We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We use Amazon Route 53 for dynamic naming and routing policy.""The solution effectively monitors the health of resources and provides good identity access management.""The scalability is the most valuable feature.""Technical support from Amazon is very good...Overall, the product is stable.""The main DNS resolution is really, really fast.""You can host your zone and name servers here, and keeping track of records is easy.""The most valuable feature is that it works very well.""It stands out for its user-friendly interface, seamless integration with other AWS services, and ability to efficiently manage DNS, making it a valuable tool for various deployment scenarios, including those involving Kubernetes on AWS."

"When we have laptops that leave the building, they could connect to public WiFi before they establish a VPN connection back into the company. For that duration or that period of time when they're not docked in the network or on a VPN, they effectively don't have that full layer of security that I provide inside the building. This tool stands in during that period of time, and we extend the security settings through their basic firewall or their cloud-based firewall at that time. So, we do content filtering and control access, but they also are looking at new domains, IP addresses, and bad requests. They're blocking them on my behalf when a laptop is not sitting behind our security appliances.""The most valuable feature is the ability to block users from reaching places that they should not even try to reach has been a boon.""I have found the malware protection feature valuable. It is helpful and deliverable and is able to protect my entire organization from getting compromised. It also prevents us from visiting any malicious sites which are not visible to the users.""One of the great advantages of Umbrella DNS is that it's really simple to deploy. It's easy to install, the users do not notice that it's there, and it doesn't interfere with your work. The simplicity and transparency are great advantages of Cisco Umbrella.""It offers good visibility for the Administrator. The administrator has full visibility of what is blocked or has the knowledge of where users go when they are surfing the internet.""I like the DNS layer security.""Using this solution has meant that we've needed to make fewer firewall changes.""We've found it to be stable and good for our customers."

Cons
"The product’s security and disaster recovery features need enhancement.""When you add a new DNS record instructing the solution to map one thing to another, it has to propagate to all the networks, which takes some time.""When we are looking at the model registry, it may be not clear sometimes. For example, if you use a single grid model and group or registry, it has a different SDK in the pilot. And it may be not so comfortable to use both of them because it is two different places for keeping things in order.""The platform is more complicated to learn than one of its competitors.""The cost calculator for determining the cost of Route 53 is a little bit obscure.""It may not always be easy to integrate with on-premise infrastructure, especially with the complexity of the resolver and other factors involved. Improvements could be made to enhance the ability to integrate seamlessly.""The product could improve its price.""Supporting DNS check is one feature missing in the solution."

More Amazon Route 53 Cons →

"Its reliability and the response time of the support team can be better.""Something on our end that might make it better is alerting going to our ticketing system. It's not something that we have discussed, but that would be a proactive option for us to provide a learning experience for the staff.""Cisco Umbrella should introduce an on-premises device.""The pricing could always be a little bit better.""I would like for them to continue building on IPS and IDS functionalities.""If the security issues are taken care of it would be better.""I'd like to see improvement in its overall integration with all the other platforms. There's some integration between Umbrella and Meraki, but an overall Cisco problem is that there are so many different tools, and finding easy, seamless ways of connecting everything together is always a challenge.""I would like them to make some videos, practical videos, the kind with steps that people can use to learn and deploy"

    Reviews from Real Users

Cisco Umbrella stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Some of the major ones are its DNS-based protection, ability to protect users no matter where they are located, stability, and high performance.

Daniel B., a network specialist at Syswind Kft, writes, “We primarily use the solution as cloud security for our branches. It protects us from direct internet outbreaks. It makes for good flexibility. The solution is very easy to manage. We found the initial setup, for example, to be quite simple. Efficient protection on the DNS level and even higher. The sandboxing feature analyses and handles the complicated security risks.”

Victor M., SOC & Security Services Director at BEST, notes, “It provides security for the remote workers and it helps to improve enterprise security in a very easy way. We mainly enjoy web software protection capabilities. It prevents the end-users from getting into bad sites or sites that potentially could have malware or could be phishing. It helps end-users avoid the wrong sites. The solution works very smoothly. The user interface is good.”
