Zerto offers excellent data protection, and it’s easy to create VMs. Nakivo could benefit from improvements in its remote upgrade capabilities, SNMP features, and application backup. Users say Zerto users also like its real-time replication features. Zerto could improve cloud environment configuration, PowerShell scripting, and multi-site replication.

  • Service and Support: Nakivo's support is praised for being quick, considerate, and attentive. Customers have generally had positive experiences with Zerto's customer service, noting their quick response times and ability to resolve issues. I""The product is very scalable, robust, has an easy setup with a short-duration deployment and good technical support.""The VM Backup Verification is one of the features I appreciate the most.""This enables us to do quick granular file recovery as and when required but also to do whole-site relocation in the case of a total loss scenario."

"We own another solution called VMware Site Recovery Manager, SRM. We have licenses for our entire environment and we still decided not to use it. That's how big the difference was in the experience that Zerto provides.""It's the easiest to use.""The file restoration is very helpful. They've improved it over the years to make it a lot more user-friendly and easy to do, which I appreciate. So, we use that quite a bit. The failover process is quite simple and intuitive. Even the configuration and setup are pretty easy to do. It is pretty easy to use. I've done the restoration of servers several times, not as a disaster. When an upgrade on a server goes wrong and it messes things up, I can just fail back to a previous version and try it again. So, that has been really helpful.""Managing the system is easy and reliable, you can choose any VM you want to replicate to your DR Site in Combination with other VM's.""We now have the ability to replicate critical data to a secure, off-site location that can be brought back in seconds if needed.""The near-synchronous replication is one of the primary reasons we're using Zerto because we have recovery intervals of sub-five seconds. On a scale of 10, where 10 is "very important", this feature is a 10.""Zerto is truly inspiring.""Using Zerto for the migration was incredibly valuable, enabling us to save tremendous amounts of time."

Cons
"The first implementation is a bit difficult but once is up and running is rock solid and extremely easy to manage.""I would like to have the option of creating a subfolder per job in the backup repository because we had an issue where some files were corrupted and we lost the backup of the majority of the VMs.""I need no more valuable features for backs-up. I have not yet tried the latest release, however, I have all the features that I need.""An improvement would be to give us more control over the email alerts, with different emails going to different addresses based on a set of rules.""In terms of what could be improved for the next release, I would probably answer better documentation and licensing models.""It would be helpful to be able to have a custom footprint so that only the required features are installed.""We would like to back up File Shares to Amazon S3/Wasabi.""They need a better knowledge base with more information about support issues."

More NAKIVO Backup & Replication Cons →

"The technical support is hit or miss.""It would be nice if we were able to purchase single licenses for Zerto. As it is now, scaling requires that we purchase a multi-pack.""I had a couple of questions after deployment, but nothing major, about a couple of ways I could tweak it.""I would like to request better reporting in Zerto. I can see the data that I need in the console, but if I need to put the data or the history into a report, it is difficult. It is something that auditors might require, so reporting is something that needs to be improved.""We would like more mobile options. If we are at a restaurant or out and about in our normal daily lives, we would like to be able to interface via our mobiles.""It is difficult to manage failing over between sites if you are at the site that was impacted.""Whenever we do a failover, there's a confirmation box that shows up later. It's a little hard to see sometimes... A popup to continue would be a little bit better because then you're not sitting and waiting for something and it's already there.""The biggest improvement would be exporting VPGs and a configuration of VPGs, as well as increasing or improving their IP customization rule set."

    Overview

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is an all-inclusive data protection solution designed to ensure the availability, safety, and integrity of critical data across various environments, including VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, AWS EC2, physical servers, and workstations. The platform offers a comprehensive suite of features tailored to meet the needs of IT professionals and business executives alike, ensuring robust data protection strategies that are both efficient and cost-effective.

    Comprehensive Data Protection

NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides a wide array of features, including backup, replication, recovery, and failover for virtual, physical, and cloud environments. This ensures that businesses can protect their data across multiple platforms, reducing the risk of data loss and ensuring continuity in the face of various threats.

