We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We have a database design group of about 15 people. The Repository enables multiple people to work on the same model at the same time. We have fully integrated models, so we have one model for the enterprise data warehouse, one model for MDM, with a lot of sub-models in these things. People work on different parts of the model at different times. So the repository enables us to share the models, and keep track of what everybody is working on.""Developing new dimensional models; for the data we're hosting, dimensional modeling is more useful.""It's much easier to develop the database structure and change it on the fly, rather than doing it manually in SQL Server itself. That saves time.""We can track changes to our data models and tie those changes back to specific tasks or efforts that we identify.""When validating the model, the ability to provide sub-models to developers, and generate a physical model from the logical, makes it easier to review a logical model with stakeholders.""One of the valuable features is inheritance when joining tables. When setting up RI and domains and rules, ER/Studio does a lot of the grunt, boilerplate code that would otherwise have to be hand-coded.""The most important features are logical and physical models that we can compare and develop. Also, the Data Dictionary can be created out of your studio. Finally, database schemas help understand the logic that's behind the scene, behind the SQL tables. Especially when there are a lot of them, the schemas help everyone understand the business processes.""This application does a lot of things, as do competitor products, but the main reason to go with this product was the ability to create many automations, where we can improve our work and our process."

"The solution has a very useful assessment tool that automatically populates from input data to produce a detailed analysis of customer's environments.""Among the most valuable features are the easy-to-use interface and the ability to get quick results... Many tools that I have seen are great for technical people and for giving technical and business information as well, but they're not as friendly and easy as LeanIX... It works well for both technical and business users. It provides a good combination, enabling you to quickly put valuable information in for both technical and non-technical people and derive results.""We've been able to develop some nice looking reports, and the dashboard's capability to map is very easy compared to Enterprise Architect.""I like LeanIX's ease of use in general.""The most valuable feature would be application portfolio management, which is where they came from, but over time, they have got artificial intelligence. They built up a very good repository. If I identify a system by name, from historical information, oftentimes, they can tell me that this is deployed with this number of CPUs and they can give me a really good profile of the application for me to put it into a change management database with very little effort.""The most valuable features are that it's user-friendly and the user experience. It's easy to map the fact sheets.""The most valuable features are the clean user interface and the fact sheet feature in Application Portfolio Management. The tool integrates well with ServiceNow, which is the usual CMDB platform.""The ability to import data and generate reports from it. That's where its power lies."

Cons
"I'd like the ability to debug the errors ourselves instead of having to call them. There are certain types of errors that, I wouldn't say they come up regularly, but when you have an error it is very often the same type of error. Knowing that it's a Type III or Type I, it would be nice to have some kind of debugging facility for us to use to find out where the problem that threw that error occurs. That would be a really cool feature.""It isn't easy to compare the thousands of tables in the model against the database. The tool should improve the synchronization within the large organization""The solution's reporting could be improved because the report writer is terrible.""We did have a big issue when we upgraded to the 2016 version. The Team Server portion never did quite install correctly, and/or the database was corrupted, and we never figured it out.""What I would like to see improved is the reliability of the releases, releases that are a little less buggy.""The solution could be sped up, as it is a little slow (e.g., when it's doing its database compare).""The visual presentation is a little too colorful and seems that it is dumbed down.""when there are some links to the external databases, if this database is not structured it is not uploaded. It gives me errors and I cannot see the view that was created on this structure and I cannot change those views, even manually. It skips the views. I have to ignore those views. I cannot re-upload them because it gives me an error."

"What would make LeanIX better is more variety in terms of reporting, and more flexibility with its data importing feature.""Report generation could be more detailed. There are some shortcomings when creating reports. We can't create tag-based reports or go beyond basic technical reports.""LeanIX has limited in-build diagramming capabilities, requiring the purchase of another tool. That is the main drawback of LeanIX because they don't have a built-in add-on product for diagramming.""I find LeanIX's pricing expensive for the functionality it offers. However, with the acquisition by SAP, the pricing might become more affordable due to scale and tiered application pricing. Currently, it offers different tiers for the first 400 applications: 400 to 600 and 600 to 1,000, making it expensive from a pricing standpoint.""They should improve the out of the box connectors that they provide. They should see if clients are really ready to adapt them.""It would be beneficial to have additional features and capabilities to enhance mapping between applications, especially across domains where the relationships may not be direct.""The solution needs to incorporate a data patch tool that moves within and irons data.""Not a ten because you always have that gap between complexity and easy to use. And the more complex the tool becomes, the more difficult it is to get the usability."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The product is pricey."
  • "The process of licensing could be much simpler, from our experience."
  • "I'm a firm believer that all software is overpriced these days but, comparatively speaking, I think ER/Studio is worth the money."
  • "I feel the product's pricing is a good value."
  • "Pricing is on point, but do your due diligence - not every developer needs the tool."
  • "As an individual user, the renewal is a little costly."
  • "Pricing is expensive and on the higher-end."
  • "At my previous company using ER/Studio, a database compare took four hours before using the product and 15 minutes after using the product."

  • "As the tool is cloud-based, its cost is more affordable."
  • "The solution's pricing is based on a licensing model that is competitive and in line with other products."
  • "There is a sweet spot of where they need to be on pricing right now. They could go up a little bit in pricing, but it has to do with the cost savings, and it has to do with the practitioners using it. I use it where I get cost savings and I can justify it, but they probably have the ability to flex a 10% up channel on their sales on that. So, they could increase their settle price, not their offering price, when they sell. They can probably hold that up a little bit higher than it is because there are cost savings that we can drive from it."
  • "The tool needs to include more flexible licensing options. We do not use the tool all the time. So pricing should be considered only when we use the tool."
  • "I would rate the pricing a one out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
  • "The pricing is very good. We definitely get good value for the money."
  • "LeanIX uses application-based account licensing, where the cost is multiplied by the number of applications in the software implementation."
