Easy to use and expand with helpful support
Pros and Cons
  • "It has been quite stable so far."
  • "The only feature that is not available in our current version is web access."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for logistics, finance, asset management, and accounting.

What is most valuable?

I like that it is applicable to so many use cases.

It has been quite stable so far.

Technical support is helpful and responsive.

It's very scalable.

The product is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

I don't see room for improvement; we use a lot of specifics in our version.

The only feature that is not available in our current version is web access.

We'd like to have mobile access.

The solution isn't great for smaller companies since it does cost quite a bit for licensing. The price could be lower.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution since 2006.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is great. I'd rate it nine out of ten. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It offers good scalability. I'd rate the ability to expand eight out of ten. You can grow out f you need to.

We do not have plans to change solutions. While we're planning to switch to the new version of SAP S/4, we will stay with our ERP.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been good. They are always available to us if we need them. We are satisfied with the level of support we get.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use a different solution before jumping into this product. This was our first ERP

How was the initial setup?

I wasn't involved in the first deployment as it was in 2006. However, I was involved in the migration from the old version to the current version. That process was quite complex since we use a lot of specifics in our version. That made it difficult. We had to bring all the specific programs to the new version and also test all the specifics.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is another technical team that is responsible for the licenses and the number of users. I don't directly handle pricing.

What other advice do I have?

We're a customer and end-user.

I really recommend it to new clients as we have all the modules in one system, and it's scalable and easy to use.

Personally, I'm very satisfied with it. From the technical side to the functional side, we are satisfied. I would rate it nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Simple to use, but could benefit from having a bit more diversity added to it

What is most valuable?

The solution is simple to use.

What needs improvement?

Introducing diversity into this solution could be beneficial for discovering new and improved deployment processes. Once we acquire experience with one, we can then utilize the other as needed. The pricing of the solution could be improved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I will need to have more experience with the product to comment on this.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing could be improved.

What other advice do I have?

I rate SAP ERP a seven out of ten.

A solution designed to provide a stable and superior experience in terms of the functionalities it offers to its users
Pros and Cons
  • "It is a stable solution...Our company has experienced a return on investment using the solution."
  • "Presently, the solution's interface is not intuitive."

What needs improvement?

It is easy to use for someone only if they are trained and have the skills to use it. For those having no experience with the solution, it's almost impossible for them to use it. There is a need and requirement for some training to be provided to those planning to use the solution. Presently, the solution's interface is not intuitive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with SAP ERP for ten years. I am currently working on SAP ERP EHP 7. I am a customer of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Around 200 people in my company work with the solution.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is fine. They do help users to sort out the issues related to the solution. I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.

The last time we faced an issue using the solution, it took the technical support team a while to resolve it, but I think it is because it was not on a production system but on a test system to which they give low priority. However, I felt the technical support team should have provided me with the appropriate assistance even though the product was used in a test environment. Also, I always try to avoid seeking help from the technical support team as I prefer looking for documentation, or I seek support from my peers.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I worked with a product from Microsoft. I wouldn't say that Microsoft's product was better than SAP ERP. However, I would say that Microsoft's product had more capacity, processes, and functionalities than SAP ERP, which was meant to support small businesses. But, SAP ERP has much more specialized features suitable for bigger industries.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's deployment process was easy for me since I have experience in deploying it. However, it may not be straightforward for someone else. Since it is not a PnP device and there are so many moving parts, there is a high chance of the person involved in its deployment process making a mistake. But, over time, one gets to know and learn what to do when something happens. Even though issues are there in the solution, I am able to use it after fixing it.

I was not a part of one of the latest instances involving the implementation process of the solution, but I have carried out the implementation process in many other places. So based on my experience, the implementation process takes about six months.

What was our ROI?

Our company has experienced a return on investment using the solution. Some people in my company look into the areas related to the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is based on the license per user, which I think makes the solution a bit costly, especially for Africa and Kenya. The price for the solution is the same for everybody, so they are able to generate the same revenue from companies in Europe. Basically, the prices of the solution are high, and we don't have that much revenue. We have to choose a mix of licenses for SAP ERP, so we can't choose just one type of license. Even though the mix of licenses has both expensive and cheap ones, one has to buy the expensive ones since there is a minimum ratio to be considered while purchasing their licenses. Additionally, our company had to pay 22% of the amount for the solution's licenses for maintenance and support.

What other advice do I have?

We decided to move to SAP S/4HANA from SAP ERP since we wanted an upgrade, and it had to be done someday. Also, we felt that SAP ERP will get discontinued at some point.

Since it is a superior product in terms of its functionalities to my company, I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten.

Seamless integration, plenty of features, but support could improve
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of SAP ERP is the integration. It can be seamlessly integrated across the board."
  • "The user interface can be more intuitive and user-friendly by having it be more menu-driven, this would be a large benefit."

What is our primary use case?

We use SAP ERP for running the entire business enterprise. Most large companies run an ERP for their supply chains. Starting from taking orders all the processes through to delivery, such as finance.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of SAP ERP is the integration. It can be seamlessly integrated across the board.

What needs improvement?

The user interface can be more intuitive and user-friendly by having it be more menu-driven, this would be a large benefit.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP ERP for approximately 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

SAP ERP is reliable and stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

There are different levels of support, with some requiring additional fees. I am not happy with any of the support I have received from SAP ERP.

How was the initial setup?

The initial implementation is very complex. It is a very large complex system.

What about the implementation team?

SAP ERP is a complex system, it takes a lot of people to maintain it. Depending on many factors of the implementation environment would determine the number of required maintenance or support staff. However, at least eight to ten people are the minimum required only to maintain and support SAP ERP. This number does not include the business or functional side of the operation of the solution, this number is only for the infrastructure side.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution can cost approximately $1 million a year for maintenance for a small-size company and can grow from there. Approximately $1 million is needed for a good-size company.

