We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"In terms of performance, Juniper switches have a more user-friendly interface and more features than Cisco products.""It is a highly stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine to ten out of ten.""I like the VLAN capabilities, and the Junos interface is easy to use.""Juniper supports all our connectivity infrastructure in our datacenter, supporting optimal availability and performance for services.""The virtual Chassis feature for stacking is good in general, with high bandwidth for the link, which is good.""This solution is impeccable.""Juniper is the best when it comes to the core layer.""Juniper Ethernet Switches' most valuable feature is the Juniper-Mist cloud, which facilitates management of the switches and access points."

"The MikroTik Hotspot is great.""These routers and switches are very stable.""The product is very reliable.""It's great for small businesses or home offices.""The solution offers very good multi-routing.""The initial setup is very straightforward. You can typically set them up in about 30 minutes.""I use the tool to block external attempts.""One of the primary advantages is its competitive pricing in the market."

Cons
"Juniper Ethernet Switches could improve in the EX 2300 model because it does not support IPsec VPN. Only the models at 3400 or higher support it. Additionally, there is a need for support for Mac which is lacking. Some of their competitors, such as Cisco, support Mac.""The protocols can be tunneled, but on a global basis, not on an interface, and this is a feature that should be added.""The price could be a bit lower.""In the next release of this solution, I would like to see better integration with software-defined networking.""The initial setup for Juniper switches is complex. Juniper has a new program that solves that problem a little bit, but it is expensive, so I don't use it. It is Juniper Mesh, Juniper Wire, or something like that where you plug in a switch, and it goes out to their cloud, finds a config, and brings it down. So, you can do everything cloud-based, but there is a fee for that. It is expensive, so I've never used it. If we were starting, we would try to do something like that. It is more for a large enterprise for managing hundreds of switches versus what we're doing. They should make its price more cost-effective or include it for new or smaller companies.""It would be nice to have a more available list of modules that you can get for this solution.""We would like it if there was more security added in future releases.""The only issue that we have with Juniper Ethernet Switches is the firmware because it is not stable."

More Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches Cons →

"If the client wants bigger capacity, there may be some issues. That is, there may be issues with scalability.""I would like to have the option of having multiple logins.""There needs to be better support for this solution in India. We have no local support.""The queuing functionality needs improvement. The initial setup could be simplified.""The manageability of the web-based UI needs to be improved.""I would appreciate enhancements to impose more restrictions on VPN connections.""If the reporting functionality of the solution is considered, I think it is not good.""The updates as well as the patches could be improved. I believe it would be beneficial to automate the process of router patching to avoid the need for manual checks. With automated patching, as long as the router is connected to the internet, it can automatically perform necessary updates. Failing to patch the router can leave me vulnerable to potential security threats."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Support prices and licensing scheme need to be improved to allow some features to be purchased at lower costs, for example, RPM."
  • "We purchased the box for a one-time charge, and we are paying a yearly support fee of several hundred Euros."
  • "The maintenance cost is approximately €2,000 ($2,200 USD) per year, including support, for our entire fleet."
  • "This solution is cheaper than Cisco or HP switches."
  • "The Juniper switches are less expensive than competing brands."
  • "Juniper costs less than the competition. As a comparison, Cisco is 33% more."

  • "This product is a one-time purchase."
  • "In our last project, we used two hundred units and the price was approximately 500 Shekels ($140 USD)."
  • "There is no licensing fee in addition to the hardware, but we do pay an annual fee for support."
  • "This product is cheaper than competing products by other vendors."
  • "There are not any external or hidden costs."
  • "The price-performance is great."
  • "MikroTik is very cost-effective and quite good for the price. It performs very well. For one of our customers, the existing setup comprises Cisco Catalyst switches, and it is about 10 to 15 years old. We're looking into upgrading in a cost-effective way to get the performance and yet still be at par with the quality and expectations that customers have from Cisco. Price-wise, Cisco is really expensive, and customers are expecting something different than Cisco so that they can save on IT costs. They don't have the same budget that they had before when they installed Cisco products. That's why they're looking for a solution that can provide performance and features without too much money or investment. We're looking at some alternative brands, such as NETGEAR and MikroTik, to support our proposal."
  • "The main reason we use this solution is for the price — it's very cheap."

    Reviews from Real Users

MikroTik stands out among competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its reasonably priced products and its user-friendly user interface, which makes it easy to work and communicate with its hardware.

Parameshwar P., a director at Navyug Networks, writes, "I like MikroTik's GUI. It's completely handy and easy to handle because of its GUI. Despite other brands like Cisco urging me to switch, I didn't because they don't have a GUI. This is the most comfortable thing in my project that anyone can use easily. It’s effortless to maintain MikroTik routers because both screens make it very easy in GUI mode. You can easily interact with your hardware.”

Rodney T., the chief solutions architect at Tech2go Strategic IT Solutions, says, "They are very good at providing the bandwidth for multi-tenants and multi-dwelling units. We're managing Wi-Fi hotspots for hundreds of locations, and the speed and performance are quite there. They also have very cheap 10G products that come with really good and flexible software. They are way cheaper than the top brands, and they're able to deliver the same performance and capabilities."

A principal consultant at a tech services company notes, "The most valuable aspect of this solution is the combination of value for money. They're extremely cost effective, yet they provide you with an extensive feature set of things you can do across the board. Also, they're pretty reliable, as far as equipment goes."
