We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The synthetic data generation is really good... You can write rules and create permutations and combinations according to your needs. Or you can take a snippet of the Prod data and replicate it.""TDM allows us to find the right test data for the test that we need, and then it also allows us to get the required data inputs into our API test, so that we can do a full test.""The solution has a portal where we can create data. We can also create synthetic data with the help of the product. We can use it to create a new data set in the database, eliminating many issues. The product helps with data accuracy and availability.""There is other stuff that they are working on right now, and that includes things like the vTDM or Virtual Test Data Management. That is where they have the ability to do test data clones. It is really neat because after doing some of that creation, or if you are going to do some subsetting, then you have a great looking database.""The data generation is one of the most valuable features because we are able to write a lot of rules. We have some specific rules here in Turkey, for example, Turkish ID IBAN codes for banks.""The most valuable feature is the Portal that comes with the tool. That helps make it look much more user-friendly for the users. Also its ease of use - even for developers it's not that complicated.""Data generation, data masking, and data subsetting are three key features of this tool.""The whole process is done by functions which are compiled on the source environment itself. Normally, you take the data from the source, you manage them - for example, mask them - and then you load this masked data into the destination. With this solution, it's completely different. On the source environment, there are functions compiled inside the environment, which means they are amazingly fast and, on the source environment, data are masked already. So when you take them, you already take masked data from the source. So you can copy them, even with an unencrypted pipe."

"Data masking features are the most valuable, as non-production environments are used by diverse parties and data privacy has to be guaranteed.""The platform's ability to generate metrics is the most valuable feature for data management. It is a user-friendly and easy-to-use tool.""I like the features compared to other tools. This tool is more flexible to use than other tools like an Oracle product or SAP product. I think IBM tools are more flexible, and this tool is also a good product."

Cons
"As the solution continues to evolve, the one thing I like about it is the API-friendly layers that they have added into the realm. So, I just would like to see more support around that and more usability.""Needs a better fit and finish.""All financial institutions are based on mainframes, so they're never going to go away. There are ppportunities to increase functionality and efficiencies within the mainframe solution, within this TDM product.""We are using a specific database. We are not using Oracle or SQL, Microsoft. We are using Teradata. There are some things that they don't have in their software. For example, when delivering data, they are not delivering them in the fastest possible way. There are some things which are faster.""When we publish a lot data into the target, sometimes it is not able to handle it.""A lot of research, data analysis, and work needs to be done on the source system in the tool which requires a data expert. This tool definitely requires a senior person to work on this issue, as it might be a challenge for a tester.""The additional feature probably would be a data reservation that is more robust, where you can actually use it consecutively.""They could make it easier to model databases, because right now it is really technical, so to train someone on it takes a while."

"I think it could be more secure. I don't have experience with the security aspects concerning PII data, but I think it can still be streamlined a little more. It could also have some more features, and the initial setup could be more straightforward.""I would like to be able to combine different masking functions on the same column map, making more complex masking without the need of writing an Lua procedure.""TDM's efficiency in terms of generating reports needs improvement. It could work faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It can be scaled for as many licenses as the customer is willing to pay. It's kind of expensive."
  • "Know all the data requirements before buying this product. There are a lot of features for this tool, which may or may not be useful to a particular company. Make sure of what your requirements for your data are."
  • "Part of the licensing is dependent on whether you want to use the portal. It's based on floating users. The other part is dependent on what type of system you are using. We are using mainframe, so we paid good money for a mainframe license."
  • "The cost of this tool is pretty high... CA provides licenses for different utilities like masking but even if you break it up, the pricing is still high."
  • "I would rate Broadcom TDM's pricing as four out of five."
  • "My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs. So, I consider the licensing costs to be expensive, especially considering what I have heard from my colleagues."
  • "Mainly, we compete with the IBM team and Informatica, and if you compare the license cost, Broadcom is too flexible. Depending on the customer's budget, we suggest they buy only respective SKUs, and it's much cheaper compared to others because we have gone over multiple deals where pricing was never a factor in differentiating products."
  • "The tool's pricing is high."

  • "You have to pay yearly for the license, which comes at a reduced cost. The monthly payment option for a shorter project duration is also good."
  • "We purchase TDM's yearly license."
