Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution has a very good open source community, and whenever we have problems, we are always able to resolve it online.""The solution is free to use.""You pay monthly for the solution. I think it's one of the best products. If you compare with other companies, like LogRhythm, etc., the top 8 or 10 CMs, I think Alien Vault has the best price-performance ratio.""AlienVault OSSIM's GUI is very user-friendly.""It has helped us remediate threats in the past by providing significant events that assisted in identifying suspicious activities, such as logins from multiple countries.""Its user-friendliness is the most valuable. It is very easy to use and explore. The dashboard is very well packaged and integrated. You don't have to spend a lot of time in configuring it and checking out the RPM etc. It is also free and very powerful.""The solution is very stable. Compared to Qradar and Splunk, it's very stable.""There are a lot of people you will find using OSSIM since they are also offering OTX as a service"

"The solution shows us our compliance score.""I find all of the features to be highly valuable.""The most valuable features of the solution are the scanning of all the cloud environments and most of the compliances available in the cloud.""AWS Security Hub provides comprehensive alerts about potential compliance issues with CIS standards. The integration with third-party tools is another excellent feature. All our workloads are on AWS.""Finding out if your infrastructure is secure is a valuable feature.""AWS Security Hub has very good integration features. It allows for AWS native services integration, and it helps us to integrate some of the services outside of AWS. They have partners, such as Amazon Preferred Network Partners (APN). If you have different security tools around APN, we can integrate those findings with AWS Security Hub reducing the need to refer to different portals or different UIs. You can have AWS Security Hub act as a single common go-to dashboard.""Very good at detection and providing real-time alerts.""The most valuable feature of AWS Security Hub is the ability to track when monitoring is not enabled on any of my resources."

Cons
"The price of this solution is very high and it could be cheaper.""There needs to be more support or some kind of training program so users can self-learn the system more effectively.""It takes some time. It does not give me a prompt response for any such [malicious] traffic. It takes time to get that alert from the AlienVault system.""AlienVault OSSIM on-premise version is more difficult to implement than the cloud version. Additionally, they should add integration between several different environments at once and improve their online knowledge base.""AlienVault OSSIM gives unwanted notifications.""When comparing AlienVault OSSIM to other solutions it looks a bit outdated. Additionally, they need to improve their integration.""It's under heavy traffic. If you have heavy traffic, the system is slow.""They can add more compliance templates."

More AlienVault OSSIM Cons →

"The solution will only give you insight if you have configure rule enabled. It should work more like Prisma Cloud and Dome9 which have a better approach.""The solution lacks self-sufficiency.""The support must be quicker.""Adding SIEM features would be beneficial because of the limited customization of AWS Security Hub.""The telemetry doesn't always go into the control center. When you have multiple instances running in AWS, you need a control tower to take feeds from Security Hub and analyze your results. Sometimes exemptions aren't passed between the control tower and Security Hub. The configuration gets mixed up or you don't get the desired results.""Security needs to be measured based on their own criteria. We can't add custom criteria specific to our organization. For example, having an S3 bucket publicly available might be flagged as a critical alert, but it might not be critical in a sandbox environment. So, it gets flagged as critical, which becomes a false positive. So, customization options and creating custom dashboards would be areas for improvement.""The user interface, graphs, and dashboards of the solution could improve in the future. They are not very sophisticated and could use an update.""Whenever my team gets some alarms from the central team, my team needs to initiate whether it's a real or false trigger. The central team needs to keep adjusting to the parameters or at least the concerned IPs, whether it's really from the company's pool of IPs, so the trigger process can be improved. In the next release of AWS Security Hub, I'd like a better dashboard that could result in better alert visibility."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "AlienVault pricing is the best. Whatever cost you are paying, you are getting a return on every penny... It's not like your IBM, your QRadar, or Splunk, where the cost is too high."
  • "The solution is open source, so it's free to use."
  • "OSSIM is free."
  • "The licensing fees for the non-community edition are paid on an annual basis, and there are no costs in addition to this."
  • "AlienVault OSSIM is free."
  • "We are using the community version, which can be used for free."
  • "We are using a free version of the solution. If you purchase a license there are more features available but the price is a little high. The solution should be cheaper to allow more customers to be able to afford it."
  • "The price of AlienVault OSSIM is too high sometimes for us to present to our customers. The price should be lower. We are on a three-year license to use the solution. We had to pay extra for the support."

    Overview

AlienVault OSSIM, Open Source Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), provides you with a feature-rich open source SIEM complete with event collection, normalization and correlation. Launched by security engineers because of the lack of available open source products, AlienVault OSSIM was created specifically to address the reality many security professionals face: A SIEM, whether it is open source or commercial, is virtually useless without the basic security controls necessary for security visibility.

AWS Security Hub is a comprehensive security service that provides a centralized view of security alerts and compliance status across an AWS environment. It collects data from various AWS services, partner solutions, and AWS Marketplace products to provide a holistic view of security posture. With Security Hub, users can quickly identify and prioritize security issues, automate compliance checks, and streamline remediation efforts.

The service offers a range of features including continuous monitoring, threat intelligence integration, and customizable dashboards. It also provides automated insights and recommendations to help users improve their security posture. Security Hub integrates with other AWS services like Amazon GuardDuty, AWS Config, and AWS Macie to provide a unified security experience. Additionally, it supports integration with third-party security tools through its API, allowing users to leverage their existing security investments.

With its user-friendly interface and powerful capabilities, AWS Security Hub is a valuable tool for organizations looking to enhance their security and compliance posture in the cloud.
