We performed a comparison between Microsoft BI and Oracle OBIEE based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Microsoft BI is the clear winner in this comparison. It is easy to set up, has good customer support, and is reliable and easy to use. In addition, it has an impressive ROI and is less expensive than Oracle OBIEE.
"I like having the ability to connect Excel files as data inputs."
"The product is easy to use and simple to navigate."
"Management reporting solution that's very stable and scalable."
"What I have found valuable about Microsoft BI is its performance and ease of use. The interface is very simple and it is accessible to everyone. If someone is new to this type of solution it is straightforward to understand."
"The fact that you can visualize items is great."
"Data integration is very useful in Power BI. It lets me collect data from many sources. For example, I can get data from Oracle databases and SQL Server databases at the same time."
"The flexibility of the program is valuable. We are able to add other information to the reporting information and expand upon it."
"Easy to use. End-users can make changes to the graphics."
"There are a lot of functions in the product, including a drill-down functionality and level-based hierarchies that are very attractive."
"I think the most valuable features are the ability to drill down, the graphs, and the scheduling for the reports to be received in Excel on a daily basis. Users like Excel, so it's good for them that they receive the reports by email, that they don't have to specify the schedule."
"It has helped to consolidate data and report on a single version of the truth."
"We can see almost-real-time performance in our operations. When there is a problem, it is easy to escalate it to top management and the time for management to make a decision about it is much shorter than it would be using a manual process."
"The main features of this solution are that it is easy to use, intuitive, and user-friendly. When I retrieve the data from the database it is in a very raw form, then when I use the Oracle Report Builder it has advanced intelligence features to allow me to view and make changes to the data easily."
"It doesn't have many frills and is definitely older technology, but it is undeniably a workhorse."
"User-friendly look and feel."
"Some of the dashboard capabilities are good. The dashboard capabilities that tell you what kind of reports are available and provide you a summary of the reports are valuable. It is easy to navigate and easy to download reports into Excel to utilize them."
"I would prefer that the solution not be shared. I'm concerned that if we make a mistake we could reveal information to people who shouldn't see it. I would like to have my own on-prem server, to buy my own server and have my own infrastructure for Microsoft BI, with only with my data."
"Needs single sign-on."
"BI is scalable, but there are some problems with limited online storage."
"When I create measures, sometimes the error messages aren't clear. It makes me spend more time searching for solutions. I need the error messages to be more specific. So, I would like clearer error messages when creating measures."
"Better mapping capabilities and easier administration access would be beneficial, especially for understanding who has viewed reports."
"Some kind of expression wizard, where the user can build a complex expression without any knowledge of DAX, can be a good addition to the product."
"There is room for improvement in terms of pricing for the solution."
"Power BI doesn't support some open-source data sources that are new, such as SnowSQL, Iceberg, or ClickHouse."
"I would like to see the data wrangling features enhanced."
"We were not satisfied with the support, because we could not obtain answers or solutions."
"The drawback with the tool is that though it is well-created, its users are under-trained to use it."
"One feature I would definitely like to see is the ability to provide the in-memory data. Oracle might have some plugins but, as of now, that feature isn't available out-of-the-box. You might have to purchase that feature."
"An area for improvement is that Oracle pushes more users to Oracle BI Publisher rather than emphasizing Oracle OBIEE for reporting. The pricing for Oracle OBIEE could be improved."
"It needs a better security management system."
"It would be better if it had a wide range of visualization options. For example, Microsoft Power BI has an extensive range of visualization options, but it's not available in OBIEE. There are also some conflicts because it's complicated, but the cloud application is easier. They added some features for ETL with the on-premises application, but we need a different or a separate application for ETL in the cloud. In the next release, I would like to have more AI features."
"I find I prefer Oracle OAC over OBIEE. It's more advanced, has artificial intelligence, and there's more that we can do with it in general. OBIEE is lacking features."
