We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The duplication algorithm allows us to get a lot more use out of less storage. We're running a five terabyte array right now and we're running probably about 30 terabytes on it. So the duplication rate is pretty phenomenal, without a cost to performance. It still runs pretty smoothly.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""It has benefited my organization because it has reduced time to insights.""It has good, reliable, fast storage.""The solution is scalable.""It's incredibly easy to use and greatly simplified our ability to both deploy and manage our storage subsystems.""We're able to get higher-density workloads on the same infrastructure, and we have a smaller physical footprint. The performance is excellent – during our test the bottlenecks are never on the X array, it just keeps picking up the pace to match what you need. The real-time visibility is a differentiator in my opinion.""Overall stability is very good. It is a very stable solution."

"The support is excellent.""The pricing is very reasonable.""If your virtual machine that resides on it completely fills the storage space, thanks to it's built-in function of all-zero data space reclamation, you just have to ask to System Engineer to run a zero-free on hosts (thin provisioned) and you will get more space instantaneously.""The most valuable feature of Huawei OceanStor is the hybrid applications.""The solution is easy to scale as needed.""The solution works well for non-critical applications that do not require a heavy workload. The tool's all features are valuable.""The initial setup was straightforward.""Huawei OceanStor has the capability of SSDs, high-performance disks, and higher disk support."

"It is very easy to use.""The primary factors that make Huawei OceanStor Dorado Series highly valuable to us are its competitive pricing, exceptional performance, and stability.""The initial setup is straightforward. Deployment takes about a day.""The most valuable features are the five chips architecture and the purpose-built NVMe hard disk drive. Additionally, the IOPS feature is good.""The platform's most valuable features are reliability, intelligence, and fast performance speed.""The platform’s most valuable features are speed, accuracy, and encryption.""The product offers good performance.""Has good capacity, is effective and easy to manage."

Cons
"There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better.""We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency.""It is on the expensive side.""The tool's portfolio is minimal. It is expensive.""In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified.""The tool's pricing is higher than competitors.""I want to see Pure Storage not only be for fast storage, but I want to see it be for the entire data center."

"The security could be a bit more robust.""Could have a more stable, lighter Metro and better logging system.""Huawei OceanStor should work on its saturation level and should be able to take up more load. It should give the same performance that it gives at 20 or 30 percent load for 80 percent as well.""Technical support could be more helpful.""I would like to see the next generation all-flash, which could be combined.""Integration with mainstream solution technologies could be better.""In the future release, Huawei OceanStor should improve on what they already have. It is a good solution.""The administration should be simplified because there are a large number of options that make it too complicated, and the customers can get confused."

More Huawei OceanStor Cons →

"The solution needs to improve its integration.""Having distinct modules for data compression and encryption features enhances flexibility and performance optimization for users with varying requirements.""They should add a feature to the platform to help us manage storage communication with one of the vendors.""One of the key areas that need enhancement pertains to the software procurement process.""This solution does not support VMware VVols 2.0.""If they implement a backup solution directly into the OceanStor then it will be a valuable feature.""The initial setup was very complex.""There are some limitations to this product because they do not have unified storage."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "There are some costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, depending on the requirements."
  • "This product is not too expensive, and the price is competitive on the market."
  • "We usually recommend our customers choose advanced licensing and enterprise companies are more inclined to choose this solution because it is more cost-effective than competitors."
  • "The price of the solution is competitive compared to others, such as Dell EMC and Hitachi. I believe the reason they are providing a discount is they want to increase their penetration into the market."
  • "Huawei has very good pricing. They have some promotions that can be taken advantage of at certain times of the year, such as the end of December. They are providing aggressive pricing. In the Pakistan market, they are ready to beat any vendor in Pakistan because they want to grab the market."
