Works well in a Microsoft environment and provides virtual patching but needs better reporting
Pros and Cons
  • "The cloud-based management portal was okay."
  • "The reporting can be improved. We'd like to have had broader insights as to what was happening on a machine."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used for security management in the broadest sense. It was for antivirus and malware scanning.

How has it helped my organization?

The client already phased the product out. However, it was used as endpoint protection.

What is most valuable?

I only worked with it for a couple of months, and we phased it out due to some technical reasons.

The cloud-based management portal was okay.

It does help prevent various threats. While it's protecting in a broader sense, the issue is I can't see the results of what is happening.

ApexOne does integrate with other security products. We had a different solution from Trend Micro running. We also are running a server-based solution available from Trend Micro, although they were not necessarily integrated.

We had it installed within a Microsoft environment.

If you are an administrator who needs to access the console, it's pretty straightforward. It's easy to administer ApexOne.

The solution provides you with virtual patching to protect against vulnerabilities.

We were able to use Trend Micro's XDR services in conjunction with ApexOne. It helped give us some extra insights and additional security measurements.

What needs improvement?

In terms of protecting points against threats, it's hard to answer the question. I'd only worked for it for a couple of months. From what I'd seen, we weren't able to see well reporting-wise. For example, what it does, what it catches, and what it prevents, Defender 365 is way more advanced and transparent. The reporting can be improved. We'd like to have had broader insights as to what was happening on a machine.

As a user or as an administrator, you should be able to see what the product actually does. You would like to see what's happening. What's scanning, et cetera, and it doesn't do a good job like Defender 365 does.

We had some pretty severe issues in a VDI environment. Every time a machine reboots, it needs to fetch the latest updates. However, we had some caching issues, and Trend Micro did not update some specific components which caused VMs to fall out or some people not to be able to work on their VDI anymore. We had some support cases open with Trend Micro, however, it was not easy at all. It was pretty hard to comprehend our specific situation as it was a little in-depth.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for less than a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We experienced instability with a few different Trend Micro products. Typically, after an update, we would have some issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

We had severe cases with VMs falling down. Support took too long to help define the root cause of the issue.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We implemented Microsoft Defender 365 in its place. When you look at, for example, reporting from all kinds of incidents it seems to be better than what I have seen from Trend Micro.

There was a period of time when the company paid for both Microsoft licenses and Defender and the reason for the transition was to just have the one solution already covered under 365.

How was the initial setup?

The solution was deployed on-premises. The company used Citrix Cloud, however, the machines that people worked on were local. There was no cloud-based machinery.

I was not involved with the deployment of ApexOne. I can't speak to how long it took.

Uninstalling or removing the product wasn't easy.

The solution did require maintenance. Every month we did an image update of the VDI environment. We manually had to make sure everything from ApexOne was exactly right, and the update process was very tricky.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I was not in a position to compare the cost of licenses.

What other advice do I have?

I'm an independent freelance consultant. I used the solution within the last company I worked for and used it as an administrator and a user.

I'm not sure if I have noticed a reduction in viruses and malware since moving on to ApexOne. I worked with it for too short of a time period. We never had a real outbreak or anything.

I'd advise those considering the product to do a good proof of concept to really make sure the solution fits. Have your needs and everything in place. Get all the people who will administer the product involved and well-trained. Look at all of the reports as well.

Overall, I would rate the solution six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Works very well, has a reasonable price, and is easy to learn and manage
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to learn. In just two or three hours, our system administrator could learn how to use it. It is easy to integrate and easy to manage."
  • "One of our firewalls once detected a threat, but Apex One did not detect it."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for endpoint protection. We are using its latest version.

How has it helped my organization?

I did not get too much bad feedback from the employees and the users in the company. That is the main benefit for me.

It reduces administrative overhead. Along with our mail security solution, there is a 40% or 50% reduction.

What is most valuable?

Based on the feedback from the consumers or the parties that are working in the company, I did not get much bad feedback. Nobody said that it is not working or they are not able to work. They can run their programs as usual while Apex One is retrieving data or scanning their computers or laptops. It also catches any malicious activities or spyware easily. Apex One provides good defense against threats such as malware, ransomware, and malicious scripts. I would rate it a four out of five for its protection capabilities.

It is easy to learn. In just two or three hours, our system administrator could learn how to use it. It is easy to integrate and easy to manage.

What needs improvement?

One of our firewalls once detected a threat, but Apex One did not detect it.

We escalated some thing to our consultant, and it is still not resolved. I asked my administrator about it, and he said that they are working on it. I did not follow up too much because it was not a very complex issue. Only one of two users had this problem, but it did not disturb their operations. There was an error message on their systems, and when they clicked okay, it got closed. They did not face this problem all the time. It happened only in some cases, but we could not find the reason.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable. I would rate it a nine out of ten in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We have about 100 users using the solution. I would rate it a ten out of ten in terms of scalability.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using another solution for endpoint protection. I do not remember its name, but we switched to Trend Micro within two or three months of my joining this organization.

