We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Another good thing is that we can create custom reports, which is great. If I created a custom report, a tile that tells me how many people have logged in today. We currently have a little under 2000 users, and that's only users, we actually have integrations, that we created a custom form that sends hours directly to Planview. They're not using Planview directly, but they're sending their hours to Planview through an API.""The solution’s integrated product portfolio has transformed our organization’s delivery because people are a lot more accountable. When you have no accountability, then people don't always deliver the way that you want them to. Once you get accountability, they know that somebody is watching and the way that they manage their work changes quite a bit.""We provided whatever feedback we had to the Planview team, and they went in and built those additional features that we requested. For example, they created a great way for our users to search for a specific resource, project, program, or role. We were not using some of the features, and we wanted them to not be visible, and they helped us with that. They also brought a feature to provide visibility into when a resource was never assigned to any task. There was no visibility to this before. This feature was really very good for visibility into the resource portfolio.""I like that the data that we store is available for everybody. We're not trying to hide anything. Being an administrator, I know a lot about the tool. It is very easy to show somebody how to use the tool and get used to it. Hopefully that user doesn't come back and ask the same question twice is really what it is about. It's a very intuitive product as well. For what we use the tool for today, it's easy to learn and pick up.""We have a fairly good picture of time tracking.""It gives us flexibility in configuring assignments. We can do both Agile Teams and non-Agile Teams. This flexibility affects our ability to meet our company's particular needs by allowing us to work in a hybrid model, some Agile Teams, and some non-Agile Teams.""The data is the most valuable because the reporting that we provide out of Planview is priceless when compared to any other tool. The reporting has a variety of reports. It has the capabilities of Power BI. It gives us all these dashboards that we can show to our executive leadership, and they have been very well-received.""The biggest impact has been the visibility into our IT assets."

"Clarizen's slide publisher is one of my favorite features.""Right from the initial steps, we found this product easy to use.""It simplifies the management of our day-to-day work and brings all our processes into a single place where we can plan our activities, monitor them, and take any actions accordingly.""I love the collaborative nature just from my role to help. I'm a strategist. I help manage those large strategic projects. Implementation is one significant piece of my role, but I love the collaboration that can exist within the tool.""Projectplace has excellent collaboration features, including some nice kanban boards. We use DocuSign, and Planview just integrated it into Projectplace, so that was helpful. And I like the fact that it links to Enterprise One, the other Planview tool that we use to manage our capital portfolio.""It is a complete solution. It is very useful for the management of our internal processes.""Planview Projectplace is a really good solution for document sharing and keeping track of the history of changes in the document. I also like that you can have everything you need for a project in one place, for example, for documentation, planning, and even resource planning.""The overall user interface is fantastic. It has been very easy to learn and use. Any non-technical person with some initial training can work on it from day one, which is very good. The learning material is very good and easy to learn. There is no need to spend additional money on the training."

Cons
"The financial piece of the tool could be better. While it may have to do with the complexity of the work that we do, it seems that the tool should be able to drill down a bit deeper into the financial area.""The number one thing that needs improvement is the UI. It should be easy for a casual project manager. It should provide customizable screens that can be a choice for project managers to choose as a professional level, medium level, and a very easy level.""The outcome management and work resource management in terms of teams needs improvement. Team handling, how team requirements are generated, and how the resource managers can work with teams needs to be improved.""The UI needs improvement. The UI should have more possibilities for users who are not specialized in using Planview. At the moment, it is more of a technical UI. I would like it to be an open user UI.""Their off-shore support is something new that they're laying out and the team just needed some development in terms of skill and experience.""Even though Enterprise One is easy and user-friendly, it could provide better training like a demo. Providing more tutorials or sessions would really help.""There's still a lot of reluctance within the organization. We're not using all of the capabilities that we have today. We're still doing our strategic and capital investment planning on spreadsheets rather than using the capabilities that exist within Enterprise One. I definitely need to leverage the experts here at Planview to help drive a culture change. There's just a lot of reluctance on behalf of people within the company to put data into the tool.""The technical support is a little overworked. At least, they have been in the past year. We need them to focus on somethings from time to time. You can tell that they're really focusing on many things. It has gotten better, but I think they could still use some relief."

