Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution can scale extremely well.""I like that the charges are all based on usage and labor costs. For the time that we spend onboarding almost 252020 FQDN, Akamai charges us only for the traffic usage, but it's only charging us for the labor costs for onboarding.""I can attest to its benefits in terms of understanding and mitigating threats...The solution's technical support team seems to be pretty responsive.""It enables us to move faster with new products because we have this layer of protection set up in our infrastructure.""All the solution's features are very good.""Adaptive stream delivery and WAF protection are valuable.""Everything will be handled by Akamai's system before it reaches our infrastructure.""The support that we got from their technical team has been fantastic. I have never experienced this level of support from other CDN providers."

"Companies that live from their presence on the internet will get a very high return on investment from Arbor.""We are able to respond quickly and prevent DDoS attacks.""The product allows us to check real-time progress, including latency and network activities.""We have taken on the Arbor Cloud subscription, which is really useful because you secure yourself for anything beyond your current mitigation capacity. This is a really good feature of Arbor that is available.""Arbor DDoS offers security features that automatically detect and prevent DDoS attacks.""Our customers are very happy when we provide them with the interface... They can check how many attacks they have faced and how many attacks have been blocked.""Arbor has a global ranking in reliability and credibility. They are very unique and can respond to a very wide scope of threats from their global deployment.""The stateless device format means that the box is very strong for preventing DDoS attacks."

Cons
"Could integrate more features for each security.""Support and the pricing need to improve.""One area where Akamai can improve is the captcha part. Cloudflare provides a captcha if there are a certain number of threats. For example, I can assign that if there are 10 requests within a second from a single IP, it should send a captcha to the user. The user should fill in the captcha, and only after that, the user should be able to access our website. This captcha feature should be built into Bot Manager. I love this captcha feature of Cloudflare.""Customer support has room for improvement.""It would be better if there weren't any issues with latency. We had latency issues, but I think they are all solved now.""A lot of piracy happens in India and other countries. If there is a product for protection from piracy, it would be great. For example, there are multiple hackers that hack your event, and there are some channels that pirate and publish the event on some other website. We protect our streaming through DRM and different technologies. We are also protecting the website, but hacking is still happening. If they can work on protecting from piracy, it would be great.""It would be nice if Akamai Web Application Protector's price is lowered and made cheaper.""We are experimenting with EdgeWorkers to write our own code at the Edge level. It could grow to be much better."

"On the main page there are alerts that we are unable to clear, even though the issue has been resolved.""There is always room for improvement for any product or service. If we can bring in more agility when deploying services, that is definitely a scope which we can work towards. Nowadays, everything is being offered as a service model. It is not that we have to deploy the physical hardware, many things move up to the cloud, or even can be delivered in the VNS form in the customer's environment as well. So, in that space, if we can add more features to make it more seamless for customers to use and make it available through some marketplace, not only at the hyperscalers, but also for any on-prem deployment, that definitely would be a big plus.""The support got worse after NETSCOUT acquired Arbor.""An improvement would be to provide information on how pricing is done on different customer levels.""Arbor's SSL decryption is confusing and needs external cards to be installed in the devices. This is not the best solution from an architectural point of view for protecting HTTPS and every other protocol that is SSL encrypted.""Sometimes it blocks legitimate traffic. If a legitimate user is trying to access the server continuously, the product suspects that this is a DoS traffic file. That is a case where it needs to improve. It needs machine-learning.""There should be an automatic way to configure it to monitor traffic and decide which is an attack and which is not. In Arbor, you need to tweak and set all parameters manually, whereas in Check Point DDoS Protector, you can select the lowest parameters, and over the weeks, Check Point DDoS Protector will learn the traffic and you can then tighten some of the parameters to decide which traffic is regular and which is malicious.""I think the diversity of protection is extremely limited. It must be expanded in future upgrades and versions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is no license at all for Akamai. They are going to charge us only for the usage."
  • "The price they are offering is quite reasonable for premium customers, but it's very expensive if you're a small and medium-sized enterprises."
  • "Cost depends on the volume of traffic."
  • "The solution is not expensive."
  • "The product’s price is high."
  • "The solution is expensive."
  • "Akamai Web Application Protector is an expensive product."
  • "Price-wise, I would say Akamai's pricing is competitive."
  • More Akamai App and API Protector Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Start with a small license. Measure your bandwidth requirements."
  • "Because the solutions from competitors are very different, it's not easy to compare. However, the licensing from Arbor is clear and understandable and the pricing is reasonable when looking at the market, in general."
  • "As far as I know, they are the best in this sector, in DDoS protection. They know it, I know, because their service prices are too high. They provide cloud DDoS protection for ISPs, but that is also too expensive."
  • "Arbor's products are very expensive. Their competitors are cheap when compared with Arbor."
  • "I'm a technical guy. But I know it's expensive compared to its competitors. After you have the on-premise solution, for your solution to be effective you have to subscribe to an "upper level," so there's another cost. There is also a subscription to cloud services, which is another cost."
  • "Pricing is slightly on the higher side."
  • "Arbor is striking a good balance between pricing and what they deliver."
  • "The solution is a bit costly if you're a small organization, but I think it's worth the price that they are charging."

    Questions from the Community
Top Answer:The custom rules must be improved. If we have a domain to be monitored, we can use the solution to alert us if a certain specification is met. If we need only 20,000 transactions, but there are 40,000… more »
Top Answer:I would say if it’s an ISP that will build a scrubbing center, Netscout/Arbor is a good solution. In all other solutions, Imperva is a great choice.
Top Answer:Arbor would be the best bid, apart from Arbor, Palo Alto and Fortinet have good solutions. As this is an ISP, I would prefer Arbor.

    Reviews from Real Users:

Below are some of the many reasons why PeerSpot users are giving Arbor DDoS an 8 out of 10 rating:

"We use it not only for DDoS detection and protection, but we also use it for traffic analysis and capacity planning as well. We've also been able to extend the use of it to other security measures within our company, the front-line defense, not only for DDoS, but for any kind of scanning malware that may be picked up. It's also used for outbound attacks, which has helped us mitigate those and lower our bandwidth costs.” - Roman L, Sr. Security Engineer at Rackspace

"We have taken on the Arbor Cloud subscription, which is really useful because you secure yourself for anything beyond your current mitigation capacity. This is a really good feature of Arbor that is available.” - Assistant General Manager at a comms service provider

“It is fully mitigating the attacks. We've dealt with other ones where we didn't necessarily see that. The detection is very good. It's also very simple to use. Arbor is a single pane of glass, whereas with other solutions you might have a detection pane of glass and then have to go to a separate interface to deal with the mitigation. That single pane of glass makes it much simpler." - Erik N., Product Manager, MSx Security Services at TPx Communications
