Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Good data flow and management.""All features are valuable. It is very user-friendly, and it is mostly drag-and-drop. If we have the dataset available, then we can develop any dashboard very quickly.""I consider Tableau to be the best analytical tool available. It's really handy to use and can be used by non-technical people.""The ease of presenting findings is very helpful.""Tableau's most valuable features are its ability to summarize data, provide dynamic controls for navigating different charts, and showcase historical data trends. I appreciate the option to colour-code different charts for improved customer experience.""Very user friendly.""Show Me is a feature to help with knowing which chart is an appropriate one for the selected variables, and it makes helps in creating appropriate visuals.""The data visualization piece is most valuable. We do ad-hoc analysis or one-time shot things, but there are things that we have to track every single day. When our management and our customers want to see how things are changing, the dashboarding provides that information. Tableau is key in providing that data on a refresh basis. We use a data blending tool that pumps the data into Tableau, and we just schedule it to run every single day. So, the automation of the data and being able to present it to people who are interested are the most valuable features."

"The growth time is the most valuable feature of TIBCO Jaspersoft.""We find the access restrictions on different user groups valuable.""You can do quite a lot with it in terms of automated reports and dashboards.""The feature that I like most is the drag and drop capability.""The end-user reporting is very handy and the standard reports that can be achieved by using Jaspersoft Studio are quite impressive.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten...The deployment process of TIBCO Jaspersoft is easy.""The solution is standalone with the flexibility to use visualize.js to embed within the application.""It's easy to use and maintain."

Cons
"There should be more widgets that would help less trained individuals create charts with less difficulty.""Navigating through activities like cleansing, reshaping, and wrangling extensive or complicated datasets could prove challenging within the Tableau environment.""Whenever it comes to specialized visualization, Tableau is an absolute failure.""I am a BI consultant. I have worked on different reporting tools, such as Power BI and MicroStrategy. As compared to other tools, Tableau lags behind in handling huge enterprise-level data in terms of robust security and the single integrated metadata concept. When we connect to large or very big databases, then performance-wise, I sometimes found Tableau a little bit slow. It can have the single metadata concept like other tools for the reusability of the objects in multiple reports.""I would like them to include the Italian language, as I can see there are other foreign language in the product.""Most of the problems in Tableau Online that I have noticed have to do with performance or weird, inexplicable bugs that I can't pin down. For example, you might try unloading some data, and you'll be waiting for a long time without anything happening.""The process of embedding the dashboards on external portals and websites could be improved.""At the organizational level, increasing the servers' capabilities to support us as an enterprise tool."

More Tableau Cons →

"The Ad Hoc Report Writer does not include as many features as Tableau and needs to be improved to meet expectations.""I would like to see some analysis done prior to data extraction. The data extraction itself could also be improved.""Customization is an area with certain shortcomings in the solution that needs improvement.""I would like to see better support for big data.""Currently, JSON format is the main format we use, however, in TIBCO Jaspersoft, XML format is the default and JSON did not work because TIBCO did not fix it.""TIBCO Jaspersoft would benefit from enabling you to run multiple reports in one file and incorporating more options related to multiple reports.""The stability of TIBCO Jaspersoft needs improvement.""A better focus should be put on self-service reporting."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For big business, Tableau could be expensive as having a lot of Tableau server users (entering with a browser to reports) could be a bit expensive."
  • "Best advice on pricing is to anticipate the desire for more licenses once the results of this product are acknowledged in other parts of your company."
  • "Paying for users you never setup or buying expensive desktop licenses for users who can solve their users with web editing on the server are the two biggest expenses."
  • "Buy 50 at a time. Project your use base every three months, and project your requirements forward."
  • "Tableau can be costly (but this can be indefinable, such as user experience vs. cheaper etc.)"
  • "I wish there was more of a subscription model with the pricing when it comes to Tableau, so you can get all the latest version upgrades/features if you pay monthly/annually."
  • "The cost is high."
  • "Deployment of dashboards to viewers and unit supervisors can be prohibitively expensive."
  • More Tableau Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing is cost effective because it is based on servers rather than users."
  • "I find the price to be reliable and not overly costly."
  • "I give the cost of the solution a five out of ten."
  • "Since I checked last time, only one annual license costs about $25,000."
  • "The solution is a little bit expensive."
  • "I would rate the pricing as four out of five because it's expensive."

Any company (be it technology, manfucaturing, human resource, ecommerce, SME etc) always has the need for Business Intelligence to some or the other extent. If cost is one of the consideration factor, then the 2 BI tools which are at the forefront are Pentaho and Jaspersoft. But, often the same companies are caught up in an imbrogilo as to which tool to use, what are the technology/and end business user wise differences/ do i actually need to purchase commercial edition, is there any work around etc. Differences :- In the below mentioned points, I have tried to cover functionality wise the differences a. Reports :- Jaspersoft is known for its picture pixel perfect reporting. Jasper uses ireport for designing the reports. Hence, for having reports, Jaspersoft is the most ideal candidate. Pentaho uses Pentaho Report Designer. b. Dashboards :- Pentaho provides much more capabililties, interactivity in terms of dashboards. Dashboards designed in Pentaho are far more superior in functionality, aesthetically as compared to Jaspersoft. Pentaho CE uses CDE/CDF, Pentaho EE uses PDD . Dashboard functionality is present only in the Enterprise edition of Jaspersoft. c. Pentaho is having an intermediate layer known as Xactions & hence providing much more flexibility in terms of plugin designing, integration with applications, having out of box experience etc. Xactions supports scripting and scheduling of scripts execution. Jaspersoft dosent provide that much of flexibility in terms of… Read more →