"It is not easy. The deployment of the application and its functionalities are not easy. It is a complex process to create accounts, names, and catalogs.""They should also improve the interface. There are other competitors like Microsoft Project for the web, Wrike, Team Gantt who have a way better, modern user interface.""We'd like to see a heartier connection between Projectplace and Enterprise One. We know that's on their roadmap, but they haven't gotten there yet. Planview could also make better use of Projectplace's template capability.""An area of improvement is customer support and services. Sometimes, the issue reported is not resolved within a specific timeframe, and the technical consultants who are approached for the requirement finalization can be better in terms of understanding the requirements. Sometimes, there is a gap in understanding the requirements. Other than that, the solution is fine.""In terms of what could be improved in Planview Projectplace, it would depend on the purpose, because if you talk about resource planning, from my perspective, it's not the best tool. It would also depend on the company itself, for example, I've been working with another company and Planview Projectplace was needed more for workload and resource planning purposes, and I don't think the solution covered those purposes well. Its resource planning and workload functions need improvement.""I believe that the graphs, reporting, and connection with the slides are areas that need improvement.""The reporting end of it needs improvement. There should be more reporting, more data at your fingertips. It should be easier and a little more user-friendly. I know there is some there, but it's just how do you get more meat on the bones, if you will, of what's available.""It needs some improvement in the project planning reports, ad hoc reports, and some big file transfers are a challenge. If you were going to transfer some 10 MB or 12 MB document with your team members, then it might have some problems in uploading and sharing those files. The overall dashboard view needs some advancement in its visualizations and uploading a large file size is a challenge."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensing part is a bit costly in comparison with the other available PPM tools."
  • "We are on the Flex licenses."
  • "We have unlimited licenses for all of our functionalities. Since we went global, we went with that model."
  • "The cost of other pieces and integrating them in needs improvement."
  • "We have portfolio managers, resource managers, project managers, and time reporting licenses. These are the licenses that we have."
  • "I don't think we have necessarily purchased everything that I would have liked to have seen."
  • "We have several hundred licenses. It costs us several hundred thousand dollars a year."
  • "We overbought our licenses. We looked at our needs three to four years down the road and tried based our contract on that. However, we were over aggressive. We use about a third of the licenses that we have. We're looking to adjust the makeup so we can start utilizing the amount of money that we are spending. Right now, we're overspending, and my organization is not seeing the value in Planview because we are paying so much for licenses that we're not using."
  • More Planview Portfolios Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I think the price of Projectplace is highly reasonable for the amount of functionality that you get. We have what they call a FLEX License. That means you get Projectplace, Enterprise One, and Leankits all on the same license. That's great because then you can use the other products without any additional cost."
  • "In my opinion, the pricing is reasonable."
  • "I believe it is a good value for money for the service they provide and the tailored program. When compared to Microsoft Project."
  • "The cost of this product is mid-range. It's not too expensive but not the cheapest on the market."
  • "Pricing might be a challenge because it costs around $29 to $30 per user a month. If you have a large user base, around 100 to 200 users, then it might be costly for an organization. For organizations who do not have a comprehensive overall budget, it might be a challenge."
  • "I would say the licensing maturity was probably a three out of five. They have a long way to go before they can scale out and retain enterprise customers."
  • "It can be expensive, but if you see the functionalities and the processes, it's not as expensive as other applications. We pay about 1 million Mexican Pesos per year for all 100 licenses."
  • "Its pricing plan should be improved. It could be expensive for midsize or small companies. There are no additional costs, but it would be great if you can negotiate or confirm the price during the requirement analysis phase."
