We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I love linking/associating the requirements to a test case. That's where I get to know my requirement coverage, which helps a lot at a practical level. So, we use the traceability and visibility features a lot. This helps us to understand if there are any requirements not linked to any test case, thus not getting tested at all. That missing link is always very visible, which helps us to create our requirement traceability matrix and maintain it in a dynamic way. Even with changing requirements, we can keep on changing or updating the tool.""ALM Quality Center is a reliable, consolidated product.""The tools could be useful if we were utilizing them more effectively""Having used the tool before, I like the use of parameters, being able to do exports and reports of the data for monitoring of executions, and the defect management as well. I feel satisfaction in that area.""The most valuable feature of Micro Focus ALM Quality Center is its support for many automation technologies.""The test-case repository and linkage through to regression requirements will absolutely be a key component for us. We haven't got it yet, but when we've got an enterprise regression suite, that will be a key deliverable for them. We will be able to have all of the regression suite in one place, linked to the right requirements.""Templates: Allows us to standardize fields, workflows throughout hundreds of HPE ALM projects.""The most valuable Quality Center feature, I find, is the solution's integration with some of our automation tools. For us, the ability to capture and record and the ease of use from a user perspective, are all key."

"The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are all the test automation functionality. It is a full-scale automation tool.""This tool has test data management capability along with test management.""We are satisfied with the support of Tricentis.""The product enables codeless automation.""This solution is very easy to learn and any non-programmer or manual tester, with little experience in automation, can pick it up quite easily.""Tricentis Tosca is a really cool tool that you don't have to be technical to use it. Additionally, the solution is easy to use. The modules, libraries, and reusable are in an efficient way to update all the tests. I find it spot on with that. We also started using the design which we switched from Excel. The design was superior to Excel.""The solution has plenty of features compared to other solutions.""Software testing tool that has multiple features. It's good to use for SAP testing, and it helps reduce test execution time."

Cons
"Client-side ActiveX with patch upgrades""The support is not good and the documentation is not consistent.""I would rate it a 10 if it had the template functionality on the web side, had better interfaces between other applications, so that we didn't have dual data entry or have to set up our own migrations.""The performance could be faster.""Only Internet Explorer is supported. That is a big problem. They don't support Chrome and Firefox and so on.""I would like to be able to search easier, not just do SQL queries, being able to do free keyword searches on the data. That's valuable.""Micro Focus is an expensive tool.""Certain features are lousy. Those features can drag the whole server down. There are times that the complex SQL queries are not easy to do within this solution."

More OpenText ALM / Quality Center Cons →

"They need to improve on the reports after the execution of automation tests, since all the current organizations are looking for detailed graphical reports.""Tricentis Tosca's performance could be better. Sometimes when we are remapping or when it is loading it can take a lot of time. There are free solutions that have better performance in this area.""Their license management should be improved. One of our customers is a global customer. They want to use one licensed server and then split the licenses based on the different users of the different business units, but currently, there is only one license server that everybody can access. There is no control, and that's why sometimes congestion can happen.""Running the regression – if multiple lists are executed at once or if a list contains 200+ tests, it’s a pain to stop the execution.""There have been some setbacks because of upgrades. While Tosca has been around for a while, Tricentis has catered to smaller clients and I don't think they have done such a large, at-scale transition or transformation before or worked with a company like ours, which is doing an enterprise-wide transformation. When we go to their customer advisory-board meetings, upgrades have been an issue. They have been working a lot to make upgrades seamless.""The product needs to improve its pricing. It also needs to improve the infrastructure and DEX agent setup.""The document object model or some aspects of it has a bit of a learning curve.""With regard to areas of improvement, report customization should be easier. It would be good if Tosca could provide standard reports for at least 20 variants. At present, there are only three to four variants. The mobile engine needs to be faster and easier to use; it is a bit cumbersome. Also, the object identification in the mobile engine needs improvement. I would like to see easy-to-use customizations for reports in the next release."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I'd rate the pricing as 3/10 as it's very expensive."
  • "If you have more than five users, a concurrent licensing model should be considered."
  • "For pricing, I recommend to buy a bundled package. Check the HPE site for more details."
  • "The full ALM license lets you use the requirements tab, along with test automation and the Performance Center. You can also just buy the Quality Center edition (Manual testing only), or the Performance Center version (Performance Testing only)."
  • "HPE has one of the most rigid, inflexible, and super expensive license models."
  • "Sure, HP UFT is not free. But consider what you get for that cost: A stable product that is easy to use; the kitchen sink of technology stack support; decades of code (which in many cases actually is free); a version that is a stepping stone to an easier Selenium design; and a support base that is more that just the kindness of strangers."
  • "Seat and concurrent licensing models exist; the latter is recommended if a large number of different users will be utilizing the product."
  • "I feel that the licenses are expensive. "