The most important reason for switching was that the other solution did not have an EDR solution. The price was also more than the Apex One and EDR altogether. We also saw some malware problems, and some of the users also had issues with using their computers. They could not even move the mouse, whereas Apex One does not impact their work. It works in the background.

How was the initial setup?

We had a consultant for the installation. He logged into our system and installed it. It took two days, which also included training.

It does not require much maintenance. It just works, and our system administrator does not have to work much on it. He uses it only if there is any issue. Otherwise, he does not touch it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is reasonable compared to other solutions.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We considered other solutions. We did not do a PoC, but I asked the IT managers at my previous company for their opinion. In the end, we went for Trend Micro Apex One.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Trend Micro Apex One to others. It works well. You can just install it and then forget it.

We have not yet integrated it with other products. I have a cloud EDR solution, but it is still not in production. I have the license, but I have not used it yet.

I would rate Trend Micro Apex One a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use but there are issues with the behavior filtering
Pros and Cons
  • "It's easy to use and used to be a very good solution."
  • "There is room for improvement in the behavior filtering and control of Trend Micro."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for many use cases, such as servers, clients, laptops, end-users, servers, and endpoints.

What is most valuable?

It's easy to use and used to be a very good solution a few months ago. However, we recently did an intrusion test, which didn't work as expected. So now we're very disappointed with it.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in the behavior filtering and control of Trend Micro. Currently, this feature is not functioning correctly, which is evident in the behavioral backset basset on signatures like visors, but the behavior filtering is not working properly and needs to be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for five years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are no issues in performance. It is a stable solution, and I would rate the stability a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution, and I would rate it a seven out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service team is very good. It is very responsive and knowledgeable.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy. The deployment was very fast.

What about the implementation team?

You do not need an expert to set up the solution, and you can deploy it yourself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We use a yearly subscription, and it is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten. There are some issues with the behavior filtering functionality.

Good endpoint protection and reliable but with no real areas for improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution can scale."
  • "I can't think of any specific areas that need improvement."

What is our primary use case?

It's used as antivirus protection on the endpoints.

What is most valuable?

The initial setup is straightforward.

It's stable and reliable.

The solution can scale.

What needs improvement?

I can't think of any specific areas that need improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been stable and reliable. The performance is good. there are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. If you need to expand it, you can.

We have around 10,000 users on the solution at this time.

How are customer service and support?

I'm not sure if our team has ever used technical support. I've never contacted them directly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Trend Micro's been in our company for quite some time. Apex, under the new name, is the latest. Before that, it was OfficeScan, which was Trend Micro as well. We've likely used Trend Micro for a decade.

How was the initial setup?

It's an easy product to set up, from my understanding. I don't recall discussing any complexities during implementation. The deployment likely took less than a month. It doesn't take too long.

At this point in time, just a couple of engineers are needed to manage the solution.

What about the implementation team?

Our team handled the setup process. We did not use an integrator or reseller.

What was our ROI?

We've likely experienced an ROI while using the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not familiar with the licensing costs. They are a part of our enterprise agreement.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure which version I'm using at the moment. I don't directly manage the solution at the moment.

Potential new users need to evaluate their licensing cost and the solution, whether it checks all the boxes and has all the features they need.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

Effective zero-day threat detection, good performance, and plenty of features
Pros and Cons
  • "Trend Micro Apex One is good at detecting zero-day threats. When the solution was in operation I did not notice any system performance problems. Upgrades of the solution were simple to do and there are plenty of features."
  • "If certain alerts could be translated into day-to-day English with some action plans, a few points, what to do, and how to do it, that would help me personally as IT Manager. They have some recommendations regarding the vulnerability of the endpoint. They take you to some very technical information and if you are not a security engineer or security-trained you might not understand what they're talking about. We are a small company and it would benefit if things were explained better, we cannot afford a dedicated Trend Micro Apex One engineer."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Trend Micro Apex One for security.

What is most valuable?

Trend Micro Apex One is good at detecting zero-day threats. When the solution was in operation I did not notice any system performance problems. Upgrades of the solution were simple to do and there are plenty of features.

What needs improvement?

Trend Micro Apex One can be at times heavy on resources, but I did not notice any difference as an end-user.

If certain alerts could be translated into day-to-day English with some action plans, a few points, what to do, and how to do it, that would help me personally as IT Manager. They have some recommendations regarding the vulnerability of the endpoint. They take you to some very technical information and if you are not a security engineer or security-trained you might not understand what they're talking about. We are a small company and it would benefit if things were explained better, we cannot afford a dedicated Trend Micro Apex One engineer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Apex One for approximately eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been stable. We have not had any problems with ransomware or anything else.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We are a small company and I am not sure how scalable it is. It has worked fine in our usage.

