Customizable with good forecasting capabilities and a nice dashboard
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution offers a very straightforward setup."
  • "The pricing is very high."

What is our primary use case?

Veeam ONE is for dashboarding purposes. Veeam ONE has the ability to forecast how the infrastructure will be working in the future. You can visualize how you manage your resources or forecast storage. Veeam ONE can also forecast the usage of servers or the lifecycle of servers. It can tell you how your server's working currently and if you use X in the future, how many servers you require for new deployments.

What is most valuable?

It's very useful, customizable, and scalable.

It's good for forecasting future needs.

The dashboard has been very useful. It has good reporting on offer.

The solution offers a very straightforward setup.

It's stable.

What needs improvement?

There aren't really any areas for improvement.

The pricing is very high.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with the solution for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The scalability is very good. I'd rate it nine out of ten. It's easy to expand.

We have five to ten users on the product right now. They monitor 500 or 600 users from the dashboard.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't used technical support. I haven't had any issues. I've been able to manage everything so far.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is very simple and straightforward. That said, it can get complex once you add servers. It takes time to sync the server, for example.

It takes one to two hours to deploy the solution.

The whole process is very simple. You just click next, next, next, and you are done.

What was our ROI?

The stability is good. In a previous version, the stability was good, however, in the newer version, it is working properly. It's reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's an expensive solution. Clients sometimes wonder why they pay so much if they only want reporting.

Users can choose between monthly and yearly pricing.

What other advice do I have?

It is a very good product; however, it's expensive. I'd rate it nine out of ten based on the capabilities and value we get out of it.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, easy to set up, and has straightforward reporting capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to set up initially."
  • "We'd like to see them add more custom templates."

What is our primary use case?

We're still in a phase of the learning curve. Our learning curve is growing exponentially, and we are trying to get the best benefits from it as it's used for reporting and creating templates for reporting based on the business scope.

What is most valuable?

It's very reliable. We can generate many reports related to the backup across the sites, not only for the servers but for the workstations also.

The dashboard is great. It shows us the sizing, the backup, and the encrypted data (or what is not encrypted). It's helpful to see especially the sizing, as it can tell us a lot. We can calculate the data storage based on our needs. We can make sure there is an availability of resources for the nodes. It's giving us full visibility in our environment.

It is easy to set up initially.

The solution is scalable.

It is stable.

What needs improvement?

As a reporting tool, it's doing good. It's only used for reporting and to gain all the data across our Veeam and Backup Replication that we need. The areas of expansion are limited in our use case since it's only used for reporting.

We'd like to see them add more custom templates.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable. It's reliable. We haven't had issues with bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and easy to expand.

We have six people using the product right now.

At this point, we do not have plans to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been good overall.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I do have an experience in Veeam One, Veeam Enterprise, and Veeam Backup and Replication. I did not previously use a different solution that was not Veeam.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex at all.

We only need one person to handle deployment and maintenance tasks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't speak to the exact licensing costs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did take a look at Commvault and Veeam and ultimately chose to go with Veeam.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure which version of the solution I'm using. It's likely the latest version.

I'd advise potential new users to carefully review the steps and documentation. Users implementing the solution need to have an action plan in place. They need to have a roll-back plan in place as well in case anything goes wrong. Use the custom templates and use them to help manage everything.

Overall, I would rate the solution nine out of ten.

Integrated with Veeam backup and centralizes well
Pros and Cons
  • "I don't have to go back and forth between different applications to get the report I need."
  • "In future releases, I would like to see the solution provide auto resolution and auto relocation of resources."

What is our primary use case?

I am a system administrator. My role is to oversee the support of the company's network. I also take care of the deployment and maintenance. We use Veeam ONE to optimize hypervisors or my virtual machines.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution includes reporting on the virtual machines and the sources. It centralizes well.

What is most valuable?

Veeam ONE is integrated with Veeam backup, so it includes reporting on both. I don't have to go back and forth between different applications to get the report I need.

What needs improvement?

Veeam ONE does the basic job of reporting, but it does not meet my requirements of automated resolution.

In future releases, I would like to see the solution provide auto resolution and auto relocation of resources.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam ONE performs as required. It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable. It depends on the kind of functions you require and what you want to get out of the product.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate Veeam ONE's technical support a four out of five.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Veeam ONE is simple and straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment was done in-house. It takes less than one day to deploy Veeam ONE. To implement, I created a virtual machine and installed Veeam ONE on it. I just had to attach it to the Hyper-V service.

What was our ROI?

Veeam ONE saves me a lot of time, so I don't have to look and monitor each service on its own.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a three-year license with Veeam billed annually. The cost is based on the number of core servers.

I would rate the pricing of the solution a three out of five.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I am looking into Turbonomic to see if it can do more than Veeam ONE.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam ONE is a good product if you are looking for monitoring and reporting. If you are looking for automated solutions, you will have to look somewhere else.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten overall.

