We performed a comparison between Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches and Cisco Catalyst Switches based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two LAN Switching solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."These OmniSwitches are very manageable and easy to configure."
"OmniSwitch LAN Switches' performance is very good."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of configuration."
"One of the main advantages of the solution is that the configuration is straightforward, offering various configuration options through CLI or web interfaces. I'm satisfied with the customer service and support. The solution is good and people should know about it."
"With Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches everything comes from one vendor. It operates very smoothly."
"I rate the technical support an eight or a nine out of ten. So far, they've been very professional and helpful, especially when we need to raise a case for any issue."
"One good feature is UPOE. Another is having a built-in controller, the customer doesn't have to ask for another controller. For example, you get a built-in controller with the C650. And two-port is one of the premium factors from Cisco."
"The solution is stable."
"It has the ability to create new services for users, such as IP phones and video conference."
"The ability to configure throughput is very flexible and improved the performance of our systems."
"It is an infrastructure tool, so it is just providing a backend service. Its most useful feature is that it operates on a regular basis. It is reliable."
"Stability. We have many Catalyst switches now, and they work without any downtime."
"We haven't needed to contact technical support because we haven't had any issues so far."
"The most valuable feature is load balancing."
"n general, the way the product is put together is not well done."
"There is no OEM support in India so RMAs need to be sent to France, which takes a long time if the hardware is faulty."
"A customer expressed dissatisfaction with the color of the switches, preferring black over the current color, which is close to white. While the color is not a personal concern, my earlier preference was for all products to be extendable in one large stack since some equipment limits stacking to four elements instead of eight."
"There are some issues with the network firmware being deleted from the switches."
"I would like to see better third-party integration with third-party systems."
"The only drawback I saw with Cisco Catalyst Switches is that it's not cloud-managed."
"Their price should be improved. They are a little bit expensive."
"Its initial setup can be simpler, and it would be great if we can work with a reference architecture. Cisco has the capability to provide a very integrated solution. They have DNA Center, Cisco ISE, Cisco Prime, FMC, and AMP. We are looking at all the products, but it is rather complex to pick out the right licenses that you need. The license structure is a bit complex. Sometimes, there is an overlap in products, which does not really make sense. For example, you have DNA Center and Cisco Prime, and it is not really clear what you would use for what exactly. There is a lot of information on the Cisco website, but it takes a while to go through all this and look at the presentations that are available from Cisco Live. These presentations are appreciated, but sometimes, they are a bit too much like bullet points. You don't exactly know what's behind it, so you have to do a second guess. Overall, there is a lot of information but not always to the point."
"It is not easy for everyone to configure the product's initial setup part, making it an area where improvements are required."
"The addition of more security and privilege levels to Cisco Catalyst Switches is required as it is one of the areas with certain shortcomings."
"The solution could improve by allowing administrators to create scripts to help automate processes to make tasks easier."
"The support team’s response and resolution time must be faster."
"I would like to see better compatibility between Cisco and other vendors."