We have approximately 200 endpoints.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted the support from Trend Micro.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used other solutions in the past, such as Kaspersky, but we currently are migrating to a Microsoft solution. Since we use many Microsoft solutions and wanted to consolidate the organization it seemed like the natural thing to do to move from Trend Micro Apex One to Microsoft.

How was the initial setup?

The installation of Trend Micro Apex One is straightforward. Once we added the endpoints to the console the installation was not problematic in any way.

I would rate the migration and implementation of Trend Micro Apex One a five out of five.

What about the implementation team?

We receive weekly maintenance reports. If we receive any report of something causing issues for us here in the IT department, we look into the issue, but I do not remember the last time we had any alerts.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of Trend Micro Apex One was reasonable. There is a license required to use the solution and we have upgraded the solution to include some additional features, such as XDR.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

When evaluating Trend Micro Apex One and Microsoft Defender I didn't find any major differences. The benefit of Microsoft Defender is it is well integrated with Azure, Intune, and other Microsoft solutions. Trend Micro is not as straightforward where everything is in place.

What other advice do I have?

I didn't have any hands-on experience with another system to compare the metrics too. However, I have found the solution to work well.

Trend Micro Apex One gives you a lot of features. You will make good use of it if you have somebody who can attend to the dashboards and do deep security scans. In larger organizations, you would have somebody dedicated and well-trained to oversee the solution. It is important and an advantage to have somebody well-trained and who can receive the value from the information they are able to provide. Otherwise, it will be similar to what we are doing. The solution is sitting on the endpoint, and we are happy that we are not being infected.

I rate Trend Micro Apex One an eight out of ten.

It has multiple modules that improve threat prevention across hundreds of networks
Pros and Cons
  • "Apex One is effective at catching malicious activity. It has multiple modules that improve threat prevention across hundreds of networks."
  • "Apex One uses a lot of RAM and other physical resources, and I also don't like the web interface."

What is our primary use case?

We use Apex One to identify and resolve malicious activity.

What is most valuable?

Apex One is effective at catching malicious activity. It has multiple modules that improve threat prevention across hundreds of networks. It's successful against malware and ransomware attacks. The solution has advanced capabilities like behavior modeling that help it deal with unknown threats. It's easy to use and learn.

We can integrate Apex One with our ITSM solution, and it integrates seamlessly with other Trend Micro products. Apex One detects malicious activity and can feed information into the Apex Central console or any product. The detectors, data analyzers, and other email gateways are integrated.

What needs improvement?

Apex One uses a lot of RAM and other physical resources, and I also don't like the web interface.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Apex One for about three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Apex One is generally stable, but it consumes too many resources.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We haven't used other vendors for our EDR console, but we have used traditional endpoint protection solutions like McAfee and Symantec.

How was the initial setup?

Apex One was deployed before I joined the company. It requires some maintenance. Trend Micro's support providers contact me monthly about our problems. For example, when we upgrade the Apex One web version, we need to upgrade the Microsoft version. That's the problem for me in our business network.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Apex One is inexpensive compared to other solutions that are available in our country.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Trend Micro Apex One seven out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good end-to-end protection and stable solution
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the advantages for me is that it is very easy to use."
  • "Trend Micro Apex One could include more in-depth endpoint protection."

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case is for end-point protection such as anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.

How has it helped my organization?

The benefit for the organization is that we're getting secured.

What is most valuable?

One of the advantages for me is that it is very easy to use. Moreover, it's cloud-based, so we're not managing any local hardware here. This means it's always updated.

What needs improvement?

In future releases, I would like to see more advanced protection.

Trend Micro Apex One could improve advanced threat protection or include more in-depth endpoint protection.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Apex One for three years. I am currently using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate it an eight for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have around 700 users from all departments, including front-end, back-end, and executive offices.

I would rate it an eight out of ten because you can easily add licenses to scale it up.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are very responsive.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. You just need to install the agent, which usually takes a couple of minutes. Moreover, maintenance is not required because the product automatically updates to the cloud.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

What you get for the license, you get it. If you want to get another product, then you have to get another license for that. That's how they do it.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate the solution an eight out of ten because there's still room for improvement.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of the solution is for endpoint protection.

What is most valuable?

I genuinely enjoy the script and I find Trend Micro to be more user-friendly, as it requires only two administrators.

The big issue that I have is the edge agent, of course, Trend Micro has a larger database making it easier to find information.

I believe that optimization is a really good feature on the front side.

What needs improvement?

The customization has room for improvement.

I would like to have the ability to see what files are being scanned live.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for almost three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I give the stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