A product that is easy to use and provides good visibility to users
Pros and Cons
  • "The product's initial setup phase was straightforward."
  • "For our company's usage, the price of the product is considered to be one of the major drawbacks because we have a lot of infrastructure, and its services don't fit well with our needs."

What is our primary use case?

I use my company mostly to monitor Veeam O365's licensing and backup. In our company, we don't use it for infrastructure monitoring.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it works well for our company. The main feature we use of Veeam ONE in our company is Veeam O365.

What needs improvement?

I have no visibility on what needs to be improved in the solution.

For our company's usage, the price of the product is considered to be one of the major drawbacks because we have a lot of infrastructure, and its services don't fit well with our needs. The aforementioned area can be considered for improvement in the solution. The price of the product should be reduced.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for six months to a year for two of our infrastructures.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Since I haven't received any feedback from my team related to the stability of the product in our company, I rate the product's stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I don't have any visibility over the scalability options offered by the product.

Only two or three people in my organization work with the solution.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was straightforward.

I wasn't involved in the initial setup phase of the product.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

The solution can be deployed in less than half a day.

Though I am not sure about how many people are required to take care of the deployment and maintenance of the product, I am sure that the two or three people who use the solution handle it.

What was our ROI?

With the use of Veeam ONE, our company was able to identify technical problems in our Veeam infrastructure, and we were also able to do some optimization work with its help.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My company needs to pay towards the licensing cause attached to the solution on a monthly basis as my company operates as a service provider. The product is expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company did not evaluate other options against Veeam ONE.

What other advice do I have?

The product fits well according to the needs of our company.

Veeam ONE is a simple product that is easy to use, and it provides good visibility of the environments in which it functions.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.

Useful growth tracking, overview tracking, but increasingly complex
Pros and Cons
  • "The most beneficial aspect of Veeam ONE is the ability to track your company's growth on a month-to-month basis. With this tool, you can determine if you need to purchase more target storage or if you have enough. This is essential for budgeting purposes, as, without this information, you may discover too late that you require additional storage or that your cloud usage is not aligning with what you are being charged. Veeam ONE aids in forecasting and usage analysis, making it a valuable asset."
  • "One common customer complaint is that Veeam, not just Veeam ONE, has become increasingly complex over time. This means that it is now very feature-rich, which can be challenging for some users to navigate and understand. There is a need for more education on how to use the GUI and all of the available features. Even regular users of Veeam may struggle to utilize the new features, which makes it more challenging for backup administrators to manage their backups. The platform is not becoming simpler, but rather, it is becoming more complicated over time."

What is our primary use case?

I am demonstrating specific reporting capabilities of Veeam ONE to customers, which includes a valuable yet lesser-known feature that enables the creation of a VIZIO diagram for the entire VMware cluster, displaying all servers that can be further explored. This feature is highly beneficial as it can create a comprehensive video diagram of the entire infrastructure, including servers, storage, and connected devices, in just one hour, whereas doing it manually would take weeks. However, the feature is not widely known and needs to be located in the software. It is an invaluable feature that can almost pay for itself if utilized.

The purpose of using this solution is to estimate the need for expansion and growth. This involves monitoring the number of restores, daily usage patterns, and the timing of tool usage. The primary objective is to ensure successful backups and that they occur as scheduled. You must examine any growth patterns that you detect, whether on a daily or weekly basis and analyze the number of restores you perform. This is particularly beneficial for sizing your target and determining retention capacity for both on-premises and cloud scalability. All the data and reporting aid in assessing the size, growth, and availability of your data, as well as its overall success.

How has it helped my organization?

The Veeam ONE diagram is a relatively unknown feature that is only available in the solution. This tool enables you to create an overview of your entire infrastructure, based on your VMware cluster, and delve deeper to obtain specific information about each server, including how they are interconnected and their respective names. Having this tool at your disposal is undoubtedly valuable.

What is most valuable?

The most beneficial aspect of Veeam ONE is the ability to track your company's growth on a month-to-month basis. With this tool, you can determine if you need to purchase more target storage or if you have enough. This is essential for budgeting purposes, as, without this information, you may discover too late that you require additional storage or that your cloud usage is not aligning with what you are being charged. One common customer complaint is that Veeam, not just Veeam ONE, has become increasingly complex over time. This means that it is now very feature-rich, which can be challenging for some users to navigate and understand. Even regular users of Veeam may struggle to utilize the new features, which makes it more challenging for backup administrators to manage their backups. The platform is not becoming simpler, but rather, it is becoming more complicated over time.

It would be helpful if Veeam ONE allowed a view of all of your repositories in a single panel, rather than having to check multiple repositories separately. This consolidated view would provide better visibility on the target repository, which can be very helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam ONE does not need scalability. However, scalability becomes a consideration when assessing the ease of adding repositories and storage to the back end via the VIN GUI. Fortunately, this process is not particularly difficult.

We sell Veeam ONE to 50 percent of our engagements.

How are customer service and support?