Enhanced Efficiency with Deduplication and Compression

The solution employs advanced deduplication and compression technologies to minimize storage requirements and optimize backup speeds. This not only reduces the storage footprint and costs but also accelerates backup and recovery processes, ensuring that businesses can quickly bounce back from data loss incidents.

    Flexible Deployment Options

NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers a variety of deployment options, including installation on Windows or Linux servers, deployment as a pre-configured virtual appliance, or running directly on NAS devices. This flexibility ensures that organizations can choose the deployment method that best suits their infrastructure and operational preferences.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication stands out as a versatile and reliable data protection solution, offering a comprehensive set of features designed to meet the complex demands of modern IT environments. By combining robust performance, ease of use, and cost-efficiency, it provides businesses of all sizes with the tools they need to protect their critical data assets, ensuring business continuity and compliance with data protection regulations.

Zerto, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, specializes in data protection and empowers customers to run a business by simplifying the protection, disaster recovery, and mobility of on-premises and cloud applications. Zerto uses advanced hybrid cloud IT technologies to recover and protect business-critical applications in on-premises and cloud environments, enabling them to deliver continuous service without compromising security. Zerto’s foundation is based on continual data protection (CDP) technology. Users can benefit from a single, unified, and automated recovery and data management experience across all virtualized or container-based workloads.

Zerto's native clustering technology creates a resilient, fault-tolerant system that automates recovery of critical virtual machines while supporting software updates, new OS releases, and upgrades. With native clustering, a creation, migration, or deletion of a virtual machine is automatically replicated to all nodes in the cluster. This creates an automated failover and availability solution with the features of high-end dedicated servers running at a fraction of the cost.

      Zerto Features

Zerto has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

      • Continuous data security
        • Continuous replication
        • The industry's lowest RPOs and fastest RTOs
        • App and database protection and recovery on a granular level
      • Agility across hybrid and multi-cloud
        • Protection between clouds
        • Simple on-premises to cloud migration
        • User-friendly native cloud services
      • Simple to scale
        • Automation and orchestration are built-in
        • Cross-platform, multi-site analytics
        • Unified experience regardless of cloud
      • Software-based
        • Hardware, hypervisor, and cloud are all independent
        • No physical appliances
        • Future-proof

      Zerto Benefits

      • Robust disaster recovery: Continuous data protection enables recovery of entire clusters, multi-VM applications, or even a single server with the lowest RPOs and fastest RTOs. Zerto allows users to safeguard, manage, and recover all of their key digital assets, whether they’re recovering to a secondary location, the public cloud, or a managed service provider.
      • Constant backup: Instead of making backups every 12 or 24 hours, Zerto creates backups every 5-15 seconds. Zerto backup has no impact on production and eliminates the burden of micromanaging backup windows by using CDP instead of snapshots. Its backup provides immediate recovery of data, folders, or virtual machines (VMs) that are only seconds behind the original, which is a simple approach to completely avoid ransomware or erase inadvertent deletions.
      • Strong long-term retention: Send data to the cloud or a purpose-built storage appliance of your choice for months or years of retention. These long-term copies can be made from local backups or DR replicas, and they can be kept wherever is most convenient for your company. Its powerful indexing and search makes discovering and restoring data simple. For data you want to maintain but only use infrequently, use cost-effective cloud tiering to shift LTR copies from hot to cold to deep-freeze storage.

      Reviews from Real Users

Zerto stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its disaster recovery abilities and its ease of use. PeerSpot users take note of the advantages of these features in their reviews:

Justin C., Director of IT at Arnott Inc. writes of the solution, “If we had to deal with a ransomware event, Zerto would be one of the first things I would use, because it is going to be the fastest to restore data to a certain point. If there were a fire in our building, Zerto would be a big thing too, because we would shut down everything that's in our building… It's definitely going to be one of our prevalent DRBC layers of protection."

Brad W., Vice President of Information Technology at a financial services firm, notes, “The file restoration is very helpful. They've improved it over the years to make it a lot more user-friendly and easy to do, which I appreciate. So, we use that quite a bit. The failover process is quite simple and intuitive. Even the configuration and setup are pretty easy to do.”
