We performed a comparison between Microsoft Power BI and TIBCO Spotfire based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two BI (Business Intelligence) Tools solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."I like that I can use Power BI to upload data. That is very important for me. The visualization is also convenient and easy to use."
"The capability to add custom visuals and create Power BI apps. You can package datasets, synchronization details, and dashboards into a single app."
"The drill-down capabilities and automatic charts are the best ones. The visualization is also very good. In terms of visualization, no competing product, such as IBM Cognos or any other product, has the same capabilities."
"Many of my customers already use Microsoft products like Office 365, so I often propose Microsoft Power BI because it integrates well with all the standard Microsoft business tools. And it's the quickest tool to implement and start using daily."
"It is very good, and it supports the Microsoft ecosystem, including Excel, etc."
"I like the fact that Power BI lets me use Excel data. At least 90% of my state data is in Excel spreadsheets. Having the ability to just attach a spreadsheet as a data source is very, very important. It's also good for training and teaching. Sometimes you don't always have access to a live production database, so having a spreadsheet with sample data is always nice."
"Users already using Excel can generate new reports and dashboards within minutes."
"The use of graphics to show and view the data indicators is the most valuable feature. It is also very stable."
"TIBCO Spotfire is easy to use. We initiated Spotfire as POC, with support from a tech team based in South Africa. While they assisted with the setup, we conducted the POC ourselves."
"The two features that I have found most valuable are its ability to customize the dashboards when it comes to the evaluation. The second feature is its ability to handle a large amount of data, which is also something very unique about it."
"Data discovery is very simple."
"It's scalable."
"We particularly like the data angling feature of this solution. This gives us the ability to work on data transformations, join files, and carry out other data preparation tasks all in a single tool."
"R and automation services."
"From a scalability standpoint, I would say it's pretty fantastic."
"The most valuable features of TIBCO Spotfire are visualization. It's very nice, clear, and, flexible. You can analyze many data types and the user interface is very good."
"Lacks the ability to copy data from BI into PowerPoint."
"Microsoft BI lacks some of the scheme features. It would be beneficial if there were a way to show how we move values in a different way."
"The solution could use a faster speed on certain interactions and a refresh of the dashboards."
"Its performance and stability can be improved. It takes time to load, and sometimes, it also breaks down for the whole region. Its usability could also be better, and it could also have more connections with different data sources."
"If you need data in real-time, it's not an ideal solution."
"The solution could improve by having more attractive graphical charts."
"The look is simple, and could be a little more professional."
"I believe the price should be degressive, and we should have a lower, or better unit price if we have more users."
"The initial setup can be difficult."
"We encountered difficulties connecting the special data sets, as the post data set did not contain any shared columns, making it difficult to establish a connection between the data sets."
"When you do the data loading, it is slow."
"We would like an easier way to get the product to the cloud. Right now, we have the on-premise version, and we would like to find a way to make it easier to migrate it over to the cloud."
"The Text Area feature needs to be more user-friendly. It is a little clunky to use, and it is difficult to consistently format text."
"Compared to competitors, the UI is quite dated."
"The way TIBCO Spotfire is designed, in my opinion, is the reason why it lags a bit, especially compared to other BI tools like Qlik."
"The solution might be generic."

Hi @Esteban Fabiani - Thank you for posting this great question.
All the tools have base-level functionalities which could serve your day-to-day data analysis and visualizations.
There are various aspects that you would need to consider before choosing these tools such as
1. what are the primary use cases? Who will be using them? (Power BI is more user friendly)
2. Do they require a lot of customisations on the UI/UX ( Spotfire can be more flexible with IronPython scripts for custom UI development, Tableau has the best quality UI and charts)
3. Which cloud platform or server you would be using and what kind of computation power is required (if you are a Microsoft shop then Power BI should be preferred as it can be integrated with many MS applications at ease)
4. Cost - probably one of the key concerns (Power BI will be cheaper (desktop version is free) than Spotfire and Tableau)
5. Availability of talent within an organization as well as in the market (more talent available for Power BI and Tableau)
6. Many Oil & Gas, Manufacturing companies prefer Spotfire, but a slow move towards Power BI or Tableau or other visualization tools based on use cases. Many companies use Microstrategy for enterprise reporting
7. You may download free buyer guide reports from Peerspot, which would help you to choose the right one.
All the best.
