What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature for me is the ease and customizability of reporting. We can get different reports and customize them to do different things. I also like business objects capabilities, although I haven't used them in my current role. This is a flexible solution. This tool is easy to use. I… more»

How has it helped my organization?

Our ability to do strategic portfolio reporting has gotten much better. We're more accurate with how we report out. One of the biggest things is that each year, we've had a lot of shifts in how our pillars are set up and we can quickly shift to meet those needs without having it be too lengthy or… more»

What needs improvement?

I would like to be able to integrate with Oracle to supplement what we're currently doing with reporting. We aren't doing it right now, although I don't know if it's a limitation with Planview or it's a limitation with us. I know that it would be helpful for me to bridge that gap because we have to… more»

What other advice do I have?

Currently, we are not taking advantage of the full functionality that is offered by this solution. We really need to push to get to that next level and use everything that is being offered. I think that there is a disconnect between the people who are the administrators of it and the people who… more»

What is most valuable?

It's easy to use compared to other platforms that I've worked on, e.g., Microsoft Project. Innotas was one of our contenders, but they ended up buying them, so it's good… more»

How has it helped my organization?

With the lifecycles, it helps us step through our processes easier. We'll take a process and create it in Visio, then we'll go and implemented in Planview. Anytime that we… more»

What needs improvement?

I would suggest for the request module that they open up the fields and columns so it's like we are doing our work in the work module. You can't do that with today. We… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have unlimited licenses for all of our functionalities. Since we went global, we went with that model.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We moved from another tool to Planview. I don't know what tool this current company was on. I worked for them for 10 months, then I left and I came back. I've been with… more»

What other advice do I have?

We do not use the solution’s Lean/Agile delivery tools yet. That's one reason why we were looking at this heavily at the conference. They seem to be really focused on… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated MS Project, because we thought we going to stay with them. We evaluated Planview and Innotas. There was another minor one too and we want to be more mature… more»

What is most valuable?

It gives us the visibility and ability to see exactly what is happening for our organization. Even though we're a global company, we had our Asia Pacific and EMEA groups doing whatever they did. Then, in North America, there was no… more»

How has it helped my organization?

We can see all the different initiatives that folks are working on and have been able to hook groups up, to say, "Let's not redo that. We're already working on that." Instead of having all this duplicity, we have one streamlined group… more»

What needs improvement?

I don't find the solution flexible. We have almost like a third-party group who has to do a lot of our configurations. It's a bit painful for us anytime we want to make a change. The other issue is that we have different groups all in the… more»

What other advice do I have?

I would rate the product an eight (out of 10). I've seen enough use cases from other organizations who have really transformed the way that they work. It's just clear that my organization is just not there. I have a lot of hope that this… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We went to a roadmap meeting with this very specific thought in mind that if we couldn't figure out how to do this in the way we needed to, then we were prepared to walk away from it. But, we did not have another vendor selected because we… more»

What is most valuable?

The portfolio management gives you a view of all the projects as well as all the information about the total amount of effort, time, and cost being spent on the projects. It gives the organization how… more»

How has it helped my organization?

With the IT side of it, the tool gave them visibility on all their projects from a program and enterprise perspective. The tool helps the enterprise with more capabilities in terms of decision-making… more»

What needs improvement?

I would like to see more documentation pieces. Right now, they do have the content repository. I would like to see more out-of-the-box features with document repository capabilities.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have portfolio managers, resource managers, project managers, and time reporting licenses. These are the licenses that we have.

What other advice do I have?

The tool has transformed. I have seen it grow. I have more than 12 years of experience working in Planview and have seen the tool from the start. I've seen all the versions, and it's grown to a more… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did on a comparison of different tools, such as, Planview and some other tools available. We did our evaluation of those tools and came up with Planview as the tool that we want to use. Initially… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is that my team can use one tool that's reliable, scalable, and provides the leadership team visibility to what's going on. This… more»

How has it helped my organization?

For resource managers, it's given them the ability to see when they have staff that is over-committed. Rather than react, we can work to mitigate that before the… more»

What needs improvement?

Integrating with other tools should be easier and more straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Because we have PPM Pro with Projectplace, we transitioned to the Flex model. It was necessary because our adoption rates, specifically on the Projectplace side, is… more»

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to using this solution, we came from Project Web Access, which is a Microsoft SharePoint-based project management tool. That tool allowed us to centralize to a… more»

What other advice do I have?

We have heard about some of the upcoming features and we are looking forward to them. For example, we are interested in more detailed card management within the… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did evaluate other options before choosing this solution. We looked at Microsoft Online, Clarizen, and some of the smaller tools like Wrike and Smartsheet. There are a… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is reporting. It is one of the biggest things for PPM Pro because we do all of our resource management within it, including the timesheet tracking and financial tracking, and a lot of that all rolls up. We have lots of dashboards built out, and we… more»

How has it helped my organization?

This solution is valuable because it saves us a lot of time from having to consolidate. Before PPM Pro, we didn't have a good way to consolidate our actual costs from an IT department. This has made it possible to capture all of those, plus mix in outside costs just by putting them in manually and… more»

What needs improvement?

Managing a project at the executable level is very difficult using PPM Pro alone, so it is necessary to use one of the integrations such as LeanKit of Projectplace. This solution does not work well as a task management system because it is very difficult to expand beyond just the basic tasks, and… more»

What other advice do I have?

There are changes in the product roadmap that I am excited about, including improvements to the reporting and enhancing the dashboards. I think it will help a lot. My advice for anybody who is researching this type of solution is that Planview is definitely a good option. Whenever you're setting… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features is probably the request module: * The work intake component is why we selected the product. * The resource management capabilities with demand management and capacity management. This is very strong. * We like the… more»

How has it helped my organization?

It's taken us from being a very disparate organization around projects to all focusing in now on each other's needs. Before, we would work in silos and everyone would spend a lot of capital on these projects. What we are finding today is… more»

What needs improvement?

Every time I think of something it's almost like magic, they implement it before I can even suggest it. They're in the walls, right? At this point, everything I've ever wished for has come true with PPM Pro. Now that we're just starting up… more»

What other advice do I have?

I would give PPM Pro a rating overall of nine (out of 10). What would make me feel like it were a 10 is a simple, silly thing, but if the application had a little more color to it. It's very monochrome. With the advent of a Kanban boards… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look at other products. We looked at Primavera, which is Oracle's product. At my previous job, I was with Hewlett Packard for 20 years, so I looked at HPE's product PPMC. Then, we wound up on PPM Pro for a couple of reasons: * It's… more»

What is most valuable?

It makes clear what people are working on. It is not just for managers but it is also for the people themselves. They are able to see and say, "I am on this project, and it's official. My manager… more»

How has it helped my organization?

It gave us a clarity of purpose. Everybody knows what they are doing and that they are all aligned: * Managers know what employees are doing. * Employees know what they are doing and the managers… more»

What needs improvement?

Anyone can go in and jerry-rig it. We would like the tool to be more locked down.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using something called PDWare. People hated it. Then, we had a team that went out and looked at the other things out there. I'm not sure of all the things that they considered but when they… more»

What other advice do I have?

We are not using Projectplace. We have been using JIRA. A lot of our technical teams is still using JIRA and most of the type of stuff is happening in JIRA, then we do a lot of the PMO stuff on PPM… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I would rate it at about eight (out of 10) only because we've been using it for two years but there have been some growing pains as we are learning how to use it and getting the team adopted. I… more»
