Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes.""Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one.""The interface is very user-friendly.""The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want.""Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great.""The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration.""If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails.""The user interface is good."

"The solution is stable.""We were evaluating other products and getting confused between Commvault and Veritas NetBackup. The one reason that we started with Veritas NetBackup is the pricing of the license. There's no other reason from a technical perspective or even operation or capability of the two software. The main reason we chose Veritas NetBackup was that in our use case it is more cost-effective.""The solution has been very good over the years at fine-tuning various aspects of the product so that it is continuously made better.""It is a good solution. It covers most of the applications.""The tool's information transfer and patching up is easy. The solution offers protection from ransomware which is also a valuable feature.""Veritas NetBackup Automatic Image Replication and CloudCatalyst features allow me to replicate deduped backup images from one site to a remote site, as well as duplicating deduped images to the Cloud (i.e. AWS S3, etc.)""I like NetBackup's accelerator feature. You can take a full backup with incremental speed and integrate it with block tracking.""The backup and restore features are helpful."

Cons
"There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency.""I would like to see the option of cloud-based management.""The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement.""In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault.""The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find.""The initial setup is a little complex.""There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily.""The stability of the solution is poor."

More Quest NetVault Cons →

"Some of the hardware is out of support.""This solution would benefit from a more friendly, web-based interface.""I have been involved in upgrades. They have not been straightforward. Some of them have required us to make changes to our architecture and production environment.""System administrators would be more efficient in NetBackup if the number of tools and command lines was reduced.""Licensing costs are quite high.""I would like to have support enabled for cloud backups.""Like the other enterprise solutions, Veritas NetBackup isn't easy to implement. It's a little bit hard compared to other solutions like Data Protector for HPE. You have to struggle to learn a lot of features that Veritas NetBackup offers to customers.""It would be helpful, in future releases, if the solution could add WORM (Write Once Read Many) support right within the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
  • "When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
  • "The tool is expensive."
  • More Quest NetVault Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
  • "Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
  • "So far I can only say that the license structure could be looked at to be aligned as either capacity-based or traditional."
  • "If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
  • "The software and license are very expensive."
  • "Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
  • "Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
  • "The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."

    Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
