We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"For our company's customers, I feel that the product is stable.""XenDesktop has helped our users to work remotely with a better user experience.""Citrix Virtual Apps is the most valuable feature. Many customers use this feature to publish only applications, and not the full desktop. They can publish the internal resource or allow the end-user to reach a site or an application without having the full desktop. That's why they love this feature. It helps them save on resources.""XenApp is a fast, secure and reliable solution for remote connections that is completely different than and superior to older Windows solutions.""The most valuable feature of the solution is the desktop virtualization, which allows me to connect from anywhere.""It is user-friendly and easy to use.""In terms of scalability, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops have a lot of technologies baked in there that allow an organization to scale up or down, as required. Further, leveraging Azure for scalability has added value to our organization. For example, pre-COVID-19, we had very few resources in Azure. We had some Virtual Desktops and no application servers. When COVID-19 came along, we knew people were going to be home. We knew that we had to ramp up very quickly. We fully leveraged MCS to be able to scale. Being able to take a single image and build 400,000 Virtual Desktops, all within minutes, was second to none in terms of any other technology out there that we could have used. The scalability to be able to do that in Azure, where we really don't have to worry about storage and compute power because Microsoft does that for us, was fantastic. It was almost like giving our environments steroids. It has been amazing in terms of that scalability. Now, as people start coming back to the office, we can just as quickly scale down so the compute and resource costs in Azure aren't so great anymore.""We can provide tons of applications with different settings, behaviors, and operating systems. It is the same way for the user. Then, we are totally transparent for the user to use a lot of totally different applications, which is the most important part of Citrix today."

"The solution's technical support team is excellent.""The most valuable feature of VMware Player is the ability to snapshot with or without memory.""VMware Player's best feature is the ability to run different OS's simultaneously.""It's really easy to build testing environments with VMware Player.""VMware Player helps you to virtualize and install Ubuntu or any other operating system, even on a Windows laptop."

Cons
"Citrix's functionality depends on you having access to Microsoft Azure. Microsoft offers a broad range of features and solutions. Overall, it may make sense for some users to move all their services to Microsoft services.""Templating the deployment process could use improvement. When you start, there are a large number of details that are quite client-specific, although they do share common themes. To get somebody up and running in a day is very difficult to do. They should streamline by use case.""Pricing can be lower and roaming profiles need to be fixed to work consistently.""When I needed support for a couple of things, three people intervened. Each time, three people gave me a different answer. In the end, they did not manage to give the right answer. At a certain point, they stopped replying.""The product advances really fast. For some customers, we need better backwards compatibility.""Citrix should consolidate the multiple tools currently required into a single platform.""Using the app layering feature can be quite difficult and cumbersome.""In the bank, a major part of all our applications is Microsoft App-V. If App-V is at end of life, then we need a new technology to replace it. As of today, I haven't seen in Citrix Studio that there is a new technology embedded directly in it to replace App-V."

More Citrix DaaS (formerly Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service) Cons →

"Its networking features need improvement.""When you go to work on a server, it opens up the whole window, and that causes an error inside VMware Player.""VMware Player isn't downgradable, so if you have a later set of VMs, you need to upgrade it or figure out a workaround.""VMware Player should provide a cloud version with no limitations to hardware resources.""The tool has limited scalability."

VMware Player, or VMware Player Plus, is described by VMware as the easiest way to run a virtual machine on Windows or Linux PCs in a commercial environment. If you want to deliver a managed desktop to your employees, customers, students, contractors, or partners, then this virtual desktop solution is the way to go.

VMware Player provides the most advanced virtualization platform available, which is capable of supporting even extremely demanding applications. Even though the platform is so advanced, the user interface is simple and easy-to-use.

There is seamless integration with Windows XP and Windows XP applications even if the machine itself is a Windows 7 PC, a Windows 8 PC, or even Linux-based. It also gives your IT person the capability of restricting the virtual machines by requiring runtime passwords, adding an expiration date, blocking USB devices, or encrypting the machines. By using VMware vCenter Converter, VMware Player can even convert old machines into virtual machines without you needing to re-configure or re-install any applications.