The support from Veeam ONE is excellent.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process for Veeam ONE can be complicated, depending on your usage. It is not a straightforward process. You need to establish a Veeam ONE server, which is something that many users may not be aware of. It is necessary to dedicate a Veeam server as either a standalone or a VM for a VM server, which adds complexity to the initial setup process.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment using Veeam ONE because it helps in sizing, scaling, and projection.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing structure for Veeam ONE has changed to what is now called the "VUL" or "Universal License". Previously, people mainly used socket licenses, but this has now changed. The new pricing structure was introduced last year.

The concept of the universal license for Veeam ONE still needs to be explained more to customers. While Veeam ONE is still a good option in terms of pricing, it's important to note that it's only the software component, and a target appliance is also required. This is different from the full appliances and software options like Rubrik and Cohesity. It's crucial to understand that Veeam ONE is not the complete backup solution, but rather a part of it that needs to be combined with additional components.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam ONE has a lot of great features, and it's worth spending time exploring its capabilities. The video diagram feature is especially valuable because it's easy to use and provides significant benefits in addition to Veeam ONE's reporting.

I rate Veeam ONE a seven out of ten.

  • "Agent backups could be better. I have many problems with agent backups, particularly on Linux and MySQL databases. MySQL works well with Microsoft products but not with other products. The database backups are not working correctly, and we are losing business. I am not getting any support; administration is also a significant problem."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam ONE for backup and replication, and disaster recovery purposes.

What is most valuable?

I like the backup and backup copy features.

What needs improvement?

Agent backups could be better. I have many problems with agent backups, particularly on Linux and MySQL databases. MySQL works well with Microsoft products but not with other products. The database backups are not working correctly, and we are losing business. I am not getting any support; administration is also a significant problem.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for over four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam ONE is stable for small uncomplicated projects.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give stability an eight.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam ONE is scalable.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give scalability an eight.

How are customer service and support?

Support could be better.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. Based on the project size, implementing this solution can take 24 hours, 72 hours, or even a week. A team of four can quickly deploy and manage this solution. They can handle configurations and backup failures daily. I can maintain 12 projects by myself.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give the initial setup a nine.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay every month for Enterprise Plus. There are no additional costs.

  • "Veeam ONE is a straightforward solution and compatible with almost all hardware."
  • "Veeam ONE should make available notifications through SMS."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam ONE for our VMware backups and our VMs in VMware.

What is most valuable?

Veeam ONE is a straightforward solution and compatible with almost all hardware.

What needs improvement?

Veeam ONE should make available notifications through SMS.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam ONE for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I never had any issues with the solution's stability. One of our servers had a ransomware issue. We isolated it to the system, restored it from Veeam ONE, and protected it.

I rate Veeam ONE an eight out of ten for stability.

Proactively monitors and helps in resolving issues efficiently but needs more customization features for dashboard
Pros and Cons
  • "The installation is pretty straightforward."
  • "In future releases, I would like to see more automation capabilities. It could integrate with automation services to automatically resolve identified issues rather than simply providing instructions to the user."

What is our primary use case?

Our customers use it to monitor their backup infrastructure as well as the hypervisor.

What is most valuable?

Most of the customers like the features that monitor the VMware infrastructure.

Moreover, the product proactively identifies potential issues and provides suggestions on how to address them.

What needs improvement?

In future releases, I would like to see more automation capabilities. It could integrate with automation services to automatically resolve identified issues rather than simply providing instructions to the user.

Moreover, I would like to see customization on the dashboard and the reporting level.

Another area of improvement is the support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for around eight years. I'm working with Veeam ONE and Veeam Data Platform.

We work with the latest version, v12.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. It needs some improvement, especially on database connectivity, when the database grows. So, these issues are there for some of our customers.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability an eight out of ten. It needs some improvements.

We have around 15 customers using this solution. Some are enterprises, some are government entities, and some are SMBs.

How are customer service and support?

Generally, what we have noticed with Veeam support is that it's getting worse. We have to resolve this by ourselves, and it happened recently also with two to three cases. Our engineering team was able to resolve this instead of waiting from their side.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.

It was straightforward. No complexity here.

What about the implementation team?

The installation is pretty straightforward, and some configurations need to be done. The entire process can be done within a day; we can complete it.

For the deployment process, we need to identify where to place the solution and the required ports for Veeam ONE. We identify the network requirements, all the ports, and firewall ports needed to connect to the VMware and backup infrastructures.

It's placed on a dedicated machine, and we configure a skilled server instead of SQL Xpress due to limitations. Then, we deploy it, add the backup and VMware infrastructures, set up the license, and configure rules and alerts.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is reasonably very cheap. I would rate the licensing model a one out of ten, where one is very affordable and ten is extremely expensive.

There are no additional costs. Most of our customers take it as a bundle with Data Cloud. From advanced, they take the bundle. So it comes with Veeam ONE. So, it's very affordable.

What other advice do I have?

If it's purely a VMware environment, then I definitely recommend it. If it's a heterogeneous environment, they may not be able to monitor on-premise servers or the cloud. So, if it's purely VMware, then I would recommend it.

Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.
