We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"You can build cheap, reliable, replicated virtual machines clusters using simple servers with an all flash disk or SAS\SATA hybrid tiered by performance storage.""StarWind Virtual SAN is a highly flexible solution, as it can be deployed on physical servers or on top of virtual machines running on hypervisors such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.""The configuration is so much simpler than that of a traditional SAN with fewer points of failure to worry about.""We like their high availability. It reduces the downtime for our entire organization's environment.""I've been really impressed with it so far. I think it's pretty great, actually. It does exactly what we need it to do, and it does it well, so I would recommend it. Plus, the support has been very good.""Support keeps track of alerts of the system and verifies with us if we need help to fix any issues. They have great and quick technical support.""It has allowed me to effectively and confidently manage the maintenance of hosts where I can power off a host and have its VMs migrate to another one.""This solution made it possible to deploy a new infrastructure in the shortest amount of time, at a low cost without purchasing expensive hardware storage, and use unused servers."

"The nice thing about it is that it truly integrates with the cloud, so I can move my volumes bi-directionally in and out of the cloud.""The solution works well.""Nimble is easy to use, but hard to install. Once it's installed, it's user-friendly. Reporting is another advantage because we get a lot of statistical forecasting. It helps us see into the future with that.""The technical support services are good.""The solution is easy to use.""HPE's InfoSight software, which does the comparative analysis and artificial intelligence built-in in the box, and with Nimble they do well against the competition. Additionally, the dashboards are good.""The product has cut down a lot of service tickets. Earlier, people complained about slowness.""The solution is useful for taking storage snapshots, has high performance, and the CASL architecture is good for optimizing workloads."

"Homogeneity is most valuable. The truth is that having everything in a single cluster helps a lot.""Compared with other products, the IT administrator or IT integrator doesn't take much time to get the tool up and running.""I can roll out the system in thirty minutes and the customer can work with it.""The initial setup is simple.""The simplicity and manageability of VxRail are most valuable. We have a very good experience with this product. Its stability and scalability are also very good.""The pricing is very, very good.""The solution has simplified our operations.""The solution is easy to use. When turning on a server or a machine that is required for, deployment or quality assurance, the dynamic deployment of resources is good."

Cons
"It would be nice if we could designate pools, or tiers, for storage of different speeds, and then assign rules to new VMs that would automatically place them into the proper pool.""While we had little to no issues in setting up StarWind and received excellent support from the StarWind technicians, we would have appreciated a clearer guideline for a setup with the free version of StarWind Management Console or, in other words - for the setup with the PowerShell.""The Command Center, a free guest VM for management and monitoring, leaves something to be desired. It could have more accurate real-time information and better reporting visuals, which seem to be an afterthought.""It would be nice to see a new UI for the windows client, as it is not the easiest to find settings.""Security on the ISCSI protocol could be improved by adding features like OS-type control access, especially for the data center environment.""Android app for monitoring and receiving push notifications as alarms or monitoring I/O from any mobile device could be a good feature and nice to have as we are not always on our desk.""You have to do a "full" sync on write-back cache disks instead of a quick sync if there is an issue.""The configuration can a bit cumbersome."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"Their documentation needs to be simpler to read yet more detailed so it's easy to compare models and easier for clients to pick.""This year 2022, we have the possibility to include new kinds of storage with a high disk availability, such as Alletra 6000 and Alletra 9000. Those are the new storage available. If we would like to improve the quality and the capability and the high availability of these products, we can choose between different costs. This is another benefit from this HPE Nimble Storage dHCI solution of hyper-converged.""The product does not support file services.""I'm not sure if there are features lacking.""Nimble Storage's integration with the management software could be better.""Software upgrade is still more complicated than the competitors, so that's an area of improvement.""Companies in small countries face problems with spare parts.""It can be made cheaper."

More HPE Alletra dHCI Cons →

"In the next release, maybe they could add in integration with the hyper-cloud so it will be easier to do the movement up and back to the cloud in order to scale in and scale out.""Its price needs to be improved. It is very expensive. NSX should be licensed together. It will make the network virtualization layer more usable. It would be better if they come together in a bundle, not separately.""Having a native replication would be an improvement.""The product could support and have more compliance with other vendors.""The technical support is good but could be better.""I would like to see integration with vCenter if possible.""The solution could improve by having more storage performance because in some other solutions you can have a file system that can be mounted at several places at one time.""The initial setup was not that easy, it was a medium difficulty level."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "I think it's priced right and it's extremely intelligent."
  • "The customers have found the solution to be expensive. However, when compared to the competition the price is reasonable."
  • "The cost of the licensing is reasonable."
  • "The price of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is expensive."
  • "HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is much cheaper than the competition and has value proposition. Customers can see an ROI in three months. There are no additional costs, and VMware licenses can be reutilized."
  • "With the features that HPE Nimble Storage dHCI provides, I cannot say its pricing is more."
  • "The product is very affordable."
  • "I would rate the licensing model a three out of ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is cheap."
  • More HPE Alletra dHCI Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "There is a permanent vSAN license included since it is required, but vCenter\ESXi host licensing should be validated in the purchase process."
  • "Most of hyper-converged solutions require additional licenses for the virtualization layer (like VMware)."
  • "Be mindful of your storage needs now and for the future."
  • "Compare the VxRail product to Nutanix. Nutanix has more features, but its pricing is higher."
  • "Compare it to what you spent on your last solution."
  • "We most likely pay yearly for support. The cost was justified by now because it stays up and I don't have to constantly open tickets. I probably rebooted the system once or twice. We haven't replaced any discs in the storage, we haven't had to do any disc replacements, so it just runs. You pay a little more but you cut down on the maintenance."
  • "The price is a little bit on the higher side but the system and management are so quick and easy that it's worth it for the customer."
  • "We were expecting Dell EMC to bring us something that would work very quickly and easily, but also be at a reasonable price point, and they did."

    Reviews from Real Users

VxRail is an all-in-one solution: "You don't have to worry too much about the hardware and you don't have to work on integrating a storage device. We instead have this as an all-in-one solution and everything is available as a box."

VxRail is remarkable: “The cover points feature in VxRail is remarkable. It's unique. It has an intervention failover system as well as an automatic failover system, reaching clusters existing in VxRail…

VxRail is a powerful performer: “...VxRail delivers a very high number of IOPS for a hybrid configuration or an all-flash configuration. The processors that are available in the Xeon family are very powerful. They are multi-core with typically 2 gigahertz, 2.4 gigahertz, or higher frequency, so the performance is very much appreciated.”
