We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The feature that I have found most valuable is the scale-up and scale-down. The scale-up is an operation where the CPU boosts-up and then the memory will boost-up. That works awesomely.""In 90% of the cases, new devices are plug-and-play, so when a new version comes out then SevOne has support for it out of the box.""We've had great feedback from our customers about SevOne support. They're willing to set up a remote session upon request. You have to go through three tiers of support with most vendors, and they ask a lot of screening questions before they will do a remote session. You need to spend a lot of time before an engineer will host a remote session to look at your problematic system.""The automation feature is good because if your CMDB is OK and it is already in sync, then the automation part is good to go.""Scalability. I have never had to worry about how to handle really big environments.""The comprehensiveness of this solution's collection of network performance and flow data is one of the basics in the field for what it does. It meets all of our needs. So for all those areas, for the most straightforward collection capabilities, right up to NetFlow and even telemetry, it meets all those demands. Not only just basic or fundamental SNMP collection capability, but the product also supports what we need for the future with telemetry streaming. So it's very comprehensive.""With this tool it is interesting to show the info to the client and explain where the traffic is.""One of the most valuable features is the graphs, which you can build instantly. I have used some open-source platforms in the past, but they are not as good. With SevOne, the sampling in the graph can be every few seconds, not just every few minutes, and that's really helpful. It's really fast."

"The ability to create custom dashboards is one of the best features and that's typically why most people deploy Splunk. Users can create dashboards for just about anything.""The solution's basic visibility is one of its most valuable features. So, it is a solution that is easy to use...The solution's initial setup process was straightforward.""The most valuable feature is log reporting.""The vibrant dashboards are valuable.""It is very easy to monitor multiple cloud environments. It's like a single pane of glass for us. We can use it to monitor our on-prem and both of our cloud environments as opposed to having different tools for each environment. It makes it all come together in one tool.""The product retains a lot of log data for subsequent analysis.""We haven't really experienced any glitches or bugs.""It is a great resource for us because we have so many different data sources and to be able to aggregate that and put it through a concise dashboard or an alert really helps."

Cons
"In terms of having a complete view of our network performance, I would rate it a nine out of 10. The reason for not giving it a 10 is that there is no packet capture associated with SevOne, but we do have other tools in place to do that.""The GUI: both the dashboard/user view and the admin tool.""The user management features need to be improved. It would be nice if we had more granular control, or layers of control, out of the box.""The reporting of NMS is good, but it could be better.""Some similar solutions offer end-to-end visibility.""The reports are easy to configure but they are a bit outdated in terms of appearance and visualization.""The method of searching for SIP and the way to create the groups.""SevOne should work with the graphs legend functionality."

More IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) Cons →

"This solution is difficult to configure and the instructions are complex.""It would be useful if they provided some help pages. If you don't know too much about the tool, there should be more documentation readily available. It would be useful if they had a help button embedded in the solution so you could ask questions and get answers.""We still use Splunk Enterprise licensing. A lot of the newer features go into Splunk Cloud before Enterprise. We're not looking to switch our licensing over, so we're falling behind on the newer features.""We have both on-prem and cloud, and the challenge is getting all our log data aggregated or streams aggregated so that it is real-time. We do a pretty good job of that, but our organization is not using it as a security platform when it can do a great job of that.""The solution's stability is an area that has room for improvement. It needs to provide constant stability to its users.""The product collects a lot of data but it does not assure that it collects all of it.""Splunk could be better integrated with configuration manager solutions so we can automatically resolve issues without human interference.""They need more EDR functionalities."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Have a bank of licenses, because it is about the number of objects (RAM, ports, CPU, etc.)."
  • "Choose a SevOne partner who can provide SevOne as a service and can deliver professional services and maintenance."
  • "It is inexpensive compared to other monitoring tools."
  • "Prices per license are not huge, but they exist."
  • "There are cheaper solutions available."
  • "The pricing has been fair."
  • "Many tools price things based on the number of KPIs that you're collecting around a device. In many cases, there could be hundreds of metrics that you need to collect. SevOne provides device-level pricing. That gives us the flexibility to turn on, and expand on, the metrics that we're collecting around those devices, without taking a financial hit."
  • "The pricing has not evolved with the market, which is one of the reasons we are moving to a new product."

  • "The product is a bit expensive considering the competition but the company may negotiate the price."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "The solution's pricing is competitive. I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten. The price of the solution could be cheaper."
  • "Splunk has been fairly expensive, but it has been predictable."
  • "I would rate the price of Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring as an eight out of ten, with ten being the most expensive."
  • "I am not in that circle, but we are currently licensing based on our queries. That is working out for us. Previously, it was by volume of data, and now, we can store as much data as we want."
  • "It is expensive."
  • "Splunk's infrastructure monitoring costs can be high because our billing is based on data volume measured in terabytes, rather than the number of devices being monitored."
