We performed a comparison between Cisco Umbrella and Perimeter 81 based on real PeerSpot user reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Cisco Umbrella is favored over Perimeter 81 by users for its extensive capabilities, which include content filtering, customizable DNS blocking, and support for hybrid work. It also offers a more intuitive interface and a central policy for heightened security. Perimeter 81 is praised for its fast VPN connection and responsive customer service but falls short in terms of customization and features. Additionally, there is limited information on its licensing and ROI, whereas Cisco Umbrella's pricing is reasonable and provides tangible benefits to organizations.
"The most valuable features are the antivirus as a whole, the anti-malware, and all of the protection features that scan our enterprise devices."
"On the outside, the main differentiation is because Lookout ingest. They have ingested basically all of the apps for the last ten years and all the versions of all the apps, and we have that in a corporate database that allows us to do very large-scale machine learning and analysis on that data set. That's not something that any of the competitors really have the capability to do because they don't have access to the data set. A lot of the apps you can no longer get them because that version of the app is five or six years old, and it just doesn't exist anywhere anymore, except within our infrastructure. So, the ability to have that very rich dataset and learn from that dataset is a real differentiator."
"The protection offered by the product is the most valuable feature. It detects vulnerabilities or traps on our users' phones and then prompts them to clean up their devices. Tools we used previously would only discover, which required us to gather information on the backend, so Lookout is a welcome upgrade."
"The solution is stable."
"The core business of Cisco Umbrella is non-malware. That's all it does: block the malware on the gateway."
"The most valuable thing is how easy it is to deploy. We did it with 9,000 users at my last job, and it took a week to get to all the endpoints. Doing that without having to physically touch all those endpoints was very simple."
"The integration features within, for example, the Cisco VPN product and the Umbrella module are valuable."
"It provides centralized, device-agnostic management of the Internet experience."
"It is a good cloud-based solution for DNS security."
"The initial setup is very easy and takes only a few minutes."
"We like Cisco Umbrella because of DNS security. It's one step ahead of whatever we are using for regular web filtering. In that way, it's more secure than other web filtering products."
"They have a wealth of articles in their knowledge base. This has given me the freedom to troubleshoot on my own time. "
"Scaling Perimeter 81 was easy to do."
"Perimeter 81 has increased my security and privacy while maintaining solid internet performance."
"Perimeter 81 provides a very secure and non-disruptive experience."
"Even after restarting, it tries to quickly reestablish connection which is very helpful."
"The ease of use not only translates to quick adoption rates - it also ensures that our employees remain compliant with our cybersecurity protocols, enhancing the overall security posture of our organization."
"It connects quickly and stays connected. The user interface is pretty neat too. The app has in-house support with user guides that give you step-by-step walkthroughs on navigating the app. In addition, there is a live chat feature that offers prompt assistance on the go."
"It keeps us all accountable and ensures secure internet connections while we all work remotely."
"It helps to quickly get access to the pages I need."
"The stability depends on the service from where you access it. Because sometimes, the place you are in, you have Gateway. You don't have Gateway. The gateway is overutilized. At the end, you need to go through their gateways. And this is the key point here. You have a tracking point. If it's not well orchestrated, and it scales up as you add more to the existing team, you will suffer"
"Lookout was moving into the SSE space. And so their work on SecureWeb Gateway and SD-WAN is still sort of evolving."
"From the analysis that we've done, they do seem to be maybe a step behind in trying to enter the market with a new solution. But when they do pick up, they do come out with some good products."
"We just submitted an enhancement request reflecting the main area we want to see improvement in; the APIs. Currently, we're able to build dashboards, but it's somewhat backward because we use our MDM API to create them. Lookout should provide API to customers so we can query our data and use it in our cloud, and this is the only outstanding area for improvement with the product right now."
"I would like to have more applications being recorded."
"Data reporting could be improved."
"I am unsure if Cisco Umbrella offers a Windows option for running the server."
"It would be useful if they had a malware protection engine running inside their own VM."
"In the next release, I would like to see the integration of VDI NSX with Cisco Umbrella."
"If a hardware platform were provided for Umbrella, that would definitely improve the market for it... Especially when we are addressing governmental customers, they hesitate to connect to the cloud. That is where we need a hardware platform so that the solution can be used on-premises as well."
"This solution does not give us full, 360-degree protection."
"Lower costs including licensing, support, and renewals would be beneficial."
"I would suggest adding more networking and security features that allow more customization within their platform."
"Offering in-app explanations detailing what each feature does, its benefits and potential use cases can help users better understand and utilize the tool to its full potential."
"There are a few areas where the solution could be improved. For instance, we sometimes encounter connectivity issues, which can be problematic. Recently, I experienced a connectivity issue while trying to move to Azure. Connectivity issues can be quite frustrating."
"In order to have to bypass the login using the website, a good feature for Perimeter 81 to have is a login instance in the Perimeter 81 application. I'm using a Mac and we don't have that functionality."
"One of the more negative experiences using Perimeter 81 is the fact that I am logged off after a pre-determined amount of time which cuts off access to some of my company's resources."
"If I were to be nitpicky, I would ask that Perimeter 81 offer the option for us to change the color of the graphical user interface, like maybe pink or green or so on."
"I have found that the log-in/out process takes quite some time."
"What would be useful would be a notification/warning that a session is due to timeout after exceeding the default connection limit."
