Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Reliability is the best feature. We faced some issues when we were setting it up, but the service, portal, and administration are good.""Overall, the pricing of the solution is very good. The product offers good value.""User-friendly and affordable security solution that's recommended for SMB customers. This solution has good technical support.""Its performance in fulfilling our requirements has been satisfactory.""The GUI is good.""I really like the captive portal feature for our guest network. It has nice VLAN features in terms of separating our network. The anti-virus is also good.""The pricing is great and very reasonable.""Easy to implement, and it is also reliable."

"I wanted to go to a software-defined WAN and in Barracuda they have a specific protocol called TINA (Transport Independent Network Architecture). You can create a master policy over the internet and it allows you to do Quality of Services on top of it. That is really helpful for me.""It's great for handling complex items.""Single device, multiple functions - I do not need to purchase a web application firewall, a proxy server, a VPN device and so many others because these are all built in to this one device.""If an employee tries to get or move a file that is not permitted to them - for example if he wants to copy it to a USB - he will not have the right to do that, because Barracuda manages who has the right to copy, and what you copy to a USB. The USB is encrypted with a specific code from Barracuda and will only be decrypted into any other laptop in the company if they allow it to see it.""What I like best about this product are the support and the features.""If you have multiple offices, all inter-connected via the internet, you want a single management console through which you can manage all you firewalls. In that case Barracuda could be a good option.""When you are sending information to an external email address, Barracuda can warn you when you are trying to access a private or personal email, or trying to upload information and not allow you to do that.""The solution is stable."

"In general, Meraki MX is easy to work with.""I use Meraki in my POCs and with my customers as well.""We work also with domain control (DC) from Microsoft or Amazon. We use a whole virtual appliance with Meraki.""The most valuable feature is that we didn't have any problems with Meraki MX.""We've had no issues with the scalability or the stability of this solution""It is a robust SD-WAN solution.""The technical support people from Meraki are brilliant.""Ease of management is the best thing about the solution."

Cons
"Some features of Fortinet FortiGate are actually fee enabled that are inconvenient for deploying in production. Other issues relate to isolation with Cisco products and your server.""Lacks sufficient security options.""They need to improve their technical support.""The scalability could be better.""It is very expensive, and their support is not very good. I hope that their technical support will be better in the future.""Due to its higher cost, Fortinet FortiGate can lead to increased operational expenses.""Maybe they could make some features more accessible, such as a way to translate directions between two networks that share the same subnets.""One area for improvement is the performance on the bandwidth demands for smaller devices, as well as better web filtering."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"We would like to see a solution that is focused on container deployment, which is very important right now.""The biggest issue that I have with this solution is that it is not super intuitive. Once you know what to do, things make sense, but you can't just open the program and start doing things. It would be great if there was a little bit more guided usage inside the program.""There is room for improvement in performance and the support language. The support they're providing right now is from a different country, and in our country, there are people—network admins and IT heads—who don't speak English properly. So Barracuda needs to provide support agents who speak additional languages, such as Bangla.""A rule for email announcements, when configured hits occur, would be a great improvement for a more efficient experience.""While using Barracuda CloudGen Firewall, we encounter issues with VPN profiles for Windows.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies.""The features are a bit limited compared to other vendors.""It would be better if they had a trace and trap feature. It's hard for me to say anything bad about Barracuda. This is because we had a firewall go down in the town of Kirkland Lake, and it was a blown-out port, and they had an instant replacement."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons →

"Direct logging is something that can be introduced. In the absence of cloud management, the possibility of local configurations and on-premise logins becomes restricted. This limitation stands as a primary concern. When it comes to resolving issues, the inability to access login options hampers troubleshooting efforts. The stability is noteworthy; but when compared to alternative products, its stability is comparatively lower. Additionally, certain limitations are observed in terms of remote control. Price-wise, the solution stands out for its competitive and cost-effective nature compared to other alternatives. Operationally, it is user-friendly and requires minimal effort from administrators, making configuration hassle-free.""It can be hard to get a hold of the solution’s technical support team.""The product could incorporate tools like ThousandEyes into the system so we can see things directly.""In general, the SD-WAN feature needs to be improved. The load sharing and load balancing of the traffic should be improved. I have had some problems with these features in the past.""The current lead time is longer for Meraki MX, and it needs to be improved.""The only stability issue is in Content Filtering. Sometimes we need to report these types of issues to Cisco support.""Expensive licensing and firewall stops immediately working if the license is not renewed at expiration date.""They're very complacent and I find the rule set to be a little arcane."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model. "
  • "We evaluated a lot of different options. We concluded that Barracuda NG Firewall provided the most features for an exemplary price. "
  • "My advice is to try and evaluate it (Barracuda offers a trial period of one month)."
  • "Pricing is good. Licensing is pretty much automatic if using Control Center."
  • "Pricing and licensing are fine. It's worth the value because every four years, if I buy any other product, I have to replace my hardware. But with Barracuda I get a free hardware upgrade. Today I'm using Xbox. After four years I can take another Xbox or a Ybox."
  • "It would be nice if the pricing and licensing offered for less."
  • "Purchasing through AWS Marketplace was good. We did it because it was easy."
  • "In general, it tends to be cheaper than most solutions."
  • More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It can always improve pricewise regarding throughput."
  • "It is more expensive than other solutions, but it is a cloud-managed network solution and support is given at the moment you call. That give a very big plus."
  • "The Meraki UTM is excellent when you buy the Advanced Security license. If you buy a different license you lost all the valuable functions."
  • "Pricing varies as per the type of license."
  • "Meraki is also expensive, but it's a little bit less expensive and it's easier to configure than Cisco ASA."
  • "The price varies depending on the hardware platform as well as the type of license and whether you're adding security or not."
  • "The license cost depends on the box. We acquired a different product line. We are dealing with MX appliance now, that is, MX6, MX54, MX100, MX250, MX450. Every box has got an identity, and it has got its own specification. Every box has got a different license fee. We deployed Meraki MX in UAE when it was not a mature product. We took a risk, but we were successful. We saved a huge amount of money after implementing and removing all the MPLS and leased lines. We got a broadband connection because Meraki MX could work on a broadband connection. We have drastically saved a very good amount of money, which was one of the successful things apart from the successful solution."
  • "The price is slightly increased, but reasonable."

    Reviews from Real Users

Meraki MX stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its easy management and its ability to be accessed remotely. Below is some feedback from PeerSpot users who are currently using Meraki MX as their firewall security solution.

Craig B., a central services engineer at Liberty Technology, writes, “The web console for managing everything keeps everything on Meraki and keeps us from going somewhere else. It is why I think a lot of people like Meraki. Comparing it to SonicWall or even a different Cisco firewall, like traditional ASAs, managing Meraki is a thousand times easier because of fluidity. You don't have to rebuild a table just to change one rule. It's much more readable for a human.”

Edgardo C., an IT director, notes,”By using the VPN, we can connect remotely. We have two offices, and we could connect them through the VPN. We could establish a network between two sites, and that has improved and increased communication and productivity. Our remote site is able to access the server remotely.”
