We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features of Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its superior performance compared to other flash tiers, as well as its ease of use, with an intuitive user interface that is simple to deploy and use.""The latency is good.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe helps to improve our processing speed. It is user-friendly and easy to use.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""It's helped us because we've changed fundamentally what we talk about. We don't talk about storage and different tiers of storage anymore nor do we talk about servers. We talk now about applications and how applications impact the business and end users.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues.""It is very easy to install and configure. It has got excellent diagnostics. If you really need to see how the box is performing, the console gives you a lot of information. You can set thresholds as well as alerts based on the thresholds, which is a very powerful functionality. They are very proactive. They know how to monitor and manage the systems. They see a problem, and they are all over it before us. They see the problem before we see it, which is very good.""Pure has signature security technology, which cannot be deleted, even if you are an administrator."

"In my opinion, HPE is making good progress and moving ahead with InfoSight, which is predictive analytics and artificial intelligence.""Our customers have given very positive feedback about InfoSign, which is the management software for this solution.""The most valuable feature of HP Primera is that you don't have to buy an additional product for application replication. It's a stable product. The tool is scalable. I recommend HPE Primera because it's one of HP's most stable product.""The product is stable.""The interface is simplified.""There has been a lot of changes in HPE Primera OS, and most of the time any package related to it is simple to upgrade. It does not require any support for the operation. The customer can easily deploy any code directly from the GUI which is very good. Additionally, we have individual storage we can allocate and easily manage.""The performance of the solution is good.""The most valuable feature is the ability to provide the IOPS ratio which is required by a lot of our customers."

"The solution is useful for machine learning and scientific applications, including computer simulations.""This has been one of the most reliable storage systems that I have ever used."

Cons
"If the customer only needs 500 terabytes and doesn't care how much data they'll put in the server, IBM is cheaper than Pure.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better.""We need better data deduplication.""I would like to see replication and DR features in the next release of this solution.""There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""The software layer has to improve.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved.""We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency."

"There are certain features that require engineering-level access, which should be accessible to storage admins as well.""HPE Primera's pricing model is an area of concern and can be considered for improvement.""The initial setup is not straightforward.""The file server embedded in Pure, the GUI, and the tracking and reporting features are better with Pure Storage.""Like most storage, we want to see flash become more and more stable. Like any flash that uses MLC or TLC techniques, over time, the more writes you have, the less usable the storage becomes. They try to plan for this and have a lot of extra space in the arrays, but over time, their performance does degrade. This is true for any flash storage.""The solution has good performance but it could improve further.""We face challenges with false alarms, particularly daily alerts related to replication link breaks. I'm not happy with the customer service and support.""There really isn't any aspect of the solution that needs improvement for the customer other than its price."

More HPE Primera Cons →

"The read/write ratio is an area in the solution with some flaws and needs improvement.""The write performance could be improved because it is less than half of the read performance."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "The price of this solution is good for medium-sized and large businesses."
  • "From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive."
  • "The price to capacity ratio is good."
  • "It is basically in the mid-range of the price. It is not cheaper than Hitachi, but it is cheaper than Pure Storage. There are no additional costs. Everything was taken care of in the price."
  • "Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included."
  • "I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price."
  • "There is only a one-time license purchase needed and no additional costs. If HP could reduce the training cost, then that would be advantageous to the seller."
  • "The price of HPE Primera could improve, it is expensive."

  • "We acquired VAST Data as a one-time, capital purchase."
  • "Price-wise, VAST Data is not the cheapest, not the most expensive one."
