We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I use the tool in projects as a medium to provide information as reports to the stakeholders.""I really like the entire system for auto-labeling content. It's a very refined system. I use the Keyword Query Language to define refined string-based metadata, and then I can really go deep into the specific data with the specific properties labeled in such and such a way.""Microsoft Purview is scalable.""My favorite Purview feature is auto-scanning. Once we set up Purview, we can automatically scan multiple data sources when new data comes into specific databases, like SQL and Oracle. We don't need to rediscover the new data or do anything manually because it automatically happens.""The audit log has been a lifesaver for a lot of reasons. Historically, when using SaaS products, there were always questions about how the audit was going and whether we were sufficient out of the box. Purview has many capabilities available through centralized reporting that provide a view of a specific segment.""Microsoft Purview's most valuable feature is its ability to identify content across a number of prescribed regulatory frameworks, including Microsoft, GDPR, PII, and UCC Financial.""The cataloging tool is definitely the most valuable... It tells you about all the data you have in your tables, which helps people understand our data. We now know what data we have.""The ability to classify data quickly and effortlessly is arguably Microsoft Purview's most valuable feature."

"The stability has been great.""Veritas Data Insight has been instrumental in managing and categorizing data across our storage repository. The tool identifies valuable business data and distinguishes it from non-essential data. This capability empowers us to separate and exclude unnecessary data from our long-term retention strategy. Its valuable feature is alert mitigation.""The most valuable features of Veritas Data Insight are the ease of use, one console deployment for the administration, and backups that can be done in minutes. It is a very fast solution.""Data Insight is a good product to do everything. It is kind of transparent to administrators. It is also a very good solution with regards to GDPR compliance and regulations. Veritas is a well-established company, and it has a long legacy. Veritas solutions have expected stability and flexibility. It supports most of the flexible solutions in the market and has support for data protection, data monitoring, and things like that. In these ransomware times, it is a very important company with good solutions."

Cons
"I would like to have AI functionality on the dashboard to help me analyze and report on the data that we capture using Purview on a daily basis.""We have had a lot of issues since we moved to Unified Support. There have been work gaps there, and we believe they fixed them, but we need to make sure that they are going to be sustainable. It is to be seen.""There are negatives to the compliance aspect of Purview in that you get a lot of false positives with some of the native scanning and rules in the platform. A lot of them need tweaking to get a more realistic handle on what data there is.""While Microsoft Purview currently allows weekly scans for data sources, this limitation hinders the usefulness of the tool for frequently changing data.""Purview's data loss prevention for macOS endpoints has some limitations, and the end-user experience of recovering from a failure is lacking.""The API needs some improvement when connecting to non-Microsoft API sources. This is a limiting factor.""I would like to have complete video documentation for training.""Two features are unsupported—custom insights and the DLP component—that would be beneficial to me as a consultant and for the customer in terms of security and monitoring. Regarding security, DLP would provide a more granular level of data masking. Custom insights would offer more detailed monitoring and alerts that can notify customers of failures or anything requiring urgent action."

"Its deployment can be a little bit complex. It should be easier to set up. The ease of use of this solution can also be improved, and it could have a cleaner, up-to-date, and intuitive GUI. There are a lot of competitors out there with much nicer GUI and easier setup. It should have a better connection with the cloud sources and much more monitoring. I would like to have a single management interface for on-premises and cloud deployments so that we don't have to switch between them. Its technical support can also be a little bit better.""Veritas Data Insight can improve the price.""The solution is not lacking any features at this time.""The nature of both data processing and start processes often involves varying timeframes for retrieval, mainly dependent on the historical data being accessed. When the request involves pulling information from six months or two years ago, the process may take longer."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing is moderate. It's not too expensive, but it's not the most competitive."
  • "Microsoft Purview is the best option I have encountered when it comes to price. Maybe some of my information is outdated, but Microsoft offered it so that you could use it almost without paying."
  • "There is some competition out there, but the other solutions are quite expensive. They are enterprise tools that are a bit more mature but the license costs $100,000 for some of them. Purview is pay-per-use and a lot of companies are interested in that."
  • "Aside from the complexity of the pricing model, the price itself is realistic. Features like AI components and automatic classification require additional licenses. Still, anyone can start using Purview with a basic E3 license if they're using Microsoft 365 and grow with additional licenses as needed. Overall, we're satisfied with the price."
  • "Its pricing is good in terms of the features that they are providing, but there are many competitors in the market who can easily provide you with similar services at a lesser cost."
  • "The categorization within the licensing could be improved. There are a lot of solutions within Microsoft Purview. If the licensing could be a bit clearer and the solutions could be better categorized according to function and across multiple environments, that would be excellent. The licensing is very confusing."
  • "Price-wise, I think it's very generous and accessible to not just enterprises but small to medium-sized companies as well. I think it's very fair in terms of how they break apart the storage and the actual computing, and that makes it very accessible. So, that is a very big plus for Purview."
  • "Some people find the tier licensing system complicated, but it offers a lot of value for money if we use the features."

  • "Licensing is based on the number of users or the usage in terabytes."
  • "It is my understanding that the license with one year of support is, per user, around 25 Euros."
  • "The price of Veritas Data Insight could improve, it is expensive."
  • "For Veritas Data Insight, the usage is based on a per-terabyte model. The annual cost for this usage is approximately one million dollars. It would be roughly 50,000 dollars to provide a more accurate equivalent."
