We performed a comparison between IBM Cognos and SAS Visual Analytics based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two BI (Business Intelligence) Tools solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."In terms of stability, I think that Cognos is more stable than Tableau and Power Bi because of its framework manager concept that allows us to import metadata and store it in the framework manager."
"Using custom controls, it is possible to extend the application with even more functionality and make the application intuitive and attractive."
"A positive feature is Report Studio, where we create beautiful, complex reports."
"The basic platform comes with several meta-modelling tools."
"One of the strong suits of Cognos is its robust corporate reporting capability."
"The most valuable features are Report Development (Functionality) and Information Distribution (Flexibility)."
"The most valuable features of IBM Cognos are governance and enterprise reporting."
"We are able to generate quality reports easily which allows us to decrease response time."
"The most solution's notable aspect, in my view, is the ability to integrate various data sources and harness advanced technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. This helps with quality assurance processes."
"Great for handling complex data models."
"I believe that the possibilities for exploring data and formulating visual results are quite good because it allows the business analyst to have different perspectives on the data."
"Data handling is one of the best features of SAS Visual Analytics."
"Quick deployment to dashboards and analytics features (using SAS Visual Statistics and Enterprise Guide). Easy to create a simple forecast and discover business insights using segmentation tools."
"What I really love about the software is that I have never struggled in implementing it for complex business requirements. It is good for highly sophisticated and specialized statistics in the areas that some people tend to call artificial intelligence. It is used for everything that involves visual presentation and analysis of highly sophisticated statistics for forecasting and other purposes."
"The flexibility of the configuration is valuable to me."
"Visual Analytics is very easy to use. I use Visual Analytics for all the typical use cases except text mining. I used it to analyze data and monitor statistics, not text mining. I also use it for data visualization as well as creating interactive dashboards and infographics."
"It would be good if the solution had conditional formatting."
"Cognos is quite slow - it's missing the performance of the PowerPlay cubes."
"It could have more options for themes."
"In terms of what could be improved, I would say, monitoring, monitoring, monitoring. Some improvements in monitoring would be helpful. I'd like to see more monitoring of specific reports and fields. The way the auditing is now is very limited, so I'd like to see more of that - of the monitoring."
"One thing that we really want is the ability to have data portrayed on an image. Cognos is not able to do it at the moment, and that's becoming a requirement from the business side: having an image and then plotting your dataset on top of the image as a map."
"Extending features on dashboards so it becomes a real dashboard building application, not only a data exploration tool."
"The high cost of a license makes it hard to scale up on a budget."
"I would like them to reinclude PowerPlay. One thing that I am missing in the current Cognos is what was formally named PowerPlay. They have basically removed PowerPlay from it, which is something that I fail to understand because it was the most wonderful tool for business intelligence that I've ever used. As far as I know, they don't provide this functionality anymore, so this is one thing that I dislike about Cognos."
"The solution is a little weak at the front end."
"I haven't come across any missing features."
"A bit more flexibility in the temperatization will be helpful."
"It is not as mature as competitors such as Tableau and QlikView."
"The reason we haven't rolled it out across the board is due to the fact that the licensing is so expensive."
"Colours used on report objects"
"The deployment isn't smooth. Deploying Visual Analytics on the cloud takes a lot of work, or you can use some providers that give you SAS as a service. For example, there is a provider called SaasNow. They host SAS Visual Analytics and the license. You can buy the license and deploy it there without the hassle of installation because deploying the software isn't easy."
"There is room for improvement in anti-money laundering prevention and operation monitoring, as well as operation monitoring surveillance."
