We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product creates opportunities with hybrid on-premise solutions.""The installation of StarWind Virtual SAN was pretty easy, and the configuration was done in no time.""StarWind allowed us to deploy highly available shared storage within our budget.""The backup is readily available for use, and the restoration process is easy.""The failover protection and the ability to expand storage and nodes with no downtime are by far the best physical features we have benefited from.""It is easy to use and can monitor system synchronization and check Storage status. StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN) combines flash and disks of the cluster and forms a virtual shared storage “pool” accessible by all hosts. StarWind cuts down virtualization cost and complexity by eliminating the need for a physical shared storage (SAN). -StarWind offers the Enterprise-level high availability (HA), deployed and easily configured . we get technical support from star wind team when implementation software and after setup if we face any issue.""In the three years that we have been using StarWind, the product has yet to cause us any problems.""It's quite easy to install."

"In our implementations, HDS Storage Virtualization has helped in migrating data with the least amount of downtime, compared to other storage technologies.""This solution allowed us to move from using standalone systems to having all our data center management in one place.""The replication technology can move data faster than EMC MirrorView and requires less bandwidth. The Storage Virtualization technology is the most mature in the market, outside of IBM’s Storwize (which has a lot of compatibility issues, and EMC’s very expensive VPLEX solution); and it works."

"The solution is useful for taking storage snapshots, has high performance, and the CASL architecture is good for optimizing workloads.""Nimble Storage is a capable platform with high availability.""So far, the solution's performance is very good.""Simply being able to move objects and the duplication feature have been quite effective.""We have this feature in Nimble dHCI, wherein we can upgrade individual components in the infrastructure.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's user interface is very easy to work with.""Artificial intelligence is built into the product. If there's a failure, HP support will proactively call the client about the issue.""I love InfoSite. That gets you a lot of good detailed information."

Cons
"Improvements in documentation and support resources could enhance the user experience.""We ran into an issue with alerts.""I would like to see different levels of support offered.""The system performs as expected, but we're always looking for performance improvements regarding the best utilization of NVMe disks.""Scaling the product is fairly easy except for the computing aspect. It would entail another appliance. While not a show stopper, it isn't as easy as dropping in a few extra SSDs.""For the StarWind VSA vSphere solution, I would like to see a simpler and automated virtual machine installation process in terms of network settings.""Security on the ISCSI protocol could be improved by adding features like OS-type control access, especially for the data center environment.""It would be nice to see a new UI for the windows client, as it is not the easiest to find settings."

"An update to its technology would be good. The G Series has been around for more than five years and HDS seriously needs to ramp up, since the competition has better performance at a lower cost with better features and functionalities. For example, it needs redirect on write Snapshot, preconfigured storage tiering with better IOPS, built-in deduplication technology on hybrid disk, etc.""HDS reaches a ceiling depending on model. The G200 cannot transition to G400, the G400 can transition to G600 but cannot transition to G800, which is the top-end model.""An area for improvement would be technical support. In the next release, I would like to see more features added to make this a more complete solution."

More Hitachi Unified Compute Platform HC Series Cons →

"This year 2022, we have the possibility to include new kinds of storage with a high disk availability, such as Alletra 6000 and Alletra 9000. Those are the new storage available. If we would like to improve the quality and the capability and the high availability of these products, we can choose between different costs. This is another benefit from this HPE Nimble Storage dHCI solution of hyper-converged.""The product’s performance needs improvement. It could also help with more environment monitoring and AI technologies to improve the performance and thresholds.""The product is expensive.""Nimble Storage's integration with the management software could be better.""The initial setup is a little bit complicated.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI currently is promoting only VMware as a hypervisor, whereas if they can look into other OSs, such as KVM or Red Hat, it would be an improvement.""The solution could improve by providing better file-level restoration and DVX system options.""Sometimes the technical support would get back to us in two hours, but other times it would take them two or even three days to respond."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is much cheaper than the competition and has value proposition. Customers can see an ROI in three months. There are no additional costs, and VMware licenses can be reutilized."
  • "With the features that HPE Nimble Storage dHCI provides, I cannot say its pricing is more."
  • "The product is very affordable."
