We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's a very scalable solution and the performance is pretty good. The scalability, in my opinion, is the biggest advantage.""The WebCenter Content is its most valuable feature. After we update a document in WebCenter Content, it can be update automatically in our intranet.""You can move workloads in between sub-servers so that you don't overload a portion of the server.""A great solution for storing and searching large volumes of documents with easy access.""Integration within the solution is very good.""Oracle integrates well with other products to cover Big Data.""WebCenter's interface is very user-friendly."

"The solution is easy to use.""We can arrange all our documents on one platform and see the document's changes and edits.""No code and low code, scalable, and stable collaboration platform. Straightforward to set up. Its support system is good and offers fast issue resolution.""The workflow feature is valuable because it enables us to cascade responsibilities.""Helps with document collaboration and workflow.""It allows for simultaneous users to be on it.""Information is much more readily available.""The most valuable features are the Integrations, web site, and search."

Cons
"Does not seem to be totally compatible with Windows 10 as of our current version.""There are many document management systems that offer pretty much the same functionalities but at a lower price. The product as such is pretty good. However, the pricing is not comparable. They need to adjust their pricing to be more competitive on the market.""The solution should be offered in Persian. Right now, our version is in English, and there's a bit of a language barrier between the users and the product.""The speed of the backup should be enhanced.""This solution needs to support translation into the Arabic language.""I would like them to add more Web 2.0 features.""WebCenter requires a lot of design effort to upload content to our regular system.""Its functions need more stability."

More Oracle WebCenter Cons →

"The product could be improved in a lot of way. It is so frustrating to get things to work as advertised.""Integration needs to be more straightforward, particularly with Azure. SharePoint also needs a more comprehensive introductory course for users.""Emails stored now do not display metadata in native format.""I would like it to be more compliant with global regulations. There are certain features which could be included that currently are not there, such as compliance and record management capabilities.""The company also needs to make sure that their policies are dictating how information is stored and used, instead of letting SharePoint take control.""One issue is that when users mistakenly hide files or set permissions incorrectly, it can lead to files becoming inaccessible, requiring intervention from Microsoft support to resolve.""When you are trying to migrate from a different platform to SharePoint for file storage, the upload utility should be more flexible, taking more files and then updating you on the upload status of the files you are trying to transfer into SharePoint.""The product does not perform 100% when used outside of a Microsoft based browser, Chrome, Firefox, etc."

At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a round-up of a couple of the more well known platforms and compare their products to Drupal. In this roundup we will be comparing Jive, Sharepoint and Drupal Commons. Drupal Commons is a popular distribution created by Acquia to compete with some of these other proprietary platforms. There are many other options out there, commercial and otherwise, to compare with Drupal but I want to focus on Jive and Sharepoint for a couple of reasons. I chose Jive because it is one of the leading competitors in this space in respect to market share. Next, I chose Sharepoint because I have some history with Sharepoint. This experience dates back to when I built www.adhe.edu with Sharepoint 2007 a few years ago. I subsequently wrote this blog entry about my experience shortly after joining Mediacurrent. This roundup will also act as a refresher for those who read my original “Drupal vs. Sharepoint” blog. Yammer, which was recently bought by Microsoft and is the tool we currently use for office communication will also get some mentions throughout this article. As I went through and tested each of these tools I used three main criteria in my evaluation Cost Ability to Customize Overall features… Read more →
