Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It blocks the vulnerabilities that can negatively impact us.""FortiGate's web and URL filtering are unlike any other firewall I've used. The functionality of URL filtering in those solutions is problematic because everything is encrypted, and firewalls can't break that encryption protocol. Fortinet has an SSL proxy, so the encryption is done before the packet ever leaves the FortiGate. The URL filter is definitely one of the most helpful features.""I only deal with it from a security analyst's point of view. I don't really get into the features of the actual FortiGate. From the security point of view, it works, and it does its job.""Their reliability and their policy of pre-shipping replacements when a unit has failed.""What's most important is the ease of use.""It's very good and very stable for businesses. It works very well.""We use the FortiGate Sandbox to detect zero-day vulnerabilities, such as anomalies or malware, that are unknown and have not yet been discovered.""The solution is scalable."

"The feature with SonicWall that I have found most valuable is that all the models have the same interface. We don't need to learn different interfaces in the smaller or bigger models.""It's been very easy to implement and deploy.""No negative impression of the scalability.""Technical support is good.""The installation is straightforward and took approximately 30 minutes.""The general feature is the antivirus policy, followed by the ransomware protection, and these are the features I was looking at.""We are very much happy with the support.""The most valuable feature is content filtering and app control."

More SonicWall TZ Pros →

"The initial setup is very simple.""It's easy to deploy and connect.""All the features are valuable, in my opinion, but for us the most important features are the network security, application control, and web server protection. Sophos Sandstorm is another good feature off the top of my head.""The solution offers more antimalware and antivirus feeds than others.""The solution is stable.""In this solution, the most valuable feature is that it's a security device. Maintaining security is very valuable for us. The other feature that we did not find in other products is that it works well with thin client environments.""Sophos XGS that's a good firewall. If you use the endpoint, then you have what Sophos calls synchronized security. That will mean that if one of the endpoints is affected, it will be automatically set in isolation.""Compared to other products, Sophos XGS is a user-friendly solution."

Cons
"In the future, I would like to see improvements made to cloud-based management.""The support from Fortinet FortiGate could improve. They are not easily accessible when we need them. They could improve their response time.""We would like to have the ability to disable some of the security functionalities.""WAN load-balancing could be a lot better at detecting when a link is poor or inconsistent, and not just flat out dead.""With the reports, you can see it, and you can get good feelings so upper management can go, "Oh, wow. That looks pretty." However, it's very basic.""Currently, without the additional reporting module, we only have access to basic reporting.""The customization could be improved. Cisco, for example, is much better at this. They need to work to be at least as good as they are.""Fortinet FortiGate is not very easy to use. The navigation could be improved to make it easier to use."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"The products' reporting can be improved.""The user support could be improved because you have to go outside to get that kind of support.""There is still room for improvement, and it's not advisable even if the organization has grown.""In an upcoming release, SonicWall could improve by adding cloud management for all devices for free or at a nominal cost. Currently, they have a cloud management platform but is not free. We have the MySonicWall portal for purchasing from them for software updates and renewals.""The lack of support is having me look into other solutions to replace SonicWALL.""SonicWall TZ can improve the UI application and when you create any net policies or any new policy, it will not sync or work properly.""Support for SonicWall TZ needs improvement, particularly the time it takes before you're able to speak to a support person, e.g. you have to wait for at least 30 minutes on the phone.""The solution's antivirus checking could be improved so that we can have a deeper inspection of the packets."

More SonicWall TZ Cons →

"I rate Sophos' support five out of 10. It's sometimes difficult to contact them, and finding a solution is not easy.""Its pricing could be better.""Having previously worked with the Astaro Security Gateway platform (now called Sophos UTM), I can attest that the configuration and dashboard for this older platform was easier to manage than that of both Sophos XG and XGS. If it were up to me, I would prefer to go back to the older SG dashboard.""The speed of report generation could be improved.""Areas for improvement in Sophos XGS include better balance when handling high availability configurations, smoother firmware upgrades without the need for turning off devices, and simplified configuration after firmware updates.""The solution could be easier to manage and configure.""Sophos XGS could improve by having a Network Access Control(NAC). This feature is a basic function in other firewalls and should be added, such as Palo Alto.""Sometimes, we haven't received proper support. They couldn't find the solutions that we required. One thing that we need is an NTP server facility. The Sophos XGS device does not have this capacity or this feature."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."

  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."

  • "Getting licenses in our country, Ghana, is not easy. Though, once we have them, adding them is quick (about a day)."
  • "SonicWall has authorized distributors in our country. They have about two or three distributors in the country, so it makes it a bit easier. • "The pricing was a factor for us, and we felt that the price was good."
  • "The product pricing is relatively good, compared to other products, including the licenses."
