Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Overall security features and performance routing is good.""All of the features of Fortinet FortiGate are useful and the security protection is good.""Easy to implement, and it is also reliable.""A strong point of FortiGate is that the graphical interface is complete and easy to use, especially if we think there is a list of operations that we are able to perform inside.""The most valuable feature is the FortiManager for centralized management.""It is very flexible to use.""User-friendly and affordable security solution that's recommended for SMB customers. This solution has good technical support.""The IPsec tunnels are very easily created, and quite interoperable with devices from other vendors."

"The information security features are the most valuable.""The most valuable features are the intrusion prevention system and the anti-virus.""A good network security system for medium-sized businesses with an excellent GUI interface that gives a graphic view of network status.""The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiOS are the ease of use and user-friendly interface.""The customer service and support team are excellent.""The solution is very user friendly.""We have expanded the wireless access point and switches using Fortinet FortiOS.""Firewall and overall management are valuable features."

"Monitors workstations and servers for vulnerabilities and creates reports.""The prioritization feature is great. I think it has all of the advanced features that we need.""The most valuable feature of Qualys Container Security is the detailed information in the reports and the remediation. This is done to make sure there are no vulnerabilities.""Intuitive and easy to use.""There are many features. Its reliability, ease of installation, ease of use, and the richness of the information provided are the most valuable features.""I find Qualys VM very robust, and it's very useful for vulnerability management and patch management. The value that it brings to my environment is economies of scale. There is no limitation on adding any endpoints. You go by the rule, and it's added once another endpoint is added to our environment. It's automatically installed, and it's less work from our end. It frees up my license automatically if I don't need an endpoint or if my machine is decommissioned. I like the dashboard displays because I don't see any duplication. The most important part is vulnerability management and prioritization. Unlike Symantec, it shows the kind of vulnerability I would want to patch first. It provides a holistic view of the kind of vulnerabilities and the ones I should remediate first. I don't have to do a scan; it just brings up those critical kinds of vulnerabilities like zero-day vulnerabilities and tells me to prioritize them. You have to prioritize these vulnerabilities first and go on with the rest. The dashboard shows me the ones that have been fixed, so I don't have to complete an aging report. The user experience and the graphical interface are good. As it's user-friendly and understandable on an executive level, it brings real value. We also use this solution because it's robust and flexibile.""The most valuable feature is the certificate management.""The reporting functionality is great."

Cons
"They can do more tests before they release new versions because I would like to be more assured. We had some experiences where they release something new and great, but some of the old features are disabled or they don't work well, which impacts the product satisfaction. The manufacturer should be able to prove that everything works or not only that it might work. This is applicable to most of the other services, software, and hardware companies. They all should work on this. We cannot trust every new release, such as a beta release, on the first day. We wait for some comments on the forums and from other companies that we know. We always wait a few weeks before we use the updated version. They should also extend the VPN client application, especially for Linux versions. Currently, it has an application for Linux devices, but it doesn't work the way we want to connect to the VPN. They use only the old connection, not the new one. They have VPN client applications for Windows and Mac, but they can add more useful features to better manage the devices and monitor the current health of each device. Such features would be helpful for our company.""While FortiGate is cheaper than most other solutions, we're seeing increased license renewal costs. Most of our clients are asking for more significant discounts because the price is going up.""Improvement is needed in the Web Filter quotas to restrict users with allocated quotas.""Reporting is limited to providing an external appliance for improving the reporting capabilities of the FortiAnalyzer. It does not offer a central management and is also sold separably as an appliance.""It could use more templates for third-party site-to-site VPN setups other than FortiGate and Cisco.""I think the only issue that needs improvement is the interface.""Currently, FortiGate is providing SSL VPN. But they're missing some features that are available in Palo Alto's SSL VPN.""The support we receive when we need to upgrade is not satisfactory and has room for improvement."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"It should also manage the local DSCP network.""The GUI could be improved to make it more usable, easier to administer, and easier to configure.""We had assistance from one person from our local vendor for the implementation.""I would like to see fewer bugs. If you use the box with its basic features, the solution is straightforward and stable, but you can run into bugs when using newer features or in more complex use cases. They included a DNS filter as a new feature, and I had issues that required raising a ticket with customer support.""The additional features I would like to see included in the next release is better troubleshooting and reporting.""Fortinet's central management needs to be improved. FortiManager's technical tool provider ability should manage all Fortinet security products. Right now, FortiManager only manages the configuration of FortiGate.""I would like to see more statistics in the monitoring part.""Some features I have found to be hidden and cannot be accessed through the graphical user interface, you can only access them through the command-line interface(CLI). All the features should be accessible through the graphical user interface."

More Fortinet FortiOS Cons →

"Qualys VM should improve its methodology.""Sometimes we face a problem with accessing the tool and not getting an expected result. From a technology point of view, they need to look into this.""It would be nice to have an all-in-one solution that was automated and could handle the scanning and reports as well as the patching and updating.""The tool needs to improve the adding assets and report generation features. I would like to see the policy scan of offline appliances in the product's future releases.""The only improvement I can think of is on the implementation side. At times it is a bit slow.""Sometimes the scanning can get overwhelmed and start to drag when a lot of users are trying to scan at once.""Qualys could be improved in its overall performance compared to other vulnerability management or scanning tools.""I would like to see more accuracy in detections, better reporting capabilities, and better dashboard download capabilities."
