We performed a comparison between Dell PowerConnect Switches and ExtremeSwitching based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two LAN Switching solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."There is high reliability since we have used them for close to twenty years and only had possibly one failure."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is simplicity."
"The most valuable feature of Dell PowerConnect Switches for me is the throughput. I also like that the product has more compatibility with Dell infrastructure, especially with EMC and new generation Dell servers. Dell PowerConnect Switches can also easily integrate with Dell servers, and this is another pro."
"Dell offers very good support."
"When the price is competitive the customers tend to choose the cheaper brand and then look at the features. So having a competitive price is a plus."
"The most valuable feature is stability."
"We have these switches installed in an environment with hardware from many other vendors, and so far, so good."
"The most valuable features are the jumbo frames and the stacking."
"ExtremeSwitching fabric technology is a unique technology used to protect against viruses. ExtremeCloud IQ is a very good and feature-rich solution compared to Cisco, Ruxi Networks, or Huawei."
"The price is low compared to the competition."
"The product offers a single management platform for multiple models of switches. The tool also allows users to manage multiple sites from a single dashboard."
"The performance of ExtremeSwitching is good."
"ExtremeSwitching is a good, stable platform."
"Setup was easy. It only took a couple of hours to set up."
"Our vendors are great and they offer very good support services."
"ExtremeSwitching switches are highly reliable."
"We've only been using the solution for half a year. We haven't run into any issues, but maybe over time, that may change. It's too soon to tell. Offhand, there aren't any features that are lacking."
"An area for improvement would be that it's very hard to configure if you're not familiar with the UI or CLI of the product. The UI itself could also be improved."
"It would be great to have modules that integrate with SDN solutions such as Cisco ACI, Arista SDN, Huawei Agile, and IBM."
"More stable firmware releases would be an improvement because we have had them randomly power on and off."
"When it comes to the configuration, there should be documentation and interactive help available to assist people who have experience with products from other vendors."
"Because of the stackings you lose some boards and switches."
"What's lacking in Dell PowerConnect Switches is SD-WAN integration, and this is what needs to be improved in it. All enterprises now move towards SD-WAN infrastructure, and because Dell PowerConnect Switches don't currently support SD-WAN, the product would be replaced, considered a secondary switch, or linked up to a different switch. Integration or support for SD-WAN is what I'd like to see in the next version of Dell PowerConnect Switches."
"I can't think of what we would want in the next release."
"ExtremeSwitching hardware lacks flexibility compared to some other options."
"Their support could definitely be better."
"We noticed over the years that the price of the Extreme Switches has been rising and this will become a concern in the future."
"The training and resources for learning are lacking."
"ExtremeSwitching switches are not prevalent in the industry, so it's harder to go online and research how to deploy their APs or switches. There is a broader user community for Cisco and Juniper because they've been around for a while and everybody has a bit of knowledge they can publish online."
"ExtremeSwitching has many features but having come from Cisco environments, there is a steep learning curve to learning all the functionality."
"There are latency issues that need to be addressed."
"The licensing is expensive."
