We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Scheduling is a good feature.""It is really a robust product.""It has improved my organization through automation of back office and infrastructure procedures, and by integrating and orchestrating key business applications spanning multiple technology stacks.""It is an object-based approach to task and process design in conjunction with conditional logic and event-based scheduling actions, which enables a build once/use often design methodology to be employed.""The interface is good.""We have a lot of nightly jobs that need to be run. Therefore, we perform a lot of calculations and processes during nighttime hours.""The solution is very user friendly so anyone can use it.""The automated solution is the most valuable piece. Otherwise, we would have to be doing everything manually on every server."

"We use the solution for cross-platform, cross-application workloads. The solution’s ability to manage and monitor these workloads is very easy and accurate. We have file dependencies for running jobs. The job does not start until a file exists on a completely different server, then where the job will run. So, it is cross systems.""The versatility of being able to run on many different types of servers is valuable. There is also a versatility of different services that you could run jobs on. It's highly versatile. You can run a lot of different types of scripts on a lot of different types of servers. It interfaces with all of them.""Tidal Workload Automation Software provides the ability to quickly adapt to changing business requirements.""Tidal helps administrators and users to see the information that is relevant to them in that single pane of glass. They can see jobs running, they can see job history, and they can see job progression. If you look at alternatives like Airflow and clouds, you'd have to design your own UI to monitor the progress of the different jobs that you've created in Airflow. So Tidal is huge for us.""We use the solution for cross-platform, cross-application workloads. That's the biggest use for us and that's the biggest advantage.""It's easy to use and easy to administer, and it's very flexible.""Tidal Automation allows organizations to automate complex workflows and processes, reducing the need for manual intervention and improving operational efficiency.""The most valuable feature is the job scheduler, where you can schedule thousands of jobs to execute at specific times."

Cons
"It is difficult to integrate with the Active Directory (AD).""It has been a deprecated product, because it is so old. There has been a couple of new solutions that are a little more advanced.""The internal security model can be complex when configuring multiple user groups.""The scalability could improve.""As a general process automation and integration tool, it has been superseded by other offerings, notably the Workload Automation suite.""Reporting, forecasting and intelligence could be improved.""We are looking for additional features that would allow us to call APIs and integrate the product with other tools more effectively.""The graphical interface is pretty cool but not the best so it could use some improvement."

More AppWorx Workload Automation Cons →

"Tidal Automation could be further integrated with other systems used in the operation of tidal energy systems, such as weather forecasting tools, energy management systems, or asset management software.""The GUI, the graphical user interface, gets a little bit busy.""The job failure alerts can be updated with more details for better troubleshooting.""The current user interface of Tidal Software is functional. However, it can be improved to make it more intuitive and user-friendly.""My complaint about their pricing model is that every year or every time technology changes or somebody has a new requirement, it usually means that I can schedule that with Tidal, but I would need another adapter. So, every time there is a change, I need a different adapter that I don't have. That's why it is harder to plan for Tidal growth because you have to buy a new adapter every time.""One of the weaknesses of the product is, when something happens, it's difficult to find out the root cause. There are a lot of logs you can take a look at in Tidal. Sometimes, they are useful, but other times, they're not. That is mostly relegated to the administrative team. Users for the most part don't see that and don't know anything about that. They just know they have a problem, then it's up to the administrative team to see what happened and figure out the problem.""I know they are working on it, but there needs to be better reporting. Currently, there are only three or four reports that we can get off of the system. That needs to be improved. They already have a solution to this in the new version. I.e., a schedule of all the jobs running for one day, specifically calling out what dependencies that job relies on. It would be like a flow chart of how the day's jobs would run.""It takes a lot of time to learn the product. I have admins and developers who are working on the products for the last three to four years and still don't know all the functionalities. Tidal has really great things about it, but people are focused on their day-to-day job and the solution is not intuitive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Licensing options are fairly straightforward."
  • "We are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "The price for annual licenses is a bit expensive so pricing is rated a two out of ten."
  • "The cost model is based on the number of orchestrated systems used."
  • More AppWorx Workload Automation Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The new prices that we've received seem reasonable and comparable to the marketplace."
  • "We pay maintenance annually through Blue House of about $9,000. That's for our two environments: production and test."
  • "The pricing is pretty reasonable. That seems to help a lot versus other companies. There are no other fees aside from the standard licensing fees. There are other products out there where you pay based on how many jobs you run and so on, and I know that's very frustrating for users."
  • "The solution’s licensing model in terms of its flexibility and transparency regarding costs is pretty good. A person can buy the license, and if you decide to stop support, you can do that but still have the product. So, it's not like you're paying constantly to keep that license alive. Certainly, you want to keep support going too. Once you buy it, you own it. It's not like I have to keep paying somebody to keep using it."
  • "If you are willing to shop around to other vendors, you can possibly get a good price on your support license."
  • "Our annual maintenance cost is competitive for what we have and what they do."
  • "There are project, system, and server costs. Some of the things that they are doing is introducing new products. They are introducing what they call their Repository, which is a way for you to move a job. That doesn't cost anything to us, because it is reusing a tool called Transporter. The repository is the successor to Transporter, so we already own it and are sort of grandfathered in. But that new product requires a server and database, so now we have to go out and get a server and database. So, there is a cost there."
  • "...it is a pretty affordable scheduler tool that lets us do a lot. You get a lot of bang for the buck... The licensing model is hugely flexible."

    Overview

AppWorx Workload Automation automates your Ellucian’s Banner or Fiserv DNA processing. This innovative, best-in-class task scheduling solution accelerates your processing, provides visibility and control over business processes, and mitigates risk in both environments.

    AppWorx Workload Automation Can:

    • Automate banner processes without writing scripts
    • Automate testing
    • Document process flows and procedures
    • Maintain a history and audit trail of production runs
    • Automate migration from development to test to production environments
    • Reduce training
    • Eliminate human errors associated with manual tasks

Benefits of AppWorx Workload Automation For Your Ellucian’s Banner

    • Automate recurring business processes, such as administration and record-keeping, while complying with state and federal reporting requirements.
    • Batch jobs are processed accurately.
    • If there are any inconsistencies or job failures, Automic for Banner immediately sends email notifications to the appropriate personnel.
    • Significantly improve your return on investment.
    • Automating batch processing and report generation.
    • Eliminating server overload by using a combination of features (AppWorx provides queues to control the number of jobs that can be submitted to a server at any given time, can spot duplicate runs of the same reports, and can delay impromptu reports submitted by individuals until all regularly scheduled reports are processed, etc.).
    • Eliminates the need for developers to write shell, PERL, or batch scripts to automate scheduling.
    • Automatically keeps a history of every job run, the parameters that were used, and the output generated at each step. These records are readily available for viewing online and can be printed for reference.
    • Export and import utilities make migration an error-free, repeatable process. Database logins, printers, and libraries can be mapped when you are moving process flows to a new environment. Mapping eliminates potentially erroneous code changes.

Benefits of AppWorx Workload Automation For Your Fiserv DNA Processing

    • Run DNA jobs directly, eliminating the need to copy and release queues for each batch cycle.
    • Automatically run DNA jobs at the optimum time using sophisticated scheduling.
    • Run multiple DNA jobs at the same time in parallel from one batch station.
    • Eliminate potential data entry errors by automatically retrieving parameters from your enterprise databases.
    • Automatically check the results from one step to ensure data integrity before continuing to the next step.
    • Alert production analysts to problems the instant they occur.
    • Coordinate processing steps across all software applications.
    • Automatically distribute output files to vendors.
    • Perform all operations from one GUI client.
