We performed a comparison between Dell SC Series and Huawei OceanStor based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two All-Flash Storage solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance."
"The solution is scalable."
"It has benefited my organization because it has reduced time to insights."
"The latency is good."
"The duplication algorithm allows us to get a lot more use out of less storage. We're running a five terabyte array right now and we're running probably about 30 terabytes on it. So the duplication rate is pretty phenomenal, without a cost to performance. It still runs pretty smoothly."
"Offers excellent features like efficient data reduction, a reliable SafeMode, and a great support model for continuous assistance and updates."
"Pure FlashArray X NVMe has low latency and high Ops. It is an evergreen model."
"The Pure1 component is most valuable at this point in time when comparing it with EMC. Pure1 is where you can have your diagnostics in the cloud, so you can look at things from your mobile phone."
"It is fast and performs well."
"Most valuable features have been the system customization with it, the performance you receive, and their CoPilot Support (or Dell EMC Storage Support)."
"Everything is sub-5 MS for us. What I've found is that, with all-flash, when an app from my business is slow, I pretty much know it's them and not me. It leads to a performance conversation that has really hit an interesting threshold point where we are better than what they need. So now we get to have that "refactoring your application" conversation a lot quicker because now the performance on the infrastructure side isn't in question anymore."
"They have a feature called Live Migrate; it's been very, very useful."
"A valuable feature is the performance of the auto-tiering. It will move hot data up to your fastest Tier 1 or move your slow data down. Data progression is what it's called. With the auto-tiering you can have multiple tiers, you can have your Tier 1 be either spinning or flash, all the way down to 7.2K. It will change the RAID on the fly so your writes come in at RAID 10. After they sit for a while, they get converted to RAID 5, then they'll cool off and move down the tiers. Your performance is kept going, while the cold data is moved to your slow, non-performance tiers."
"The setup is straightforward."
"We replicate between SAN to SAN for a lot of features and supportability. It also helps us when we want to upgrade to a newer SC Series or move the data from one data center to another."
"The most valuable feature is the speed for the end-user."
"Its technical support team is helpful."
"The support is excellent."
"Huawei OceanStor is a good product. Its interface is very simple. The complexities we encounter with recovery points are gone. We just attach to remote storage, click the application, and it starts."
"The solution has improved our organization by speeding up our operations."
"The pricing is very reasonable."
"The most valuable feature of Huawei OceanStor is the hybrid applications."
"Huawei OceanStor is stable."
"Stability: The product is designed to have always HA (High Availability) with redundant network and processors."
"If the customer only needs 500 terabytes and doesn't care how much data they'll put in the server, IBM is cheaper than Pure."
"Our use cases require more multi-tenant capabilities and additional VLAN interfaces for separating different customers. We currently use it to provide storage, sometimes shared storage, to different customers, but it is less flexible in comparison to a dedicated solution."
"We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI."
"We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency."
"It is on the expensive side."
"I'd like to see the product implement active replication for vehicles such as VMware."
"In the next release, I would like to see real-time analytics for further insight into consumption models."
"The software layer has to improve."
"While the scalability is good, there are certain limitations."
"The price could be improved."
"From a performance point of view, it's getting a bit old."
"While the price is competitive, in the next release it would be better if they could reduce the fees."
"The administration and support (on the way that they delivered) was a little bit slow."
"Compellent comes in the form of a component that's not true of a unified storage platform."
"This product should be a lot more user-friendly."
"I would like to see higher compression, dedupe, faster I/O, and bigger drives."
"The solution’s reporting could be improved."
"Could have a more stable, lighter Metro and better logging system."
"I would like to see more iterations and direct integration with other solutions."
"Unfortunately, this product doesn't support Flash Disks, but it's IOPS capacity is a great compromise."
"The tool's performance is slow for DBs. We plan to move from Huawei OceanStor to Pure Storage. Its customer service is not good."
"Technical support could be more helpful."
"Huawei OceanStor should work on its saturation level and should be able to take up more load. It should give the same performance that it gives at 20 or 30 percent load for 80 percent as well."
"I would like to see the next generation all-flash, which could be combined."
