We performed a comparison between Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls and SonicWall NSa based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."It blocks the vulnerabilities that can negatively impact us."
"It's inexpensive compared to some of the other technology out there."
"It is a good source for firewall protection."
"FortiGate SD-WAN facilitated a smooth transition for our customers between their two internet service providers, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity without any downtime."
"The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiGate is security. They are known for efficiency and are on the top of Gartner Quadrant reviews. Fortinet FortiGate has an easy-to-use platform with a good graphical interface. The configuration is simple and the solution provides an overall good layer of security."
"The solution is very user friendly. The user interface in particular is quite nice."
"The web tutor and automatic rules by schedule are good features."
"A strong point of FortiGate is the graphical interface is complete and easy to use."
"Compared to other firewalls from Check Point, Fortinet, and Cisco, for example, Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls use the most advanced techniques. They have sandbox integration and others in the orchestrator. Palo Alto's security features are at a higher level than those of the competitors at the moment."
"This solution not only provides better security than flat VLAN segments but allows easy movement through the lifecycle of the server."
"The user experience is good and the configuration is very easy."
"The application awareness feature that recognizes application IDs and vulnerability protection are Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls' most valuable features."
"It's one of the best products I've worked with. It's typically a market leader on Gartner. It's a very respected brand."
"It has the typical features of a next-generation firewall. It can do application control, antivirus, content filtering, etc."
"The structure is much faster and more sophisticated than Cisco."
"The most valuable features are the power of the threat prevention and the WildFire service. Its strength comes from the huge number of sensors all over the world. The firewalls have a rich library of signatures."
"SonicWall NSA is easy to deploy, easy to maintain, and easy to configure."
"We have not found any vulnerabilities since implementing the solution."
"The most valuable feature of SonicWall NSa is the control aspect of the solution."
"This product has kept us safe and we haven't had any breaches."
"The filtering is excellent."
"It allows us to block applications, i.e., websites by application type category. It is far more capable than content filtering alone."
"The most valuable feature is the sandbox."
"Our old firewall was running as HA (High Availability) on two different but identical rack mounted servers. Moving to SonicWall allowed the company to move to one unit, yet accommodate more connections because it had sixteen ports and handled fail-over better than the old firewall solution."
"I'm not sure if it's something that they already have or are developing something, however, we need some dedicated features for container security."
"When we cluster the two Fortinet FortiGate boxes together we have some issues."
"We had some issues in the beginning while setting it up, but after doing the firmware update, it is working fine."
"Technical support needs to be improved."
"A couple of things I've seen that need improvement, especially in terms of a hard coding. The driver-level active moment really is out-of-the-box and we have to have contact the customer support and sometimes it is difficult to resolve."
"Technical support for this solution can be improved."
"Some configuration elements cannot be easily altered once created."
"The cloud management and automation capability could be improved."
"The areas that need to improve are network protection and user identification."
"As things are evolving, we want to make sure that Palo Alto is able to keep up with what is going on outside. They should continue to do more intelligence-related enhancements and integrate with some of the other security tools. We want to have a more intelligent toolset down the road."
"Palo Alto can do a little bit better when it comes to the User-ID part. I've been facing problems related to double authentication. You have a computer user, but you also have a VPN user, and when you do a single sign-on to another page, these logs can sometimes generate a problem notification. It doesn't happen a lot, but in some networks, it could be a problem. It would be very helpful to have the ability to restrict the connections that you can have in your VPN. For example, if you have the credentials, you can connect with the same user account from different computers or devices. If you have the domain information, you can connect from different devices. That's a problem that they need to address and resolve. They should ensure that at any moment, only one person is connected through a specific user account."
"I would like to see it provide us with intelligent information from the data that it captures, within the same cost."
"The whole performance takes a long time. It takes a long time to configure."
"Currently, they don't have email protection. They can maybe add it in the future. Currently, if you want to do so, you need to go with another solution."
"The scalability compared to other products is not good. You need to change the box whenever you want your number of connection sessions to increase."
"The price of the solution is very high."
"After-sales support and hands-on training facilities are not available in my country."
"The content ID needs to be improved."
"SonicWall NSa has occasional bugs, particularly during upgrades, and that's an area for improvement."
"It would be useful to have an application firewall that prevents the outside world from seeing your private IPs. You don't need to publicize your private IPs to the outside world, and you can create a barrier, like a proxy server."
"It doesn't require much improvement. The only improvement area is that cloud reporting, assessment reporting, and other reporting features should be available with the subscription. They should provide reporting features with the subscription base, which is currently not there. We bought the reporting tool, but there are some complications. They have made some changes to the application, and now the reporting management is completely on the cloud."
"We have security as a service, and they make recommendations about adding to the denylist and other things. That part could be more accessible and more user-friendly. I'd like to see SonicWall add a user-friendly interface where our internal team can drag and drop everything."
"I would like to see better integration."
"Vendor support needs improvement. The frequency of time and support should be increased."
