We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I very much like the support that you get, and I think that it's excellent.""The cloud management panel is nice.""Service availability is the most valuable feature. It gives every user 100 percent uptime.""The most valuable aspects of Linode are the virtual server and the clean server. I install what I need on it.""The fact that you can do any Linux distribution is great. You can try out any Linux distribution, even some of the more obscure ones, and they are always keeping them up-to-date. As soon as a new distribution comes out, it is on the platform pretty much the same day, which I find really helpful.""The number one thing we like about Linode isn't necessarily a service, it's their support. We've found their support to be absolutely fantastic. They've been so outstanding with their support. Every single time we call them and we ask for advice or help, they go above and beyond and it's really made us appreciate what they do.""Generally speaking, I have not found any faults using Linode. For what we wanted, they provided a complete solution.""Because of the way that their pricing model is set up, I can scale up or down the size of a customer's server very easily. It makes life very easy for me when they run out of space, need more speed or RAM, etc. I can very easily pay the difference and reboot the machine, and now I have the upgrade that I wanted. That just makes it extremely simple."

"The solution is easy to use.""I haven't experienced any instability or downtime in Oracle Cloud over the past three years. It is scalable The support team was good. The initial setup is straightforward to configure. I rate the solution a nine out of ten with ten being the highest.""Overall, there are some very good features on Oracle and it offers good customization capabilities.""The most valuable features of the Oracle Cloud Platform are good visualization and analytics. The solution is very well integrated with predictive analytics and forecasting. These features go beyond the traditional reports and visualization.""Oracle Cloud has wonderful features and offerings as a service. It's not just a pure-play cloud product or SaaS application. It has a complete suite from infrastructure to platform as a service to software as a service, and this is what I find most valuable in Oracle Cloud. For infrastructure on the cloud or infrastructure as a service on the cloud, there's OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure). Oracle Cloud is easily available. You just click it. I also found the feature of creating a landing zone valuable. Oracle Cloud is also very flexible as it lets you have a hybrid cloud model along with other cloud solutions. I also like that it offers good management on the cloud. Oracle Cloud is ready to use as a service, and that's wonderful because the time to market is very quick. I also like that Oracle Cloud offers high performance and high availability. A lot of people claim that there's high availability in their companies' cloud operations, but technically speaking, pure high availability in today's context is found in Oracle Cloud.""This is a highly available and scalable solution that can host both modern and legacy on-premises applications.""We appreciate the fact that this solution will operate with both native and third-party applications. This has meant that we don't need to change all of our systems to accommodate it within our network.""It has improved my company by cutting my time to market."

Cons
"Everything is up-to-date for a small business. But for big business, they need to improve certain things. For example, there should be better security.""Before they changed the dashboard, I found some of the more granular options easier to find.""When it comes to marketing and exposure, Linode needs improvement because I just randomly found them by looking for Linux solutions.""The only improvement in this aspect of the service which I can think of is perhaps a pool of developers who could be hired for those cases where the need goes beyond the support offered.""It's not really an issue with Linode itself but upgrading Linux major versions can be challenging. It would be be fantastic if Linode developed a way to ease transitioning to a major new Linux upgrade.""They recently changed the web interface and although the older one did not look as good, the new one is less responsive.""The product must improve its security.""I don't know how all of their services work, but my understanding is that they're not offering the entry-level machine for someone who just wants to own their own web page."

More Linode Cons →

"What I'd like to see from Oracle Cloud is an option for the customer to have a single portal to manage and monitor not just Oracle Cloud, but some of the on-premise products in the hybrid scenario as well. If it can be shipped out as an out-of-the-box solution, that would be wonderful. It's not so easy, but for a company like Oracle, it shouldn't be a problem. Many customers go through a lot of effort and burn money to achieve this, so it's an opportunity for Oracle to provide it for customers looking for this type of solution.""The product could use some more development and maturity so it has more peripheral functionality already integrated.""With Oracle you have to create your own roles and it is more complex.""I work with many clouds and I would say, in comparison, others have a better presentation of services and they have clearer steps in terms of implementation.""The initial setup can be a bit complex.""I would recommend this solution to other people.""The pricing is a bit expensive.""There is room for improvement for stability."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I pay just over £20 per month and have done so ever since I started eight years ago, which to me is good value."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. I like the simplicity of it, starting at $5, then doubling as it goes up from there. That is a brilliant idea, and it is not complex at all. It is about as dead simple as you can imagine. So, if you want to double what you have, then you double your price, pay the money, and reboot. It is done. It's that simple. You can't beat that."
  • "One key difference is that pricing is very hard to come by and to understand with all the bigger companies. Their pricing models are so weird and it's hard to figure out exactly how much I am going to pay for this kind of service. Everything is piecemeal. With Linode, it's simple and straightforward. You know exactly what you will have to pay at the end of the day."
  • "Compared to other service providers, like AWS and Google, the cost of services are much less and more affordable. We are saving about 90 percent by going with Linode versus other cloud providers."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. If you have very small applications, you can use the plan which costs $5 per month. That gives you 50 GB of memory and almost 1 GB of RAM. If you need more than you have to select the next plan which is $10 per month, which has about 70 GB of data and 2 GB of RAM."
  • "The value for the price is really good."
  • "Pricing is very good and flexible, according to the resources required."
  • "Being that they are small, their prices are slightly higher than the large providers like Amazon if you compare raw computing power."

  • "Make sure you read the fine print."
  • "My ROI has increased."
  • "It's not that expensive. I think it's maybe half or one-fourth of our actual on-prem cost, especially in Oracle Data Integrator. It's pretty cheap. Maybe around $30,000 or $40,000 per month."
  • "Costing depends on if you have an existing license for the application and for the operating system."
  • "The cost may be a bit high for many potential users."
  • "The pricing is a little bit expensive compared to other products."
  • "Improvements can be made with respect to flexibility in the licensing model."
  • "There is a subscription cost rather than licensing for this product."
