We performed a comparison between Oracle Database Appliance and Oracle Exadata based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Oracle Exadata is the winner in this comparison due to its scaling abilities. Oracle Database Appliance does come out on top in the Ease of Deployment category, however.
"The solution is stable. The product is scalable. The technical support is very helpful. The initial setup is straightforward. I consider the product a strong solution for our customers."
"The product’s valuable feature is its capability to pre-configure and pre-install the settings."
"The initial setup was straightforward and quick - I was able to configure everything within an hour."
"Oracle is a stable database."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the ability to combine all the data without the need for additional devices."
"We use the solution for our Java applications."
"If the database goes down on one of the servers, the load is automatically shifted to another server. You can troubleshoot the one that is down without affecting uptime."
"The most valuable feature is the performance."
"Complete management occurs from one single address instead of different servers."
"On-premises Exadata is just as stable as the cloud version. It's a very stable platform."
"What I like most about Oracle Exadata is its smart scan feature. I also like that it supports higher capacities and it's high-performing, so my company can use Oracle Exadata for massive databases."
"Oracle Exadata's performance is one of its best features. We very satisfied with it."
"The performance on the databases is good."
"Before using this machine, we took no less than two days to run a report. Now, we can do it within five hours. So, there is a lot of improvement."

"Even though the solution can handle a lot of data, it's just too expensive currently."
"The setup is a bit complex."
"The main thing would be to make ODA more affordable, to make it a more economical machine. Also, I would like to see virtualization, so you could implement all of your functions on one machine. Finally, improvement in the speed and performance would be good."
"Virtualization needs improvement. It's not easy to back up the virtual machines in the Oracle VM architecture. I would also like to see native support for Veeam Backup Software."
"Oracle could improve its capacity for built-in visualization."
"Oracle Database Appliance could improve by having better integration."
"I have found Oracle Exadata to be scalable. However, you have to purchase more hardware, such as memory."
"Oracle Exadata compatibility with the analytics could be better and the OBIEE could improve. Oracle BI to Exadata needs to be improved. Even if the full analytics practice for Oracle should be improved and when compared with other solutions it is weak."
"There is one aspect to Exadata that I dislike, and that's the inconsistency with other databases. When you try to get Exadata to function with another type of database like SQL, or others, there should be reliable and consistent operation. When this is improved on, we should start to see more applications growing the market."
"The performance could be improved."
"We have a little trepidation with the system as it does have a learning curve. Also changing to a binary logging format for us feels like retrograde motion, but sadly almost all Linux variants have moved in this direction."
"The technical support is in need of improvement."
"Sometimes it takes too long time to get help with technical issues."
"I liked Spark, but it was discontinued when Exadata L6 came back. I loved it, and I wish they would bring back Spark integration."
