Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We haven't needed anyone to maintain or deploy the solution. The traditional Nutanix administrator can administer the solution.""The solution is stable.""It offers synchronous data replication, allowing us to sync our recovery data every hour and efficiently send applications to remote sites.""The tool's most valuable feature is ease of use.""Hyper-convergence gives me the ability to patch my firmware, software, and hypervisors with a single click. That is extremely useful.""It is a very secure and scalable solution, and their support is also outstanding."

"VMware's tech support gets a nine-out-of-ten. They are responsive and get you a useful reply.""Our systems fail over using SRM. So, we do a big bang DR, which is biannual, and we fail over our fairly massive Epic electronic health record (EHR) and our core applications. It takes us about 30 minutes to fail over using SRM, which is pretty good. In most hospitals that have Epic installed, Epic does the audit to make sure that we can fail over if something were to happen. Normally, sites will have a DR solution specific to the EHR, but right now, our pain point is the third-party tier-one clinical applications.""It's very reliable. The solution is stable.""It has a good and effective user interface.""Testing failover capabilities.""SRM's best feature is automation.""The most valuable feature is disaster recovery testing.""My impression is that the initial setup process is relatively straightforward."

Cons
"I think that Nutanix should support public clouds instead of the Nutanix data centers.""The solution needs improvement in cost.""The pricing could be better.""The product is more costly than other platforms. The price could be better.""For moving the data for DR, we are using Megaport. We are using a Megaport link between the data centers, so we have a third party for the site-to-site connectivity between the data centers. If such connectivity is available from the Nutanix side, it would be helpful for us.""They need better reporting on the environment."

"The configuration process could be improved.""Lacks stability and as a result requires continuous monitoring.""I would like to see this solution be more scalable.""There are many functionality problems with the product currently. It is also slow and unstable.""The solution could improve by removing some of the limitations we have been facing. There could be better integrated.""The primary site lacks adequate equipment, such as power backup and cooling, which can lead to downtime during issues like power outages or overheating.""If you have a failover case, you need to work on it manually. It would be helpful if this could be automated. It would simplify things.""Flexibility to choose different PITs would be nice."

    Overview
Nutanix Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) is a fully managed DR service that eliminates the need for a dedicated DR site, minimizes data loss and downtime, and helps organizations meet RTO/RPO SLAs confidently.

VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) is a business continuity and disaster recovery solution that is part of the vSphere virtualization suite. It helps you plan, test, and run the recovery of virtual machines between a protected vCenter Server site and a recovery vCenter Server site. VMware SRM aims to minimize data loss and system downtime by letting you automate backups and orchestrate the recovery of entire VMware storage systems. VMware SRM is offered on-premises and on the AWS cloud.

VMware SRM is most commonly used for:

    • Disaster recovery
    • Disaster avoidance
    • Data center migrations
    • Site-level load balancing
    • Maintenance testing for enterprise applications

As a disaster recovery tool, VMware SRM:

    • Provides replication technology.
    • Supports policy-based management of backup programs.
    • Lets you run non-disruptive testing of disaster recovery plans.

    VMware SRM Key Features

Some of VMware SRM’s key features include:
Good scalability and stability, fast and reliable recovery, automated orchestration workflows, automated recovery of network and security settings, non-disruptive recovery testing, orchestrated cross-vCenter vMotion, stretched storage support, and self-service provisioning.

    VMware SRM Benefits

The main benefits of using VMware SRM include:

    • Integration: VMware SRM integrates with other VMware technologies and architectures.

    • Non-disruptive testing: VMware SRM allows you to conduct tests during business hours without disruptions.

    • Reduced recovery time: By using automated orchestration workflows, VMware SRM helps to decrease recovery time to just minutes.

    • Automated failback: With automated failback, you can resume business operations as normal very quickly.

    • Extensibility for custom automation: With VMware SRM, you can use the Orchestrator plug-in to build custom automation workflows.

    • Automated network mappings: You can automatically map network settings across the two sites when creating a recovery plan.

    • Eliminate the need to re-configure IP addresses: With VMware SRM’s automated recovery of network and security settings, it is not necessary to e-configure IP addresses on recovered VMs via integration with NSX. Configurations are also reduced post-recovery by implementing security policies.

    • Centralized recovery plans: VMware SRM’s centralized recovery plans help you protect thousands of VM’s and also make it possible to eliminate manual runbooks.

    • Protect investments: With supported replication, VMware SRM helps protect investments and tailor RPOs.

    • Lower TCO: By using VMware SRM, you can lower your TCO and incur lower expenses for disaster recovery.
