We performed a comparison between Amazon S3 Glacier and Microsoft Azure Block Storage based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Public Cloud Storage Services solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The main advantage of Glacier is its low cost. It is incredibly cheaper than other storage options, especially for objects you don't access frequently. Glacier would add value if you have a staging area for objects you only need to access occasionally. Since we have data in terabytes between S3 buckets, we can significantly reduce our storage and cost footprint by using Glacier."
"We save money with the product."
"The solution is great for storing data you don't usually need access to. It's also well-integrated with Amazon S3."
"The product automatically replicates objects from a S3 bucket in one region to another bucket in a different region."
"Amazon S3 Glacier is a stable and scalable solution."
"The solution is easy to use."
"The solution is secure."
"AWS does support the ability for user controlled movement of data between regions for business continuance (BC), high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR)."
"This is a very robust and flexible solution."
"The initial setup for the production areas was on premise, which is very simple."
"The product’s security features are valuable."
"Azure Block Storage lets you customize code you can use on that endpoint. If you want to write a logic for something, Azure Function can be used to deploy that application."
"The tool is pretty easy to use."
"The most helpful features of Microsoft Azure Block Storage are the many use cases. Additionally, it can be locked down well and has two-factor authentication."
"It has capabilities such as versioning and, from a security point of view, you can also back it up."
"The tier feature in V2 is the most valuable feature of this solution. It enables you to move your storage from hot tier to cold tier into archive tier."
"Billing issues can be a nightmare. It's tough reaching the right person to get them sorted out."
"Their pricing structure is always a big topic. It's so difficult to understand."
"There is room for improvement in handling GDPR compliance better. GDPR is about personal data protection and retention. It would be great if S3 Glacier could handle compliance items related to this, especially with upcoming legislation like the California law, which restricts data storage time and allows users to request data deletion."
"The pricing is a bit expensive. There is room for improvement in costs."
"The technical support has room for improvement."
"The stability must be improved."
"They can improve data discovery."
"The product needs to improve cloud security."
"The cache issue needs to be addressed to ensure that the correct file is downloaded, especially when it's done manually into the local storage."
"The tool could be cheaper."
"We don't delete the other tools from the folder directly. There's no folder deletion option in Azure Block Storage. It would be nice if they could update this."
"The implementation can be quite technical."
"One of the biggest challenges on Azure infrastructure is that sometimes we don't get what we want. Either we have to wait for it or contact support because something is not working for us... It's the system availability that is the difficult point."
"I have used Amazon's solutions which are better than Microsoft's. However, since I have predominately Microsoft solutions it is a better choice for me to use another Microsoft solution."
"Uploading of data could be improved. Currently, the only way you can upload your data is by using their storage explorer. You need to use a command line to do that. Then, maybe you can go online and you can use their explorer to check to see if it's there. If they had a third-party application to handle the upload, it would be better. Many people aren't familiar with command lines for uploading data. It makes it more difficult for many users."
"The user interface is very difficult."