What other advice do I have?

SAP ERP is one of the best solutions. It's complex, but it can do a lot of things. If you are considering implementing SAP ERP, make sure you have a business process straight before you implement such a large solution. Streamline your business process and try to achieve standardization, instead of trying to customize things, use industry standards.

I rate SAP ERP a seven out of ten.

I rate the support of SAP ERP a nine out of ten.

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of SAP ERP is complex. However, if you have a good team it can be easier.

The deployment time can depend on the size of the company.

What was our ROI?

I have received a return on investment using SAP ERP.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of SAP ERP is high, but it is worth the money. The maintenance and support can be expensive. There should be a different price model for businesses that are not as large to be able to afford it.

If the price of the solution was less it would be able to reach more of my customer.

I rate the price of SAP ERP a three out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I rate SAP ERP a nine out of ten.

A good solution for standardizing across processes but customizations are expensive
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution can easily be standardized across processes."
  • "Customizations are a bit expensive."

What is our primary use case?

Our company uses the solution within our European branch for ERP functionality such as configurations for sales, purchases, and production.

We have 15,000 users across various departments including IT, sales, and business development. We are planning to upgrade to the newest version soon.

What is most valuable?

The solution can easily be standardized across processes.

What needs improvement?

Customizations are a bit expensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for fourteen years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution's stability is perfect across our 15,000 users.

Any stability issues are likely caused by manual configurations that do not have correct master data to run properly.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is not very good so I rate it a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Infor but switched because we needed a global solution.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is difficult so implementation consultants are needed.

What about the implementation team?

We utilized consultants for our first implementation and it took eighteen months. Our internal team included ten IT specialists and ten business development staff.

Typical rollouts include a team of 20-30 people.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive so I rate cost a five out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

To save costs, use the standard solution with few customizations and ensure your data is good quality.

I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

A stable and scalable solution that provides a high level of integration
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution provides a high level of integration."
  • "The production system must be upgraded."

What is our primary use case?

We use the FI, CO, SD, PP, and MM modules. We also use GTS.

What is most valuable?

The solution provides a high level of integration. In my previous company, we were working with Oracle, and there were a lot of reconciliation issues. We do not have such issues in SAP because everything is integrated. GTS provides a lot of value.

What needs improvement?

The production system must be upgraded. The PP and APO modules need improvement. PP has not been upgraded much, and we look forward to a new one. We do not have extended warehouse management. We are in the process of setting up a new site for a new factory, and we need the extended warehouse management functionality.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution since 1985.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We do not have issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool provides the scalability we need. We have around 250 users.

How are customer service and support?

We use a third-party vendor for technical support. The support is good. It's not always easy to get the right counterparts immediately. Sometimes, there’s a waiting period because people are busy.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We want to move to S/4HANA to take advantage of the improvements in finance. New GL provides much functionality for profit analysis, P&L, and all kinds of automation. Our S/4HANA conversion plan has a schedule of 15 months from start to finish.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment is quite complex. The preparation, setting up of all the systems, and the tests are complex. We need a lot of involvement from the key users. The maintenance of the product is easy if we have the right people for the modules. We work with third-party providers. The product works fine if they know what they are doing and we have the right links inside and out. We also need knowledgeable key users in the departments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

SAP is quite expensive. It's a premium system. The other ERP systems are either similarly priced or cheaper. We pay a quarterly license fee for the product.

What other advice do I have?

We have a registered number at SAP for our SAP system. We are end users. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Has specific codes that can help to access certain functions
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has made the most significant impact on our human resources function, specifically in HR operations and HR analytics. One feature of SAP ERP that I found most valuable is its use of codes for accessing specific functions."
  • "The product can be a little slow when dealing with thousands of employee data."

What is our primary use case?

We use the tool's HCM modules for human resources. If I want to see the employee master data, I can view or edit it. I can also use it to check the time and leave management modules to see how many employees are taking leave and their working hours. These are the main functions I've been using it for in day-to-day business operations.

What is most valuable?

The solution has made the most significant impact on our human resources function, specifically in HR operations and HR analytics. One feature of SAP ERP that I found most valuable is its use of codes for accessing specific functions.

For instance, using codes to view employee master data was helpful. The processing time was lengthy when dealing with a large amount of employee data. I believe SAP ERP could be faster, especially considering that my laptop's RAM is relatively low despite having a good processor. This delay in processing becomes particularly noticeable when dealing with thousands of employee records.

The tool's multi-integration system capability is good. The P30 module, which consists of employee master data, is connected to all the other modules.

The benefits of using SAP ERP are significant. All employee data is centralized at the backend, ensuring easy access and management. One of the key advantages is real-time updates. For example, changes made in the master data automatically reflect across all other HR modules, such as attendance, learning and development, training, and performance appraisal. This integration eliminates the need for manual updates and reduces the risk of data duplication or loss.

What needs improvement?

The product can be a little slow when dealing with thousands of employee data.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, the tool is quite stable. It works in uncertain environments and functions well on office Wi-Fi and other Wi-Fi networks. I can generate reports, download them, and save them in a self-formatted manner. This is quite helpful as it's compatible with Microsoft tools like Microsoft Teams and OneDrive, making it easy to share the reports.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable. My company has around 2,000 employees.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't contacted technical support yet.

How was the initial setup?

The tool is easy to deploy.

What other advice do I have?

I rate SAP ERP a nine out of ten. I would advise individuals looking into implementing it to review the help manual available thoroughly. Familiarizing oneself with the info types within SAP ERP is crucial. For instance, understanding codes like "PA30" for viewing employee master data can be immensely helpful.
