We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Bacula is pretty stable.""It can be used in virtually any environment we have onsite.""The solution has extensive documentation and a very active community.""It is easy to scale Bacula Enterprise even if your system is growing tremendously in data and servers.""It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light.""It works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure.""The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization."

"Metallic is user-friendly, cost-effective, and the technical support is impressive.""It's very user-friendly. It supports a wide range of workloads. It's quite easy to use, it's very powerful and it's scalable.""Scalability, as well as stability, are a couple of important parts of this solution.""The solution’s user interface for managing the on-prem environment is good.""The most valuable features of Commvault Hyperscale X are the full responsibilities inclined in conversion with high responsibility rates.""Restoring is very fast. In testing, I did a restore for a single item from a mailbox. Within a minute, I had the message back in my mailbox. So, it didn't take hours or days. Obviously, there will be a limit. If we suddenly go into DR and have to restore five terabytes of emails for people, then it will take a couple of days, which would be acceptable. For general usage, where we have to do the odd restore, we have never had issues. It happens within minutes.""It is a scalable solution.""Commvault is both very stable and scalable."

Cons
"Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement.""We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist.""A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed.""It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company.""Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy.""We would like to see an improvement in the functionality of the GUI.""The initial setup could be a bit easier."

"Commvault likes to be ahead of the game when it comes to merging with other platforms, but sometimes it's before they have the solution truly baked in. Office 365 is an example. I feel that my company might be a litmus test for their solution, because we have such a large environment. Some of the promised solutions that we received from Commvault were more like testing solutions. They weren't really validated, meaning they were possibilities. There have been a lot of hot fixes for the solution that we're using right now, more than we expected.""The product is expensive.""It would be nice to have just one email report come in, then we can filter out failures. If everything is backed up, we really don't need to see the report. If it is in a single report. A simpler customised report would be good.""I would like Commvault to have a feature for cybersecurity threats, e.g. securing the target backup repository. Commvault just started testing and releasing this feature, but it needs to be stabilized.""They reply to the support portal weekly, but there are some delays.""The HTML interface is a remarkable improvement. However, there are still some features that are not available in that interface that are available in the Java console, but I'm sure that will come with time.""The product does not provide an option to save a copy of data on-premises.""Commvault is a rich system that might scare somebody the first time they see it because it feels so huge."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is an open-source solution."
  • "We have a perpetual license."
  • More Bacula Enterprise Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
