Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"First and foremost, it enables the customer to deploy high availability connections. This kind of solution enables them to deploy these HA connections for policies mostly automatically. It's a more automated approach than with other vendors.""We had several clients that were paying $7,500 a month for an MPLS line for one single 10 megabit circuit and we were able to take that from $7,500 a month down to $500 a month for two 10 megabits circuits that added redundancy where before they did not have redundancy and it gave them a much better throughput.""Silver Peak Unity EdgeConnect has high availability.""The file and data reduction capabilities are very good. Without it, we have a great deal of network congestion.""The platform is valuable for bandwidth reduction.""I really love the auto-tunnel creation feature.""The tool's most valuable feature is bandwidth optimization.""The solution includes features for SD-WAN and WAN such as batch conditioning and optimization."

"From the main controller, we can administer the customer's devices, QoS, network, and traffic. We can monitor it and we can change and create policies as well as upgrade the software. We can totally control a customer's network from one site, the Prisma SD-WAN portal.""The gateway is available on the cloud which allows you access from anywhere and still connects to your home gateway.""Prisma supports all of the applications we're currently using.""It is flexible to use the internet connection via local breakouts without going to data centers.""I like that the integration with Palo Alto is easy.""Prisma SD-WAN is intuitive. We have a better idea of the different tools we can use and jump between the menus quickly.""If the MPLS goes down, there is a really smooth transition for a branch site to take traffic over the Internet. It will advertise the routes of that site in a jiffy.""The product's initial setup phase is straightforward."

Cons
"In future releases, I would like to see security features, so Aruba might need some firewalls, like other vendors.""Aruba EdgeConnect SD-WAN Platform’s stability and technical features need improvement.""If compared with Cisco, then Aruba's pricing is very aggressive.""We would like to have better features for path selection. For example, if we know the network is going to go down then we would like to set up an alternate route for data packets in real-time.""They have to implement more security with it. The security, mainly their firewall functions, have to be included in the firewall features.""Aruba EdgeConnect SD-WAN Platform needs to improve integrations with other vendors.""More technical sessions should be offered for deploying the solution.""Reporting is something that they can improve on."

"The tool needs to work on price and complexity.""I would also like to see improvement in the product training for customers. Palo Alto has not initiated very much training but they have to do so because this is a new product. If you have experience in a legacy environment, and you are moving to Prisma SD-WAN, you don't have a training framework. That is one of the disadvantages.""Sometimes, during the product's initial setup phase, bypass pair or couple ports don't come up normally, and it requires an hour and a half to troubleshoot to reset the box from Prisma SD-WAN to factory default.""Prisma SD-WAN should provide more flexibility and scalability on the hardware.""Customer support is our biggest pain point. The quality of support has gone down a little since we initially deployed this product. I don't know if this is due to turnover at Palo Alto or a lack of training. It is now taking one or two days to get an initial response that says, "Hey, we've looked into this, can you pull this data for us?" In the past, we'd immediately get a response.""There are two parallel things that we want Palo Alto to work on. First, customers want a unified appliance that does the work of all firewalls in addition to SD-WAN. Second, the cloud presence should be completely automated. If I purchase the SASE architecture, I shouldn't worry about deployments in Prisma Access or on Prisma SD-WAN. It should be deployed in one go.""I'd like to see them move more towards CASB.""Prisma SD-WAN's technical support should be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "You have to negotiate when it comes to pricing and licensing."
  • "You typically will license the hardware and you license the software to access the hardware capabilities. The price will range anywhere from a hundred to $300 a month. There are no additional costs."
  • "The licensing fees depend on the bandwidth. As an example of what we charge our customers, for 100MB without Boost, the price is approximately $2,000. That includes the licensing and the unit."
  • "The pricing for this product is good."
  • "The license could improve for Silver Peak VX."
  • "The price of Silver Peak VX is expensive compared to competitors. There are licenses, renewals, and support that need to be paid."
  • "There is an annual license required to use Silver Peak Unity EdgeConnect."
  • "The license for Silver Peak Unity EdgeConnect is paid annually."

  • "This solution stood out because it cost considerably less than the other SD-WAN solutions out there from Cisco."
  • "If you're already invested in a Palo Alto product, it would be logical to use this solution. If not, there might be some other solutions that are more viable in terms of pricing."
  • "On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
