sql Server Integration Services (SSIS) 2016 Review Summary SSIS 2016 - the Good the Bad, and the Ugly SSIS is a unique ETL tool for a number of reasons. Most shops already own it but may treat it as a one-off free utility rather than as an enterprise ETL tool even though it can compete with the best of ETL tools. The lack of respect is primarily due to immature beginnings in its former "DTS" days. And some of it is because it comes bundled "free" with Sql Server and does not normally run (but can) on a separate server.  It can't be good if its free right?  Especially when competitors easily charge 6 figures for  their tools. Don't we get what we pay for?  My answer is, generally yes but this is a really big exception. SSIS has become extremely flexible, extensible and…

What do you think of SharePoint?

SharePoint has conquered the enterprise intranet. Although the conquest is never as bloody nor expensive as more invasive conquests, such as the Mongols under Genghis Khan, intranet citizens are not always thrilled by the new system and structure under Gates Khan. SharePoint is present in 80% of the Fortune 100; and plays a prominent intranet role in about 70% of knowledge worker intranets (either powering the main intranet portal, or delivering associated collaboration sites and/or document repositories). This in spite of its history. SharePoint 2007 was a dog; SharePoint 2010 was a dressed-up dog; but SharePoint 2013 represents a leap forward, and SharePoint 2016 and Office 365 represent considerable improvement into a a very usable, complex digital workplace solution. SharePoint…

What do you think of SharePoint?

SharePoint 2019 was unveiled recently, with great fanfare and buzz amongst those inside or close to the Microsoft community. But to most average users and administrators without insider caché, the new release – three years in the making – was met with little more than a nod. And very few have indicated they will rush to implement. Though those with Office 365 automatically have the latest features in SharePoint Online. SharePoint’s greatest strength is it’s an all-in-one approach – it’s a portal, a content management system, a search engine, a social collaboration platform, a web development platform, and so much more. Its greatest weakness is that it’s an all-in-one solution – everything and the kitchen sink; a jack-of-all-trades, a master of none. Some argue that SharePoint is a “mile…

What is most valuable?

* Linking the project teamwork (bugs, tasks, user stories, test cases ) with the code, build, release, delivery * It's a matter of integration to have only one platform for all your software development life cycle.

How has it helped my organization?

Azure DevOps helps us to implement all our DevOps practices with a complete end-to-end cycle starting from code commit till the production deployment including continuous feedback. This enables us to release the silos between the teams and enhance collaboration. Also, it gives us more control on the project delivery lifecycle and to fix the issues more earlier than before as we are aligned and… more»

What needs improvement?

* Enable more control on Application Insights integration to open different types of work items as this is area still need more enhancements. * Test management extension is too high to be paid on a monthly basis. * Test and feedback chrome extension still need more development as they are not very stable.

What is most valuable?

The functionality that is most valuable is the solution's ability to detect patient data in email attachments. Whenever a user sends out an email with patient data embedded in an attachment, it triggers an alert. The tool can detect a social security number and various other forms of patient identity. Emails are then automatically generated and sent.

What needs improvement?

Improvements can be made to the products generic offering. It's not customized for health care. It doesn't understand the meaning of health care related concepts. Providing a greater degree of industry specificity would make the tool much more unique and valuable. I would like to see a more user-friendly interface in the next release. We worked with a developer to upgrade the settings and optimize… more»

What other advice do I have?

The version we are using is very generic. It requires that you perform a lot of customizations. I rate this product a 7 out of 10. I give it this rating because it works but it's not sophisticated enough and not specialized enough for health care. It requires a lot of time to customize.

What do you think of SharePoint?

SharePoint is appreciated for its simplicity of use out-of-the-box, though derided for problems (and the expenses) customizing the user experience (design, navigation and information architecture). SharePoint is replete with functionality and applications, and is the most comprehensive intranet development platform on the market. It is, unfortunately, expensive, and most of the feature set that we use, and that our clients use, fall short of expectations, and often below best-of-breed. SharePoint isn’t a niche product that is supposed to be superb at web content management, or social networking; it’s a broad solution, one that has something for everybody; a solution that can please some, but not all. SharePoint’s greatest strength is that it’s an all-in-one solution – it’s a portal, a…

What is most valuable?

The feature I find most valuable is the fact that it's broad-spectrum, so it can be used for a wide variety of technologies. We are predominately .NET based and we use mostly .NET Core or .NET Framework so I can call in any immediate packages.

What needs improvement?

I would only say the deployment outline can be improved. We have shifted away from using Team Foundation Server, because it didn't work for our company. We shifted over to the Git approach and I do know that the Team Foundation Server has Git support. But we decided to rather go with GitLab as our main platform. In terms of more support I would like to have the ability to plug into other open… more»

What other advice do I have?

I would highly recommend this solution. They've really gone the 9-mile to accommodate not only corporate or big companies, but small, single users to utilize the community issue or business vehicle, and to develop and build on application. I would highly recommend it to anyone. In the next version, I would like to see systems like Juta as well as more testing tools. There's a massive automation… more»

The most valuable feature is the integration with different databases. There are many different databases that it supports.

What needs improvement?

The reporting services are quite limited in terms of features and need to be improved. I would like to see installation and packaging features added to the next release of this solution.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

What other advice do I have?

For anybody who is implementing this solution, I would suggest checking the reporting services beforehand. They can create limitations. Adding the installation and packaging features are really important and would improve the product a lot… more»
